I went to the Disney Casting office on Monday(long post)

You might not love it so much once you start working there.

I think I may agree with Kallison. Sometimes since our best week out of a 52 week year is the one we spend having fun with our family on vacation we expect that a job there has to be filled with days and nights of the same. I think someone else said it that they quit after one day b/c they didn't like to see all of the "magic" spoiled by knowing the ins and outs.

That being said, Disney is an employer of thousands and i'm sure a lot of them love their work more than any money could buy.

You can't live off mininuim wage go for the money. Mininuim Wage is hard to live off. I working for 5.50 hour part time because I can't find nothing better. I hate may job. But I can't afford to quit either.

I am lucky that I have a seasonal job that I love working at the baseball park. That pays me good money.

I understand trying live out your dream but you could end up hating your dream to.

Here's a idea how doing WDW as a seasonal job. I sure that they have seasonal jobs in the summer. That way live out your dream job and work a real job through the week.

We have plenty people do that at the baseball park where I am manager at.

Today I was thinking about your original post again. I was wondering how much time you would be spending in the parks and how much of your salary would be spent on the parks. Then when I came in to catch up on the thread I see that you covered that subject. That's what I would look into at this stage. Break it down and see if you would have the same amount of money for living working at WDW vs. another job and spending "x" amount of money at WDW.

Good thought, I'm going to have to add that one up.

Just my 2 cents, but this is a big step. I mean you are young. You have retirement to save for, kids (you mentioned having them) educations to pay for. I would think that taking a pay cut wouldn't be wise at this stage in the game. That is unless you are already 100% financially stable. DH and I are both 29. We are in the begining stages of getting our sea legs in the financial game. Things have just started coming together in the last 2 years. I figure it's gonna be 10 more years until I'm completely "comfortable". We have a small savings for the first time, and we are setting up retirement plans. As well as I want to start contributing more readily to DS's college fund.

I would just think that being financially set and able to plan for the future is something to take into consideration. A dream won't be a dream if your stressed everyday because you are barely making it financially.

I would not work there if I were you. Given your circumstances: kids, finances, new to the area, etc. I think that you should get a job that is going to pay the bills.

It's all glamorous in the beginning, but the magic does wear off. If you *really* want to love Disney as a whole for the rest of your life, then do not take this job. I speak from experience. I have seen the "behind the scene" stuff, and it has altered my outlook as a whole.

People go into the positions dreaming of the great "perks" offered to the employees. Sometimes those perks cannot over shadow the pay, hours, schedule, and everything else that comes along!

I'd REALLY REALLY think about your other alternatives before deciding to take this position.

And you had said something about getting a raise...I would not bank on it. JMHO.

This may be long shot, but maybe you could do waitressing or bartending at the Ohana or something. They make tips and from the looks of it, good ones.

Some advice: Don't just say the words, make them happen. Trying will not hurt you. This is common knowledge, many people are afraid to try something especially when it comes to moving and jobs...money, all that stuff. It definatley is what is in your heart. I took a pay cute to work at Disney. Didn't neccessarily like my job a whole ton (Sunset Blvd Food and Beverage) but I met tons of people, had great experiences, and learned a lot about Disney and how the business works. I can honestly say that working there can ruin "the magic." For me, it didn't. I totally separated the working aspect from the enjoyment/vacation aspect. There isn't really a specific way to do it, i just did it. Plus, the benefits are quite good for cast members in the sense that you get free admission and lots of discounts.

Think of a slightly bigger picture too. Orlando is a nice place. There are many other booming companies and feilds to pursue if Disney does not work out to your liking.

Try it. Things can always be altered if they do not work out. Good Luck!

Oh, Do you know anyone that works at Disney?? You would be more likely to get something you truly wanted (i imagine) then if you just walked in and said "hey, i wanna work here.":sunny:

I think those of us who are Disney fans would be happier working somewhere else, and availing ourselves of the opportunities of living nearby. Working at Disney part time to get the benefits might make it worthwhile.

No, but I have a cast member referral card. I talked to casting on the phone Wed and they said it is not that hard to get what you want, but sometimes if the casting agent thinks you would be better in a certain area they might put you there.

I got 2 fortune cookies in the same week that have really neat sayings in them. I kept them and put them in my keychain that holds a pic. The first one says "Focus on your long term goal", the next says "Life's too short, follow your dream". I thought that was neat I got those in the same week. I keep looking at them all the time.

Yikes! I'd follow your head and take your heart to WDW on the weekends. I want to work at WDW too, and I love it there, but I just don't think I love it that much. I haven't made $6.50 in a long time and hope I never have to again. Good luck

Wow! I think the Fortune Cookies are the deciding factor. Go and work for Disney for $6.50 an hour. Have a wonderful life! :p

I'd wait until you moved there or find out what kind of job your husband will be getting. If you can't pay the bills on 6.50 an hour, you still won't be happy with your life.

I would follow my heart.......pray a lot. God will steer you in the right direction!
