I had posted a thread asking for opinions of the movie this past weekend. We went and saw it yesterday (me and hubby and BIL). Wow is all I can say about this movie. Granted it was almost 3 hours long, but I only looked at my watch once.

I won't give away the movie for those who haven't seen it, but for those who have, did anyone else cry during the final, ahem, "intimate" scene?? The flashback was SOOOO intense and real I bawled!!!

This movie better win some awards. Eric Bana ROCKED and the rest of the cast was superb. Oh, FYI, the part of Ephriam was played by Captain Barbossa. I didn't even recognize him! :)

The movie wasn't as graphic/gory as I expected. Sure it was bloody and VERY intense/disturbing, but I wasn't "grossed out," if you will. My husband was though! I looked at him during the first part of the movie when the hostages were being taken and he had his hands over his eyes!! LOL!

Anyway, go see this movie. Spielburg did an awesome job :)

Thanks for posting your review ::yes:: . I haven't seen this movie and I look forward to when the movie comes out on video (I don't get to the show much with 2 little girls. )

I really want to see this - but I am scared I will be upset...

I remember the actual hostage crisis during the Olympics, and how devastating it was.

Me too Deb. I am really looking forward to seeing it, but DH and DD don't want to go at all. So I might have to wait until it comes out on DVD.....

Thanks for the review. I will put in on my must see list (but after it is out on Netflix--no hubby here to see it in theaters :().

I remember watching the movie Prefontaine (track runner, 1 mile I think) and he competed in that Olympics--was expected to do well but was very affected as I am sure many of the athletes were by the events. :(

Lyndsey-can you explain the premise as I am not very clear on what the movie is really about? (thought it was about the hostage situation by itself actually until I read that article I mentioned in your other thread).

Am I the only one that goes to movies by myself ? DH and I do not care for the same movies, and as there are certain ones I want to see in a theater, I go on my own...he does the same. I've actually always preferred to go alone...if you go w/ someone, then there is always a compromise...I pick this time, you pick next type of thing...I am very picky about movies, and I don't want to sit through something not to my taste.

Ok, let me see if I can make any sense. It is about the assassination of the people behind the crisis. The folks behind making it happen. Yes you do see how they were taken hostage, how they were killed, etc., throughout the movie. Wait, this may actually help. It's a plot review from screenit.com:

It's 1972 and an extremist Palestinian group known as Black September has just kidnapped and killed eleven members of the Israeli Olympic team in Munich, Germany. In response, the Israeli government has ordered quick retaliation as a means of showing the terrorists and the world its strength and resolve. Accordingly, Mossad case officer Ephraim (GEOFFREY RUSH) chooses intelligence officer Avner (ERIC BANA) for the job. Married to Daphna (AYELET ZURER) who's pregnant with their child, Avner doesn't seem the most likely candidate for the job, but Ephraim and other high ranking officials believe in him. They've also set him up with a team of experts who will assist him in striking back at the terrorists. There's bomb maker Robert (MATHIEU KASSOVITZ), getaway driver Steve (DANIEL CRAIG), master forgery expert Hans (HANNS ZISCHLER) and Carl (CIARAN HINDS) who serves as the team's clean up man. With Daphna sent off to the U.S. without knowledge of Avner's specific assignment, the now officially unofficial Mossad agent begins tracking down the terrorists, mainly through paid tips from French informant Louis (MATHIEU AMALRIC) who works for his equally enigmatic father (MICHAEL LONSDALE).

With their carefully planned assassinations under way, the team must not only deal with being on their own, but also the retaliatory response from the other side as well as thoughts and doubts about whether what they're doing is right or will even have any sort of long-lasting effect.

Does that answer your question?? Also, I went to this site BEFORE I saw the movie. It helped knock the edge off of some of the violence, since I knew what I would be seeing. Just go to screenit.com and do a search for "Munich."
