How fantastic you all are!!!!! I have been checking W.I.S.H. out, and I am really impressed with how supportive everyone is with the ups and downs of getting healthy. It is nice to read encouraging words without any judgements. Thank you everyone, you have all inspired me to start getting in shape! Can I join W.I.S.H too?

I am going to buy a treadmill, can anyone give me suggestions on brand and what types of features to look for?

I can't help you with the treadmill. I wanted to say welcome and for those losing they put the WISH clipart in their signature and as they lose they update the clipart with one that shows how many pounds they have lost! Grab the clipart and get ready for lots of support!!!!!!

Hi Crazy!

The more the merrier! Grab your clippie and get with the program! This board truely is inspiring! So many of us have tried and failed in the past, but no more. Failure is not an option. In fact, you will never hear anyone say those words henceforth. We are committed and will pick you up when you fall, and celebrate you and your successes! (Geeez, I sound like a drill sgt. Must be watching too much O.I.F. coverage.;) ) Nice to have you!

Keep the Faith!

Welcome!!! I LOVE your screenname!!!! :)

So glad you decided to join us. This board is addicting (but better than being addicted to food!) ;)

No good treadmill advice, sorry! I know there are a few people who use a treadmill though, so hopefully someone will come along with a suggestion for you!

Good luck and hope to see you posting often!

About treadmills:
It really depends on how much you want to lose. Having "been there, done that", I can tell you, you get what you pay for. The cheaper machines are prone to disrepair, and they usually have a weight limit of <300 lbs max. When we got ours, DH was about 325, and it was broken in 6 months. Those machines are really for people who are in maintenance mode. Heavy duty models are more dependable and can accomodate a larger person, but they are around 2,000 and up. (We were thinking of replacing ours with a heavy duty model, since ours is broken again, and found we would likely spend about 3500! We joined the Y instead {at 500/year membership, my treadmill would take 7 years to pay for itself, plus they maintain the equipment, store it, and have more than one type of machine.}, and will have our lightweight fixed for maintenance when we get to that point.)

As far as features go, that also depends on what your usage will be. Pulse guided programs are nice, but that feature, even on the ones at the gym, can be undependable. My strongest recommendation is to get a folding model, so there is less surface area to dust off!

I don't mean to try to discourage you from making the purchase, just make sure you get one that will work for you. Maybe you could visit gyms on a guest status, and see what works for you. Also, consider other types of equipment. I really love the elliptical trainer. Nativetxn has one. Maybe she could share her opinion on that with you.

Whatever you decide, good luck and visit often!

Keep the Faith!

Welcome Crazyme!

You will love the WISH board, everyone here is so supportive and always has encouraging words!! :) Jump right in and start posting away, it is always great to have new people join us! :)

I bought a Nordic Track in Sears in October and I'm really happy with it. I had a proform before that and it was just O.K. ..kind of sluggish after a year or so with belt problems. I think NT is a much sturdier treadmill and it folds up to save room.
Congratulations on your decision to get healthy:D

Thanks for the treadmill input. tlgoblue and Lynn CC, I really appreciate your opinions. I started researching treadmills, and what you both have said is right. The proform has a lousy warrenty, red flag right there for me. I did enjoy the treadmill when I was able to get to the gym, really the only machine I liked. Getting to the gym is just too difficult with the way my life is, so I really think having a treadmill here would work best.

tlgoblue, what is it about the elliptical trainer you like, and how do you feel it compares to the treadmill? I want something that my husband could use as well, he has a bad back so he needs to be careful not to use something that could throw it out.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I guess I should go buy a scale (I've never owned one)! I don't need to lose too much, maybe 10 pounds or so, but boy am I out of shape!

I also bought a NordicTrack at Sears a few years ago. We have been really happy with it. We bought the cheapest NT they had and I think the normal price is $999 but they often have it on sale for $799 then we waited for one of those 10% when you use your Sears card and we only paid $720 for it. About a year after we bought our my parents started looking at treadmills and they also bought a NT from Sears (although it was a more expensive one). They had some trouble with the first one right away (can't remember what it was) but Sears replaced it with a new one and they have not had trouble since.

The Proforms seemed much more cheaply made and I have never heard anything good about them except that they are cheaper.

Welcome to WISH! I am new here too, and yes you will find that that everyone is very cool, supportive, and funny (I always get a daily smile or giggle from those on this board). Also, everyone has wonderful advice.

I don't have a treadmill, as I prefer to do my walking outside (even in crappy weather), but it sounds like others are giving some good tips on that topic.

Welcome to W.I.S.H. crazyme5kids.!!

Sorry I have no advice on Treadmills. Though I am a firm believer you get what you pay for. I wouldn't purchase the cheapest treadmill and definitely not the most expensive one. They have so many gadgets on them that you won't need them or use them.

crazyme5kids it is wonderful to see you here on WISH. We have a wonderful support group here, it has helped me so much to visit WISH every day. I hope you can visit often too. I love getting to know WISHers better.

Grab your WISH challenge clipart. Wovenwonder has a terrific post telling you how to do that right HERE

Don't get too attached to it, though, I'm betting you will be trading up to that 5 or 10 pound loss clippie very soon.

Hey, blanq where is your WISH clipart? You aren't ashamed to admit you know us, are you?

Katholyn
