I am not sure how I feel about this. I work for a small practice and the only other employee is the docs brother. The doc sat me down yesterday and said that due to finances, he can only afford 1 employee. He will give me a letter or rec and do everything he can to make sure I get unemployment and anything else I need. He asked me to stay for 2 weeks until he gets the new billing system installed, my replacement. I am thankful that I have a 2 week notice to prepare and that I know I will be eligible for unemployment. I really love(d) my job, but knew that I was at the top here pay and advancement wise. Eventually I would have had to look elsewhere. I guess now is as good a time as any. We just returned from a great week at US/IOA and I am thankful he waited until after the trip to say anything. I really don't know what to think, I just needed to get it out a bit for now. Thanks for listening.

I am so sorry! I hope this leads to a wonderful new beginning. :)

I would definitely get the letter from him (preferably in a word document so you can print as needed) and dust off my resume. My Mom was laid off a few years ago and had unemployment, and found some of the resources they provided to be helpful in looking for a new job.

Good luck! :goodvibes

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you find something you love just as much and that it happens soon for you.

There is really no good way to lay someone off. At least he allowed you to have a good vacation.

We're about to go through a re-org here. I bet Im on the list of bye byes

I feel for you. I've heard so much of this for the last five years amongst family & friends & I keep wondering if it will ever end. I feel like we are living with the sword of Damocles over our heads with DH's job. They flat out told everybody that this issue is up for review every 3 to 6 months. DH really thought his number was up in February's round, but we were spared for now. He feels vulnerable because he's the only one in his area getting close to technical retirement status & his company is famous for pulling the rug just ahead of qualification. It's sickening because they're still making major profits, yet are offshoring thousands of jobs for a completely ridiculous goal -- it's not even cost-cutting anymore. It's a goal they've now openly & insultingly stated to employees & genuinely makes no sense & will not ever produce fruit.

I understand your feelings more than you know & would love to read an update very soon that opportunity knocked your door down & things turned out better than your wildest dreams!

I'm so sorry! DH was laid off in November and it came as quite a shock to both of us. He ended up getting a way better job a few months later :goodvibes

All the best to you. I'm sure that you will find something that you love very soon!! :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear it. I hope you find a job that will offer you more opportunities and one that you will enjoy! Good luck!

I'm so sorry. It's tough. At least you got a bit of notice. I was just laid off from an event management job on Friday. All of a sudden, I got an email saying the company was shut down and we were all laid off immediately. And that's the last communication I've had from anyone.

I'm sitting around wallowing for the moment, but I'm going to use this time to build up my home business that's been a bit neglected.

I'm so sorry that you got laid off, but at least he did it in a nice way. Since you have medical experience, you shouldn't have any problems getting another job. I hope it will be better for you.:goodvibes

That really stinks. I hope the time and attention for your home business pays off big time!

Just a little word of advice, give yourself a set amount of time to wallow & then force yourself to buck up. Living in Michigan I've spent plenty of time the past several years being a supportive shoulder & listening ear to plenty of folks dealing with this. Believe me, job or no job, don't get sucked into the wallowing very long.

Just wanted to send you some good vibes 'n hopes that you'll get a really cool job.

I am so sorry to hear that, times just do not seem to be getting better. My fiancee was laid off in the trucking industy from May of 08 until last December and could not find a new job, he was called back but now they have started laying off again so we are on pins and needles again. My company has been doing major layoffs too so we are always on edge, it is so bad they are laying off people who have been there for over 30 years who were one day from reaching the company retirement age and making them sign papers saying they couldn't sue or they would lose there severance:confused:

I'm sorry to hear about the situation. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing good employees that want to work get laid off. As much as I'm sure it doesn't make it better I have to say that I think your boss handled it really well. Not a lot of employers would give notice or have the forethought to wait until after your vacation to tell you.

Hopefully you find something soon. Heck, maybe even before your two weeks is up.

Thanks. No, I won't wallow and feel sorry for myself for long. Heck, my husband won't allow that! I'm going to a networking event this week, and am spending some time brainstorming and figuring out what I want to do.

Sounds like you have a great attitude. Good for you. :thumbsup2 I see you do billing for a physician's office. Have you thought of working for an insurance company or doing IT? It is a very big field right now. Just wanted to throw it out there in case it interested you.

Ooh, I'd love to see what a motivated and morally outraged attorney could do w/ the agreements they're making those folks sign under duress. Hopefully a little birdie chirps into the right ears. :rolleyes1

Hope things work out workwise for you and your DH.

I´m very sorry. I must also compliment you on your positive outlook. I´m sure it will help you a lot in finding a new job. Good luck! :)
