I was almost named.....

I was nearly named Wilomena, my mom loved the name. (me - not so much!)
She changed her mind when I was born. I had a head of flaming red hair - everyone commented on it as a negative thing. (not to get political but I was born in a maternity hospital in a very protestant part of Belfast, we're catholic, it was early 70s and all)
So my mom decided to name me after a very fierce, very irish, pirate! I'm Gráinne, named after a pirate pirate:

Oh my gosh. I've always loved your name! You're the first person I've ever "met" named it, though.

I am a girl, and my name is Tracey. Tracy is actually a surname from way back in my family, and had I been a boy, I would have been Tracy. I have my Mom's first name as my middle name. Had I been a boy, my middle name would have been my Dad's first name.

My DD is Katherine, and had she been a boy she would have been Mark.

My son, Mark would have possibly been Christine or Christina had he been a girl.

It took my mom 3 days to name me!!!!! I highly doubt she had any clue what she was going to name me before I was born. If I were a boy, I think my dad was going to name me.

I do know my sister was going to be Debbie Ann but they didn't like the inititals would spell with our last name so changed it to Kathy Ann.

I'm just *really* glad I was born in May -- my middle name is May spelled just like the month because that was the month I was born in. My mom thought Becky May went. I just don't think Becky October or something like that would have had the same ring to it.

I'm Eden Elizabeth. I was almost named Elizabeth and would have been called Beth, but my cousin Bethany was born before me. If I were a boy, I would have been named Alec.

Thats a really pretty name.

I really like that name too. Im a flaming red head too:cool1:

For some reason they thought I was going to be a boy and I was going to be named after my Grandfather, Robert. Well I wasn't a boy but my mother thought Roberta would be a beautiful name!!:rotfl2: Thank God my sister who was 13 at the time said she would kidnap me and they would never see either of us again. My mom asked her what she wanted to name me and she picked Susan and that's what I am:love:

Well, I was almost Jessie.....then my younger brother was almost Jesse.

Then my mother suggested Jessie/Jesse for both my DD & DS when I was choosing names. :confused3

My mom can't remember, she thinks I would have been a Chad. I really wanted to name DD Lauren Elizabeth and then a friend got pregnant and used that name so I had to rethink the whole thing. I really like Ava Grace if we were ever to have another girl, but DD wants to name her sister Juliette so I have a feeling I'll be outvoted. :rolleyes1

It's a great name! She'll just be explaining that she's just Kate, not short for anything. I once had a lady argue with me that I was lying about my name! It doesn't happen often though.

:thumbsup2 Same thing with my "I'm *really* just Becky"...although people still occassionally insist on saying I'm Rebecca if you say so but... you won't find a single stitch of proof of that. Used to irritate the living daylights out of me but I've mellowed since I've gotten older & blow it off more now depending on the situation. Then throw the May spelling instead of Mae (I didn't even *know* the name Mae was spelled Mae until a guy wrote my name that way in my yearbook in Jr. High -- I was baffled as the only way I knew to spell May was like the month!).

My name is Sonya, and I was always going to be Sonya. I was named after my aunt, Sonia. If I were a boy, I would've been Jason. :sad2:

If I have kids, my top two names are Matilda and James. Believe me, my parents tease me about Matilda. I think it's a beautiful, rare, strong name. And when she's old, she won't be the lady in the hopsital with the popular names like "Brayndyn" or "Starrrr" or "Krystyiniyaa".

I was almost named Emily, but my Dad did not like it. So I'm Sarah Marie. My parents were going to name me Sarah Lee (My Dad's middle name), but my Grandpa vetoed that and said that people would make fun of me because of the Sara Lee cakes and pies. So Marie it was, which is my Grandma's middle name. Had I been a boy, I would have been Nicholas.

Well my name is Charity Lynn but Mom was going to name Crystal. If I had been a boy I would have been Bradley.

My daughter is Rayne Renee but she could have been Celeste Lynn. My son is Carter Dean but would have been Ryleigh Lynn had he been a girl.

Anyone else notice the Disboards have a lot of Susan's and other varients of that?

I was going to be Barbara Ann but ended up Diane Marie. But the really odd story is this one.....my dh is my second marriage. I got pregnant at 43, already had two kids (19 and 16). Well, due to my 'advanced' age, I had to have an amnio done...we found out we were having a girl. We had talked about names, and finally decided on Kathryn Elizabeth. So....when we told dh's mother this, she just paled and sat down. Seems that Kathryn Elizabeth was supposed to be my dh's name if he had been a girl...but she had never told him that. Man, what a shocker that one was.

Well, that was mud in their eyes, wasn't it? :rotfl:

My Nana never admitted to what had possessed her to name my Dad William. Many's the time he got beaten for it as a boy. He generally used Liam at home, though in the US he was known as Bill.

DS is named for Dad, and the first time we took him to visit, someone joked that, "It could have been worse; you might have named him Oliver, after all."

Ha ha! I had an Uncle Willie! We always used to giggle when he called.
He now has everyone call him Bill - but every once in a while we like to call him "Uncle Willie" just to annoy him!

My mom was set on Kathryn, Katie for short. They were convinced I was going to be a boy, though, and I was going to be named Kevin. I think this jinxed my love life because I have had problems with four different Kevins in my life.

My maiden name started with an R and was 5 letters, my Mom wanted to name me Robin Renae R.... The name she did go with I never use except in legal situations when I have to, Michelle. I think I should legally change it to Shelli, that is what I always go by, but I've never gotten around to it. I don't know if they had a boys name picked out for me.

Oldest DD would have been Jared Lee and youngest DD would have been Tyler Michael, instead they are Miranda and Becca. Becca is just Becca. She gets called Rebecca a lot and she doesn't like it, at all!

Anthony Michael but my Father wanted to name me Luigi William but my Mother refused which given that I was born in 1980 I am ever grateful because that would have been hell for me in the 1st grade when the Mario Bros game came out...If I were born a girl my parents would have named me Angelina Rose...yeah no hiding that I am a "WithOut Papers" :lmao:

I was almost Candy. Not Candace..Candy. my Dad fought for it the whole time. My mom already had my name picked out though. She named me Stacey after a girl she sat next too in High School. My mom said she liked the way the name looked, spelled out in cursive on her letterman jacket and it stuck with her all those years.
