how accurate are the wait times that are posted? For example, if the standby wait for the jungle cruise is 20 minutes, do you actually wait 20 minutes or is it more or less?

You know, that it a good question. Most of the lines, when we were there 2 weeks ago, said 20 minutes. Yet when I got on line, it was more like 10 or less. Unless they are counting the wait time and and the time it takes to complete the ride/attraction :confused3

Example. When I went to Space Mountain, the wait time (stand by line) said 20 minutes. Yet when I went in, the line was very short and was constantly moving. So I would say I spent less than 5 minutes of actual wait time before getting on.

We just got back and from what I experienced the wait times were normally less than what was posted. I think there were just one or two where the wait was actually longer.

I always thought that the wait times were from that point til the end of the attraction.

I think Disney does a pretty good job of trying to keep the wait times as accurate as possible.

Twice on my last trip, I was given a special plastic card by the cast member at the beginning of the ride. I was asked to give it to the last CM I saw before getting on the ride. Apparently, that's how they can tell how long it takes to get from the beginning of the line to the ride itself. [I always wondered how they knew how long it would be!] They update these times periodically, but of course, they're not always as accurate as they could be.

My DH got those red plastic cards on two of rides we went on. But I thought the time that is posted was the "wait" time before getting on. At least it was when I was there back in 93 (pre-FP days).

Same with us 2 weeks ago. RRC was listed at almost an hour, but it took only about 20 min. TOT said 30 and it took 10. Movie ride said 20 and it was 20. It seems to be a case of is anyone really assigned to the task.

I think during the "off seasons" they are a bit padded. Jungle Cruise said 20 mins and it was more like 10 or less. Soarin' had 30 mins posted and we literally walked up to the loading area. Most everything said 10 mins at least and all were less than that.

In the summer months or busy times, I have found the wait times to be accurate.

I can see attractions like you mentioned above being correct on the wait times due to the length of them. Those would include: Jungle Cruise, Backlot Tour, Energy with Ellen, etc. It takes more than 10 minutes to complete.

But I think Disney should try to have an accurate wait time as possible for the ones where the cars/boats are constantly coming in. Example: Space Mountain, Splash, HM, POTC, clam mobile in Nemo, etc.

Wow. I always thought they would be accurate.

Just as a side note, if there are 2 lines the one to left is almost always shorter. People tend to go right.

We were at POTC last Tuesday and waiting in line, and heard the CM say "the left side is open too" but no one was going in it! So we took off and went in it and walked right on while the line was pretty long on the right! I think no one wanted to use that line, because no one else was in it! We saw that at the Fastpass Area at TT too. There were two long lines at the machines, and a machine that was uncovered that no one was using. I walked up and put in our passes and got the FP's and a guy walked up and asked us, "isn't this one working?" and I told him I just used it and so he used it too but no one else was! :rotfl2:

In Oct in the evening one night Sorin was posted at 90 minutes but it was a walk on.

I think for the most part, they are overstated...but beware the Jungle Cruise (since you mention that one in particular), it is a very misleading line. Just when you think you are coming close to the front of the line, you enter another section of maze. It's one that I always wait longer for than anticipated. But it' worth it. One of the classics.

The left line theory is true. Majority of people on instinct go to the right. But, the theory is well known. So.....

Works like a charm...On POTC everyone was going right, but I saw that the left side was open -- led my entire family - DH, 3 kiddos *plus* the in-laws to the left. They were *very uncomfortable* going left with me (was kind of funny b/c I'm the free spirit liberal of the group, leading them left, which was kind of a funny metaphor, but anyway...) Sure enough, we zipped all the way to the front of th POTC ride line! Great tip.
