I was very impressed with the President's speech tonight

Again with the semantic argument  Fine. He "certainly implied it". Happy ?

That's a lie. Kerry has answered that a hundred times since Dick came out with his cute little "permission slip" line.

1) I find it amusing that you always fall back to the "it's just semantics  " when someone points out that you made an incorrect statement. But hey, whatever floats your boat. ;)

2) Senator Kerry has made it clear that he is, in general, opposed to the U.S. using military force without the concurrence of the international community. He has (incorrectly) criticized President Bush numerous times for going to war without allies. So which is it?

That wasn't a lie! You gave me the same argument a couple of weeks ago. When I mentioned the coalition, you stated (I think this is the country you derided) something to the effect of, "Fine. Zimbabwe is a coalition?"

The point is that the whole Democratic Party continues to state we went at it alone--all because France and Germany didn't come along. We had a vast coalition. That was the point. It wasn't a lie, and you know it!

"As I have traveled our country, I have met too many good doctors, especially OB-GYNS, who are being forced out of practice because of the high cost of lawsuits. To make health care more affordable and accessible, we must pass medical liability reform now. And in all we do to improve health care in America, we will make sure that health decisions are made by doctors and patients, not by bureaucrats in Washington, DC."

Yep. DW would have stood and cheered at that one but she was too tired from 30 straight hours of deliveries..... ;)

Hope she got some time off today, Galahad.

By the way, does she know this factoid:

"John Edwards was the plaintiffs' lawyer in 1997 when a North Carolina jury ordered an obstetrician and her employer to pay the parents of a retarded girl $23.2 million the largest award ever for a medical malpractice case in the state."

In fact, John Edwards, more than any doctor, is the person who almost single-handedly raised the C-section rate from 5% in the '70's to 20% today, after winning these astronomical awards.

He famously imitated the "voice" of the fetus, crying out and imploring the obstrician to perform a C-section to spare her from having cerebral palsy during one of his trials.

Interestingly, although the C-section rate has markedly increased, the incidence of cerebral palsy has remained the same. The reason? Edwards' argument was wrong. The vast majority of cases of cerebral palsy are not caused by birth asphyxia, but rather pre-natal or developmental disorders.

Thanks! She did...and ostensibly has the weekend off.

Yes, she does know that factoid..... You wouldn't believe the kind of things her group are threatened with lawsuits over. Thankfully, Indiana is still a relatively reasonable place to be an OB so most of them never see the light of day. But it's still amazing and disturbing.

One of her nurses brought in bumper stickers for all of the staff last week. They're great! "Drive Carefully......Your Lawyer Can't Save Your Life".

If Kerry is elected, I sure hope that Edwards is not given any responsibility remotely related to healthcare.

That bumper sticker is a good one. I will have to tell my DH about that one.

He told me write in today and say that he doesn't want a trial lawyer in charge of this country. And what he did to those poor doctors and this generation of doctors w/ his lawsuits is a sin. We are having such issues w/ the doctors in PA. My wonderful Ob-Gyn is still here, thank God, but I don't know for how long. And my FIL just got a quad bypass this past February and his heart surgeons were fabulous. They actually take the person's heart out and connect it to a machine while doing the bypass, then put it back in to the chest cavity. Whoa! I can't imagine for the life of me why we are allowing these trial lawyers and their suits to run these good doctors out of here. We don't need lawyers to save our lives.... we do need doctors and they are worth every penny they get and more.
