Ice Cream Social" at the revolving Garden Grill restaurant

No. It is only vanilla. We asked as my DD only likes chocolate too. We got her the ice cream anyway and she liked it.

Tried to walk in in Feb., 2001 with no luck. Made 3:00 ps in 2002 and had to wait quite a bit to get in and had to split our group of 8 into two groups (not seated anywhere near each other), I guess it's very popular! We were on the outskirts of the restaurant in a booth. Saw characters very briefly and only once. In fact we had paid and were on our way out the door before Mickey ever came (I had to ask the CM to round him up for us).
I have made ps for 3:00 again this Oct. and hope to have a better experience. The ice cream was very, very good. My dd got water and it came in a very nice Epcot cup w/ lid & straw that we were able to take with us.

Sure they have chocolate since my 5 yo grandson was covered in it by the time we left. We had a great time and took so many pictures with the characters. It is the best buy by far in the whole of WDW. 3 thumbs up for the Ice cream Social!

Really? I wonder if this was changed. We went this past May and was told they only had vanilla ice cream. DD raised a fit as her fav is chocolate. She ended up eating it anyway as it came with a ton of chocolate syrup.

Maybe you're right. I just know my grandson was covered with chocolate something.

I had requested ice cream sweetened with Aspertame (Nutrasweet ) instead of the regualr unsweetened which uses Manitol ( a laxative agent for some). The ice cream parlor in the MK has this ice cream so I requested it. Well, to make a long story short the chef came out with an unsweetend cheese cake for me that was delicious and did not make me ill. I wonder if you tell them in advance your kids hate vanilla if they will get chocolate for you? They try to honor special requests.

KatieKatie16, I read or heard they don't take walk-ins, only PS's because they have to prepare and freeze the sundaes the day before.

I just made our reservations for our trip in November and while they asked all the pertinent information and gave me a confirmation #, they didn't take a deposit on a credit card.

Guess I won't complain. This will make it easier to cancel if I need to.

I will definitely call ahead...you think I should call the Garden Grill that morning or the day before?? Thanks again.

We went just before the holiday season (2002) and the Ice Cream Social was not available because they set up early for the Candelight Processional Dinner. We were very disappointed because my husband lives for ice cream...

You can reservations for this 90 days prior to arrival, I believe. You don't have to wait til you get there. I'll double check on that and repost if I'm wrong.

I have already made our PS for the ice cream social. I was just wondering if I should call the day before to request chocolate sundaes for my picky boys!

Let them know when you make the ressies. It takes them time to accomodate guests. Priority seating people will give you the direct line into the restaurant after you make ressie. Always call restaurant for special requests since their chefs do all the ordering for their establishments. The more lead time the better.

Thank you, that's what I'll do!! :D

How much time do you have for the social? I see in a previous post that the times are 3:00, 3:10 & 3:20. Does this mean we only have 10 minutes?

This sounds real interesting for a break during the day.

I called 407-WDW-DINE to find out if they offer soy ice cream because my oldest DD can't have any dairy. The lady there wasn't sure and referred me directly to the Garden Grille. They do have soy ice cream available but you have to let them know when you make your PS because it's not normally available. She then said to reconfirm with them (Garden Grille) about 2 days before just to be sure that they get it right. Perhaps they make the same accomodation for those who want chocolate ice cream?

Does everyone in your party have to order the ice cream? Kids and DH love it, mom does not. Although I'm sure if I had to order one, DH would have no problem polishing it off!;)

We have done this twice now. The first time was in April 2002 and the place was practically desserted. I was able to get my dad seated with us, even though I had only made PS for four. The characters were wonderful, spending lots of time with our two kids.
This time, Monday Aug. 18th, I had PS for ten. The restaurant was very busy. Even though I had PS for ten, they seated us at two tables with enough chairs for eight. Our server was very short with us when taking our orders. We had to go find two extra chairs ourselves. The ice cream was just as good as we had remembered it being, and our kids enjoyed it immensely. The characters all came around to our tables, but didn't spend as much time as they had last year.
I had requested the re-hitching ceremony when I made the PS and reminded the hostess at check-in.
A server came around and asked who was celebrating an anniversary (I had been told you didn't have to be celebrating your anniversary  ), I stood up, but my husband looked very confused. The server asked how long we had been married, what two words we had said to each other ten years ago. Then she said some vows and had us kiss to the count of 100.
It wasn't anything like I had read it was supposed to be, no characters present, no certificate, no cake. I was a little disappointed.
We will probably do it again next year though, because the kids really enjoy it. Hopefully it won't be so busy.

Ugh, sorry that happened to you :(
I'm looking forward to the rehitching we'll do in Oct, but if that's what's going on now I'm just going to cancel it.

Nobody puts you out. We sat for a long time and since it wasn't crowded ( March 7 ) my granson saw the charactrers a few times.

As far as other choices rather than ice cream. I had sugar free cheesecake since I couldn't eat the type of sugarfree ice cream they had ( it has laxative effect on me). I would call the PS people who will put you through to the Garden Grill restaurant and make sure they know you "can't" eat ice cream and you would perfer something else ( fruit, cake etc).
