Hey George! Are you familiar with the points system? I got all 6's in French, Maths, Film and English, a 5 in Biology and a 7 in Geography

and one extra point out of 3 (very annoyed about that but oh well) so a total of 37 out of a possible 45. So am thrilled! Only needed to get 34 to get onto my course at Uni. How have you been? Are you at University?
Hi there, after googling the AP, no they are very different. It's complicated to explain, but the IB diploma is a course that takes two years though I think in the USA schools that run the IB do a Middle Years programme (which prepares you for the actual diploma) which spread over freshman and sophmore year, so sometimes US students say it is a 4 year course. You do 6 subjects, 3 at a more in depth level, known as Higher Level and 3 at a less in depth level, ie less class time, known as Standard Level. You have to take English, a foreign Language, a maths course, a humanities, a creative/another humanities course and a science based subject. You do coursework for each subject and take exams at the end of the second year, and this will give you a grade out of 7 for each subject.
You also have to do an Extended Essay (a 4000 word essay) on a title of your choice in one of your subjects, study Theory of Knowledge (kinda like really brief philosophy, on how humans learn etc) and give presentations/write an essay about it. You also have to do 50 hours of physical activity, 50 hours of 'service' (volunteering etc) and 50 hours of creativity. Overall you get a point score out of 45. Some people from my school have been given college offers from top US universities, unconditionally, which means they got a place as soon as they applied. Whilst others who applied to US Universities had to sit standardised college entry exams. However, I'm told not all US Universities recognise the diploma.
^ Long explanation haha, but basically, it seems the AP is scored out of 1-5? IB is 1-7 and lots of other random stuff and very different. Though by the looks of it, the UK don't really do anything like AP, so perhaps my understanding isn't great.
