WTH do they put in that stuff...rocks? I just switched my dogs to the chunks with gravy kind of canned IAMs food. I know we're getting close to lunch hour, so I hate to say this, but 6 hours later, at the same time, both dogs....well, let's just say they put it back. ;) It came back looking the same as it did 6 hours earlier, just more...solid. Like rocks.

That stuff was a little more expensive so I foolishly thought it would be better for them. I tossed it and proceeded to do a homemade concoction of rice, fat-free broth, and boiled chicken. I'm sticking with that I think.

My vet told me once that IAM's had the highest concentration of fat of the dog foods out there. I could tell on mine. They gained weight and were more lethargic.

I put 'em on Timberwolf and they've been fine since.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled with Iams. Our oldest dog gets really gassy when we feed it to her. For cheap grocery store food in a pinch, we've found that plain old Dog Chow is the best. The last time my DH went shopping on his own, he came home with a huge bag of the Iams and I was ticked. We had some poopy stinky dogs until it ran out.

I like Nutro foods. I know there are better ones out there, but Nutro is a decent food!

I agree about Nutro - that is their dry food and they do so well with it. But I'm trying to get them to eat at regular times (I had a whole other thread about that), so I mix in something appealing, like canned food, so they gobble it all up at once.

From "Look Who's Talking Now"

James-What are you going to name him?
Mikey-Rocks!
James-Why Rocks?
Mikey-Because that's what he left in the backseat~!

:lmao:

another test of quality is:

If they sell it in food stores it is no good. and that is almost 100% true

Mikeeee

Just bumping this up to thank damo for the link. I was pretty appalled by the ratings of foods I thought were "good." They were better than the "Ol Roy" we took our dog off when we adopted him, but still pretty much junk. So I went to the feed store and brought home some Taste of the Wild for my dog and my cats. We have some happy animals around here today!

Although now I think I'll have to stop by the vet's office, because I think I need some more advice. If my dog isn't eating fluff and filler, he probably doesn't need as much food anymore. I need to find out how much he should be getting.
