I entered a contest to win one of six ipads. I was shocked when I won. I know nothing about the ipad at all. Will I need to buy certain accessory etc. What are the pros and cons. So far everyone is telling me that I will love it. It will be shipped in two to four weeks.

I'm on mine right now and I love it! I've only had mine for a month so I haven't bought any accessories for it yet, except a screen protecter d!

Cons: My DH wants it all the time, I hate sharing it!:rotfl:

Congratulations and enjoy it!

I've heard they are great, probably want to buy an otterbox or something.

My husband (not typically tech savvy) is on his every evening. On the couch, like a potato. He loves it.

I am jealous.

Pros: love iBooks app (never thought I'd be an e-reader person but it's great being able to read in bed at night without a light); am addicted to words with friends; easier to get to the net than my laptop

Cons: No USB port; no flash player

Buy a case and screen protector and you are set!

Thanks for asking this question. I got one for Christmas and I am not sure what to do with it. I sit in front of a computer all day, I have a laptop at home, an iphone & a nook. I feel like the iPad is redundant but it was a gift. I am driving DH crazy because it just sits there.

I need to get a case for it. I saw one that has a keyboard attached to it. Does that work better then the touch screen? I think I saw a USB adaptor in the Apple store.

Screen protector and some sort of case or sleeve for it are a must to protect it.

Otherwise, I think they are decent, I don't like that it's as proprietary as it is (typical Apple), doesn't have user replaceable items (ie. battery), media slot (expansion slot), USB or a camera. The USB is probably the most annoying to me on several levels, first for transferring/accessing files, USB is great. Second is that Apple uses a proprietary connection for both the iPhone and iPad to charge/data transfer, when USB would have been more than acceptable for the purpose, it would have made getting cables cheaper, charging more versatile, etc.

The camera is rumored to be solved in the iPad 2, the other items, probably will never be addressed.

I gave my wife one... three things it needs, IMO.

Screen protector, case, capacitive touch stylus. I got her all those, plus a car charger.

DH won and ipad at work about 9 months ago and we both like it well enough

Pros: Kindle app is great to read on, especially since it is backlit so you can read in the dark. We love watching netflix movies in bed as we do not have a tv upstairs. I like being able to check something really quick in my email when traveling without having to boot up the computer (when we have Wifi access that is), it is also very portable and easy to travel with.

Cons: we only have the Wifi version so I hate not being able to use it in the car or any other place that does not have Wifi (i.e. our DVC room so we will bring a router next time). I dislike that it is very difficult to see in sunlight even with the settings changed. I dislike how heavy it is for reading for an extended period of time (I read on the metro on the way to work so I find that the kindle is so much nicer with the changes in light as we go in and out of tunnels, and it is also much lighter so I can stand with it and hold the kindle in one had without getting tired.)

Overall we like it for certain situations and prefer other devices for other situations, we have a screen protector and a case and have not wanted any other accessories.

Congradulations on winning one.

My dh gave me one last November for Christmas. He gave himself a new tv.

Anyways, it does not support "Flash", so some programs, like my main e-mail does not open. I have to forward important e-mails to my gmail account or msn account.

I don't have the external keyboard and when I use it to post on the DIS, I have tons of typo errors, and you know how DIS members like to point that little gem out.

I'm getting better at using it. Right now, I'm trying to figure out the GPS and the map. I can't get the red arrow to move to a different designation. Apple Stores, have seminar's at nite, that you can sign up for to take a class. I think I am going to take one. I hate tutorials, I'd rather people show me what to do.

I won one at work and got it on Tuesday. I like it but once I get it away from my DD I may learn to love it!

I only bought I case for it. I hated the screen protectors for my Ipod, so I didn't get one for my Ipad. I may regret it.

DD watched a movie on it from netflix last night and I have my apps that I love on it, plus I downloaded a couple of cookbooks. I hope to really get to play with it this weekend when DD is gone to see what I can really do on it.
