One of the things I've missed about going to DVC HH is not being able to ride your bike to get some ice cream.....Doing some searching, I think I've discovered either a new place or something I just have never heard about. It's called: Bruster's Real Ice Cream and it's supposed to be: at The Plaza at Shelter Cove, behind Guiseppi's.

Has anyone been there yet? Any good? We usually go (via car) to that place on Pope Avenue for an ice cream fix, but this would mean almost daily visits if we can ride our bikes....ouch the calories!

where did you hear this about Brewster's. I was going to make contact with Brewsters about doing that same thing. I have always thought that Shelter Cove could use some quality Ice Creame. Brewsters is pretty good. They have lots of fresh flavors and mixed in flavors. It is still old fashion style. Not like Cold Stone if that helps. It also wont cost a weeks pay like Cold Stone. I guess like normal I am a Day Late And A Dollar Short:(

I did not see it in April. I hope it will be finished in Sep.
We have never really liked that one in Wexford as that was just Pet or Mellowbuttercup brand. Marleys was ok, and I just have not made it to Rita's. It will be very nice to have a Brewster just a Bike ride away.

Brusters is awesome! Definitely make time to go...you won't be disappointed. Wonderful home made ice cream with lots of interesting flavors. My favorite is Almond Joy (though I think they had to change the name). Brusters shops are all over the place here. $1.90 for a giant scoop in a waffle cone (I think the waffle in included in that price). If you are into sherbet or sorbet...definitely try the grapefruit sherbet...it's out of this world...and I don't even like grapefruit!

They have a lot of cute specials:
Kids under a certain height (40") get a free mini cone. Bring your dog for a free doggie sundae (vanilla with a dog treat).
On Thursdays, bring your own banana and get 1/2 off a banana split!
25 Cents off any purchase for seniors

On a certain weekend every year:
Just roll out of bed and wear your pajamas to your local Bruster's, and we'll reward your sense of adventure with a FREE single scoop waffle cone! PJ weekend only comes once a year, so don't miss your chance to get in on the fun!

You asked where did I hear about Bruster's...I read about here:

Here is the text from that link:

Your description of it sounds wonderful. I did check the web site and I can see I'm going to have to make SEVERAL visits while we are there.

Thanks,

David

Wow! Thanks for the info. We also love biking to get ice cream at HH. Unfortunately, last time we were there, the weather was too cold to even think about ice cream. However, I noticed that there was an ice cream place in the mall near Piggly Wiggly, nice biking distance. Also, there's an ice cream place at the outdoor mall, I forget the name of it, but you go out the to the main road, 278, take a right, then go around the rotary and down to a big mall. Any other places?

I wonder how long Brewsters has been there. I can't beleive that in the six years of going to HHI and searching for good Icecream I have missed our favorite place right under our nose!

We were just there in April/May and did not see it. I guess if it is not in that big dinning guide you get, then it goes un-noticed.

Once in a blue moon they have a vanilla mix with Nesltle Crunch. THat is my favorite, but they hardly ever have it.

We just returned from HH and stopped at Brusters there the other night. We have a Brusters here at home and I was so glad to see one at HH, and so close to the resort. YUM!

The other ice cream store that we visitied and liked was at Coligny Square. It is an outdoor shopping center. To get to it, take a left leaving the island and go to the rotary. Go around the rotary onto Hope Ave and go to the next rotary. Go 3/4's of the way around the second rotary and the shopping center is on your left. It was a great little ice cream store. Lots of flavors and they had an outdoor entertainer for kids on Saturday night.

No one has mentioned the BEST ice cream on the island yet! HILTON HEAD ICE CREAM!! It's on New Orleans Road, down near Sea Pines Circle.

The ice cream is made fresh daily, and they have been written up in Southern Living magazine several times. Many of the nicer restaurants on the island also serve their ice cream. The Clintons used to send the Secret Service :smooth: :smooth: there to bring back carryout when they came to Hilton Head for the Renaissance weekend! (Not meant to be a political statement -- don't let it influence you as to whether or not to try the ice cream! )

In my opinion Brusters and HH ice cream is about the same. We go to HH ice cream b/c we always go to Brusters at home. Another great place is if you go to the outlet malls. The Tanger outlet 2 which has Nike and GAP also has a great ice cream place. It's homemade and so good.

Thanks for the link to the Island Packet. Great article. Man..so so much eating to look forward to :). Can't wait till the 10th.
