.......pumping my own gas. I am out inserting my credit card into the blasted slot, it keeps beeping at me and not registering. I keep trying, eventually it registers. I am now instructed to select my fuel type. I do. Now, I need to begin fueling.......NOTHING happens!!!!!! I try and try again, NOTHING. I cancel out the transaction, get into my car and head for the only other pump free. As I am approaching (after several manuevers so as the gas tank is on the pump side), this whack job in a jeep comes barreling in and pulls right up to the pump that I am about to back into!!! Music is blarring, not that I have anything against music, in a large public arena like gas stations, I think it is curtious to lower the volume so as not to offend or disturb others. He had to see my backup lights, I know he knew I was headed for that pump. What an a** wipe!!!!
OK, I'm done.

My question is -- does the Philly area (looks like that's where you are) really have gas station attendants that pump your gas for you? That's unheard of here in Florida!

yes, but they are few and far between. Usually Mom and Pop shops. Lucky for me, I have one right down the street from me. The whole pumping my own gas thing just makes me want to move to New Jersey. It is my understanding that you are not allowed to pump your own gas......what a great state!!!!!!

I don't think we have any more gas stations that pump gas for you here either.

I know that I haven't seen a full service gas station since I was young.

That is one of the highlights of living here.It isn't much but it's something.:)

LOL! Funny, but my fiance moved from jersey to Pa, and loves the fact we can pump our own gas! I hate it, but I guess thats more a mans thing. We were in OC this past weekend, and it took forever to get out of the gas station, the attendant took forever to take the pump out of the gas tank! I didn't mind, but my fiance was being impatient and felt like getting out and removing it himself! I think he just remembers the time his ex drove off with the pump still in the gas tank!

BTW caintw8, we are neighbors! Just sent you a PM!

I guess I am in the minority- I have never pumped my own gas in my life!

few stations offer to pump gas in pa. those that do, tend to charge more. There's a full-serve station near my brother and it's nearly 10 cents more than I pay to pump my own.

Why can't you pump your own gas in Jersey?

It's been 20 years since I last saw a gas station that was anything other than self-service here in GA. I could be convienced to pay for full service. Mickey

About 2 and a half months ago when driving from IN to FL I pulled off at an exit with a small gas station (don't remember what state I was in) and it was a full service station. I had never been to one of those in my entire life, and I was sort of excited to see this young kid (maybe 12-13) run out to pump for me. It is a small pleasure, but a nice one. Some how when pumping my own gas I always seem to pick a pump that has a broken tab thingy that holds the trigger for you (no clue what you call that) so I have to stand there holding it, and then the pump always manages to leak a small bit of gas onto my hand so that I smell like gasoline for the next couple of hours!!

In Southern NJ, (very close to Philly) its ILLEGAL to pump your own gas.. they do it for you.. and its cheaper than in PA!

I can't figure it out. NJ and one other state are the only two states in the nation that has that law...

Back when self servs started, some NJ politician decided he wanted to save jobs by keeping attendenants to pump your gas.

Cindy, are you sure NJ gas is cheaper then Pa? When my fiance lived in NJ, he always saved getting gas when he came to Pa cause it was cheaper. He still fills up here before a trip to the shore. Though he did say last week when we were went to OC the gas was actually cheaper there, and that was unusual.

As a proud non-gas pumping NJer, I can say that NJ prices do tend to be lower than PA or NY where there is self pumping. We are only one of 2 states that does not allow self pumping and prices are supposedly lower due to insurance costs (think of all the wonderful lawsuits over the years when people have screwed up pumping their own).

Wow we have quite a few gas stations in Central Mass that pump for you and the one by where I work is cheaper than the self serve!

I don't even know how to pump my own gas. Everytime we go to WDW I tell my DH I want to learn how to pump our gas. Then it's so hot I don't want to get out of the car. :D

It's illegal to pump your own gas here in Oregon as well. I sat at a gas station in Florida for 5 minutes in June b/c I forgot I had to pump my own.

I love not pumping my own gas. Specially when it's raining.
