I am hoping to surprise my DW with the re-hitching ceremony at the Garden Grill in Epcot. Thanks to other posts on this board, I am now resonably certain that they are still doing this (albeit a bit modified).

I want to get a set of the Mickey ears top hat and veil hats (plus a regular Mickey ears hat for DS so he feels a part of it) and pull them out to surprise her as the ceremony starts. Since I want this whole thing to be a surprise, I can't order ahead and bring them along (she does the packing and I would never be able to squeeze in an unauthorized bag).

So, I am looking for the closest place to the Garden Grill where these are available. I am hoping to dash in and buy these just before we go into the restaurant. Can anyone help me here?

TIA!

I know mousegears has them...but not sure if there is anything closer..

When are you going??

Someone on the boards might be able to help you out.

How neat, dirkus, and congratulations!!! I would say Mousegears also, very close to the Land, right next to Innoventions Fountain. Cool!!

You can order them through http://giftsofalifetime.com and have them sent to your hotel (if you're staying on Disney property). They'll give them to you at the front desk when you check in. Just ask them to make sure they package it so that nobody can see what's in the bag.

We did this with some gifts for our girls on our last trip. It worked out perfectly!

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I have to pass on what I learned last week: there are no more rehitching ceremonies! I called WDW DINE last week to make PS at the GG for our trip, and I wanted to surprise my DH with a rehitching. The CM had to put me on hold, because she didn't see anything in her computer system about rehitching. When she came back, she told me she found out they discontinued the ceremony on September 21! :(

I just want to say how unbelievably sweet this idea is. Congratulations to you and your wife. ;)

Thanks for the replies!

GoofyFreak, we will be there the week right after Thanksgiving.

MsLefty, I thought about Gifts of a Lifetime but don't want to get them ahead of time in case the ceremony isn't happening anymore.

Stitch'sLilo, thanks for the input. I have heard that the ceremony is stopping and have tried everything that I can to get the real, true, official, 100% accurate answer to the question of whether it has really been discontinued. Unfortunately, no one seems to know. I have heard from one DIS'er that had the ceremony recently (but probably before the 9/21 date you mention). I have also heard from another DIS'er that called the Garden Grill restaurant last week and was told that it was still happening (but in a somewhat modified format -- probably without the kiss). There have been reports of CMs at Dining Reservations that don't have a clue, that say it definately is happening, and that say it definately is not happening! It is frustrating!! :earseek:

Anyway, I just called and made a PS for GG and the CM said no problem to my request for the re-hitching and that it was all set! I then tried to get transferred to the restaurant to find out for sure but the CM didn't know how to do that so went to ask a supervisor. When she came back, she also had the 9/21 discontinued story.

I figure I'll keep the PS and check with the restarant when I get to WDW. If they say it can happen, I'll then try to get the hats at mousegears just before the PS.

One thing the CM suggested as an alternative is the Holiday Sleigh ride that is offered. I might check into that. :earsboy:

Thanks for the help!

I just wanted to add that we couldn't get the re-hitching ceremony either. I had made PS for the Ice Cream Social 90 days out and had the rehitching request added then. When we got to the podium on 9-23, I mentioned it to the person checking us in. I was told that they had recently stopped doing that and got an apology.

I wish I had more hopeful news for you, but I wouldn't count on being able to do it.

I do recommend getting the ears anyway, though. We saw several couple with them on and they were getting lots of "Congratulations", etc. One couple got called to the front of a performance of British Invasion to do a wedding dance. It was really sweet.

Have a great time!
