IASW & Gas Prices

I just thought there was a correlation between IASW and gas prices. Since gas prices are supposed to reach $8 by August, I don't think IASW needs to deepen the flumes for the boats, everyone will be riding bikes to work or taking the bus (requiring more physical activity). Heck, I know I am! Maybe we'll become more European in that sense.

I'm buying a bike for when I transfer to CSUF in the spring. I'll be riding my bike to and from my dorms and possibly around Fullerton/Anaheim area using the bus.
Hooray for losing weight!

LOL surely you jest..in all reality, maybe the park will be very thin with people and we can get on Splash and Space a little quicker towards Christmas time but yeah, $8/gal and we may not have a DLR to visit

well at $8 a gallon for our trip would kill us see we are driving 1800 miles at 25 mpg. thats 72 gallons of fuel. i live in eugene oregon and bikes are common place here.

ya weve been talking about getting bikes
3 one for my son and two for us. I dont like to walk but i could bike for miles we could go to the park alot more to..ya thats a good idea
we dont drive and with these gas prices im seeing no reason to push for eathier of us to get our licence or a car..hell bikes would be cheaper and when we go to the store 2big times a month we go with his parents so..

Us too! we are supposed to be driving to DL in August but at $8 a gallon we might have to figure something else out.

We're driving down on the 18th of this month, so we would avoid anything like that. I think $5 per gallon is possible, but I'm doubting $8 per gallon. And it would be a lot more difficult for everyone to bike here in the states. We are a lot more spread out than Europe is! My 20 month old has only been walking for 4 months. He is just not up to a 5 mile bike ride somewhere. Add in my hyper 4.5 year old who runs off at the drop of a hat, and my very girly dd, and we are not biking anywhere right now. I could see my big kids biking very short distances with me, but not the baby. Of course, the only bike I have is 24 years old. I'm not sure it has suitable tires, even.

It's just part of American culture to have a "Griswold family vacation to Wally World"!

Fabulous idea!

We actually became more European in that sense, last year, when we moved to a downtown area. Well, just outside of downtown. Hubby now takes transit to the train, and takes the commuter train to work. My son and I take walks to the close-by grocery store, and we've actually taken the bus to the less expensive store for a smaller shopping trip (I felt so ecologically sound that day).

We just moved from an apartment building to a condo building across the street, and ended up moving quite a bit of our stuff by hand, walking. And between walking at Disneyland for 5 days and walking half of our stuff across the street, both hubby and I have lost weight! It's pretty cool!


When I first opened the thread, though, I thought you were putting a correlation between IASW being closed for a year and the gas prices being so high. And I was going to agree. With IASW closed for so long, no one can see that we're all one world and it's small, and it's time that we care and share. So we've become even more combative, and somehow that's raised gas prices.

Can you tell I love, and have always loved, IASW?

I personally doubt it will get to $8/gallon...at least where I live. Here it's been holding steady at $3.98 for about four weeks now. Although I'd love to see it go down, I'm glad it's at least not going up! I suspect--and, again, this is just for where I live--it will stay where it is, and then go down just a bit at the end of the summer. I don't ever see it down to where it was even a year ago, though.

Considering it just jumped 10 cents overnight in my area, I think anything is possible. I don't see how eventually it won't reach that point, Gas prices haven't gone done in I don't know how long. It just keeps rising and rising and rising. Heck, as long as I don't have to pay what europeans pay, I'm happy!

It doesn't really work that way. There are a lot of economic models out there that suggest the opposite. They need to attract customers, not drive them away.

When we filled up the rental car in Anaheim yesterday, it was I believe $4.29? Think it was around $60 for a small Toyota car, that was NOT on empty! Flying wasn't cheap, but I was glad we flew. All that money for gas, that long 10 hour drive. No way! We'll fly from now on.

Here at home I got gas today in Northern Nevada for $3.99. It was $3.87 when we left for DL a week ago!

If it gets to $8 a gallon I doubt there will be many people that can afford vacations period!

That is the highest I have seen mentioned on here so far, but, then I came back on. Went to Valero yesterday, at 4.46 a gallon, I put in $30 and got back nothing. ( I live the SF bay area, where it costs 1/2 $million to own a hole in the ground.)

Seriously, if the prices of gas and other important staples keep going up, It will be tough! This is the first year I have not felt really great about our hotel prices and am considering breaking my week up into a cheaper hotel for 2 of the 6 days I have never done that before, but we have always gotten great rates--this year, not so great!
