I wish I had picked POR

We also changed our reservation when we found out the pool would be closed. It was posted on the Disney site in early January. I called POR immediately and it took a few phone calls to get a room. Keep trying!

I don't understand the other info about two other pools at POFQ. There aren't any other pools. Maybe the CM got mixed up because the main pool at CBR is also closed and they added pool slides to a few of their quiet pools.

It was definitely a big deal for us to be close to a pool. We love to swim every afternoon so I understand why you want to move. Call daily and hope for the best!! Good luck.:goodvibes

Just something to keep in mind, depending on your room location at POR it can still be a little walk if your using the main pool.Quiet pools closer of course.

The hot tub is not closed at POFQ, only the pool and the kiddie pool since they are next to each other. The hot tub at POFQ is not next to the pool. In fact you can't see the pool from the hot tub, it sits off by itself. One reason to keep your ressie at POFQ is that it is picked up and dropped off first before POR for the parks. You could have problems getting a seat at POR. It's also a smaller resort making everything close, except the pool right now.

The hot tub was also closed when I was there last week.

Now I am confused. I going to call back and hopefully get accurate information. I have requested building 6 thinking that I would be closer to POR if we decided to walk. I know that 7 is closer, but it looks like we would have a great chance of getting a parking lot view at 7. I am now thinking that the walk could be just as far from FQ than the most remote building at POR. What do you think?

I am down here now. When I went to check in at POFQ on Friday (the 8th) I was told they had moved me to POR. I declined the move as we really wanted to be at POFQ and our stay at that resort was only for three days. We also have a car so driving over to swim was an option for us.

Anyway, they said that they were moving families with children to POR because of many complaints. You may find that they already have a room available for you at POR when you arrive.

We have stayed several times at POFQ, but we have never stayed at POR. Swimming is a HUGE thing for our family, and we have visited the POR pool on our POFQ trips (in addition to using the POFQ pool - like I said, swimming is a biggie for us).

We have used the boat to get to the pool at POR and it has been painless and easy and pleasant. That said, we met people on our visits who were staying at POR and complained about the large walk to the main pool. We were told by several families that we had an easier time getting to the POR pool from POFQ than they did staying at the resort.

Because of these encounters, if I was scheduled to be at POFQ with the pool down, I would probably chose to stay put and use the POR pool. I may consider adding a waterpark day (and $100 in Disney Dollars may get most of your family in a waterpark depending on the size).

Also, just wanted to add that the person you spoke to about the other pools at POFQ was incorrect. There is only one pool at that resort. I am pretty certain they are confusing with CBR where they have added slides to some quiet pools.

Hope you are able to arrive at a situation that pleases your family.

Thanks Marlynnp! Tell me about the pools. One main pool only or are there two other smaller pools? What about the hot tub? Is it closed too?

I really want to stay at FQ also. If I could, I think I would move to POR if it was offered. The kids picked this resort out of all of the mods because they liked the pool. They are not going to be happy.

We are staying at POFQ from 3-29 to 4-6 and were told by the CM that took our reservation that the pool would be closed, but there were two smaller pools without slides. This was about a month ago. We still picked FQ because we prefer the look.

I'm pretty psyched that the pool will be opened before we get there - the serpent slide looks cool.

That's what I was thinking too.lol

It's not optimal to have the pool closed, but imo it won't be as bad as you might think.Make a little adventure out of the walk/ride and enjoy POFQ.

Have fun.

I would love to hear from others who just got back from POFQ.

Also, can I call directly to POFQ and ask about other pools? Can I check on reservations at POR by calling there directly? It seems like there is a lot of confusion regarding this matter with the CM's.

There is most definately only 1 pool at POFQ. I agree with the poster who stated the CM you talked to was confusing POFQ with CBR. CBR was putting slides in their quiet pools during their pool rehab. POFQ does not have any other pools, the dragon pool is the only one.

Don't give up hope on switching resorts yet. Call every day, something may open up. Have you been checking CSR too? It has a very nice pool area.

Lurleen, When did you find out that the pool was going to be closed? I found out this past Saturday.

I found out about the pool closing right after New Year's. I read about it on the PO-FQ thread here on the DIS. I immediately called WDW and switched the reservation to POR.

For some people, not having a pool near the room is no big deal. For my kids, it is. If it's warm, they'll swim late at night. They can't do that if the pool is a mile away. (And yes, it literally is one mile between PO-FQ and POR.)

I did some checking around after switching the reservation and discovered that I could get the teacher's rate at the Dolphin. It's close to what we were going to pay at PO-FQ, so that's where we're headed next week.

Good luck to you!

I wonder if they are referring to the kiddie pools at POFQ? :confused3

WOW I'm beginning to think that when we go POR is going to be hopping with people because of the pool closing at POFQ!! That scares me:scared1: :scared1: that means busy everything...

We are due to be at the POFQ next week and we just found out about the pool closing ourselves, but we are just two older adults that have stayed there the last 10 trips and I told the CM that we never swim and that is Fine with us. He said Bless You all I get are very angry people when they find out. I said why don't WDW let the people know as soon as Disney knows this is going to happen, and the CM said :confused3 ....I don't think it's fair. For us it's no big deal but if I were coming with children or grandchildren I would want a pool for them to swim in. Not to take a bus than walk over a bridge ect.. Too much for a family with children. I wish you Luck and like the other posters said, Keep trying something might open.

Boy, are you getting a lot of confusing information! We just returned from POFQ Wednesday night and I can tell you with 100% certainty that there is only 1 pool at FQ - no kiddie pools. The hot tub was also closed while we were there. I thought it would be a major pain too but honestly it was less than a 10 minute walk from our room at POFQ [building 5] to the 1st quiet pool at POR [ mansion section - just over the 1st bridge] and just a couple minutes longer to the main pool. You can always take the boat over and there were CM's driving golf carts between the 2 offering rides. Yes, it would have been great to swim in the pool at POFQ, but it was not so bad going over to POR to swim. We loved POFQ!!! Good luck!

We were at POFQ 1/26 thru 2/2--definitely only one pool--which was closed--, and the hot tub WAS CLOSED when we were there.

We loved POFQ and will go back next year!

I agree with you, Chatty, that Disney ought to let people with reservations know about something like this. I'm sure there are many people who don't swim or care about the pool closing. But for those of us with fish-blooded kids, it's a huge deal.

If I didn't read the DIS boards, I wouldn't have known about the pool closing. We made our reservation back in August, and Disney did not inform me in any way about their plans to close the pool.

SuzieN, we totally loved PO-FQ when we stayed there. We were very disappointed about not being able to stay there on our upcoming trip. I agree that it is a wonderful resort. But truthfully, no pool on the grounds would never work for my family, and that's why we switched our reservation.

I am grateful for these boards because I found out about it in time enough to change our reservation. If I were the OP of this thread, I'd be livid and be doing a lot more complaining to Disney.

When you're paying close to $200 for a hotel room in Florida, not having a pool on the grounds is completely unacceptable IMO.

We were there from 02/02-02/04 and the hot tub was closed also. It was right outside of our room, unless it has opened in the last few days.
