I will never "get" this!

We went to a concert last night. Opening act was Huey Lewis and the News; second act was Chicago. So there were these two women sitting next to me who kept screaming and jumping up to "dance". A few rows ahead of us were another pair of women who kept getting up to dance - so the people right in front of me would stand to see, so then I had to stand to see. arrrgh! If everyone just remains seated, we can all see! What is so difficult to understand about that? The screaming was so unnecessary - grown women (in their 40's) acting like teeny-boppers!

So if you stand during concerts, how do you justify standing, blocking the view of people behind you?

(by the way, Huey was fantastic - as usual. Chicago has never really been my thing - DH was always their big fan & they were surprisingly good. Horns were great and their new, younger singers did a good job.)

sorry, Im a stander. I figure why go to a concert to sit down?

No offense meant :) Just my opinion. Of course the only concerts I go to anymore almost everyone dances because well thats just what the music says to do ;) :)

Havent been to a band like Huey Lewis so maybe I would sit for that one.

No offense taken. I just don't get how you justify blocking the view of the person behind you. Unless, of course, everyone stands & enjoys standing. Huey is for the kinda older set, so some of us old folks don't wanna stand. I have this problem at Chris Isaak concerts, too.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone sitting at a concert, but maybe we go to different types of concerts. :confused3

I agree w/ you OP, I think it's incredibly rude.

I think the performer would be offended if everyone just sat and watched emotionless.... :confused3

There are some concerts definately sit worthy (George Strait)
and some that you HAVE to just dance!! (Jimmy Buffett)

its part of going to a concert!!

well I am considerate in that way. like I said almost everyone dances at GBS shows and since those are really the only kind I go to anymore I guess its not quite the same.

The last one we went to we dances at the fast songs and sat during the quiet ones. There was a couple sitting behind us but it was a in theatre setting so they could still see. I asked if we were bothering them and they said " No no go ahead, youre having fun" :)

I cant imagine standing for Chris Issak though  that is mellow to the extreme, what does one do when one stands at one his concerts? :confused3

Who said anything about "sitting and watching emotionless"?
I agree, it really depends on the concert though.

I agree with OP. I think it's rude. In fact, it's the primary reason I don't go to concerts anymore! I can dance in my seat - without standing! - and sing along and really get into a concert without blocking everyone else's view. The last concert I went to, everyone was standing, which was the way it was, until the row in front of me decided to STAND ON THEIR SEATS! No one could see anything from this point on, the bouncers did not tell them to sit down, and although we tried, they ignored us. I spent $75.00 ea on my seats, that I didn't sit in, and I couldn't even see because of the ignorant people in front of me. Never again, I'll rent a concert video instead!

I went to see Elton John a year or so ago and was surprised that NO ONE was standing.

Two women actually called security on two women in front of them for blocking their view.

It's a concert!!! You're supposed to stand up,...unless it's something boring.

Must have been a boring concert, if no-one was standing. Don't sit in front of me at a concert, I stand and Dance! :cool1:

I can groove pretty good sitting in my seat. The bands will ask people to stand for some songs & clap (even sing) along. I'm OK with that. I just don't like someone dictating that I MUST stand throughout the concert in order to see the lead singer.

I guess this is one of those - either you're a stander or a sitter!

Who cares if they were 40? Stand up, dance & have a good time!

oooh can I come?

I'm 36 and I still dance at concerts. :confused3 WTH, I even climbed on my chair for a few minutes at the Pat Benatar concert last year.

I have never been to a concert where you sit. I just can't imagine sitting at a concert.
