I disagree. I don't think they have as long as everyone things to figure this out. Let's face it, the old age home is a cool idea, but for many of us, by 2042 and MUCH earlier, the DVC memberships will be in the hands of our children and their children.
Believe it or not, Disney needs to keep DVC members and their families happy and coming back year after year. It is to their advantage to keep DVC going, and to continue selling/reselling. Build once, sell it many times. As soon as they let the price slip (notice they haven't so far), new DVC memberships will plummet. New members will start to get shaky about buying in when a price drop occurs, even to the newer properties. They financially can't let this happen.
My guess is, at first, they will allow (for a price of course) currect DVC members to extend the 2042 membership to 2054 and add family members to the contract. Once they pull that off, they can sell/resell the older resorts at the then going premium price until 2054 (or whatever it is).
By putting dates on the membership, they have given us (and our families) a way out of the timeshare. They don't want us out! They want to continue to sell/resell, and collect dues to refurbish to keep the $$s coming in. The Contemporary and Poly are over 30 years old, what are they doing to them now? Refurbishing. For DVC, we get to pay for the refurbishing with our dues.
Once the buy in price of DVC starts to drop, they are in a loosing battle. I don't think they will put themselves in this position.
