I was told by a CM waiter that in Jan they will add 18% to DDE users

I am not sure how Disney is going to come out ahead on all of this. From what most people are saying if the tip is not included in the DDP then they won't be purchasing it. And a good number of people said the DDP was what made them stay on property. I mostly likely won't purchase it. It wouldn't be a deal if you had to purchase pay rack rates for the room, purchase the dining plan, and then pay a tip on an appetizer, entree, dessert and drink for everyone in your party. That adds up quick. I'd rather try and get a discount on the room and pay in cash for my meals. I'd mostly eat a little more counter service meals. I'd still go to sit-down places but probably not everyday and then only get an entree and drink. Who knows maybe this is what they want? I will just sit tight and wait until we hear the official word then decide.

A reasonable person could even deduct $8-$10 for a CS meal and $3-$4 for a snack from the daily cost of the plan.
I doubt most reasonable people would think to do that. I suspect most (though indeed surely not all) will just look at the number on the bill, multiply by 15% or 18% or whatever, on go from there.

The only problem I have with gratuity added to the bill is this: Many times the servers know they can slack, because the gratuity is included.
I didn't encounter any such servers during our visit in February.

I don't think we can read anything into that. People who are upset will voice their perspectives much more so than people who aren't. And even those who say they'll do something in response may or may not do so. They may just be expressing frustration.

hmmm, we always just throw back in the discounted amount.....such a shame that they are changing this yet again....

Just wanted to say that we are also a family (of 4) who always tipped what the 20% discount was (rounded up to the next dollar or more) -- unless the service was really, really bad.

I guess it's just going to be easier now to just leave it alone and we will save some money:)
