I want to go back/Mama Guilt

I'm going SOLO!!:cool1: I"ll be at WDW June 23-28th and would love to meet up with some Dis'ers while I'm there. Certainly would love to meet John, Kevin & Kathy at the meet scheduled for the 26th.

The only DVC property I could get a room for the whole time is at Saratoga Springs. I'm not thrilled about that, but I'm trying to be positive and look at this as a new experience. I've never actually stayed there, so I shouldn't be so judgy. It can't be that bad, after at, it's at Disney World!

For the last 4 nights of my December solo trip, all I could get was SSR. I had never stayed there and I was disappointed that was all I could get. I even waitlisted for other studios - no luck. BUT, I ended up liking it very much. It's a beautiful resort with DTD just right there.

I knew not to rely on the buses and had a rental car instead - I love to control my own destiny. ;) I think alot of it depends on where your room is. I had asked for a quiet room in Congress Park with a nice view of DTD . . . and that's exactly what I got. It was in the farthest building at the end of the resort, on the bottom floor - and I had to walk through a long hallway to get to it. Now, I am not a cowardly person, but it just didn't feel safe for a solo female traveler . . . so I marched right back up to the front - thanked them profusely for giving me everything I thought I wanted - but could I be moved to a more centrally [safer] located room - high floor. She gave me Grandstand overlooking the clubhouse and I absolutely loved it. While I did give up some privacy and quiet, I felt so much safer being 'right in the middle' of the action and had a golf course view to the left and right.

While I still prefer AKV [theming], BWV [location] or BCV [location] over SSR, I would absolutely not hesitate or dread staying there in the future. :goodvibes

Glad you are doing your solo trip!

1. The mommy guilt never really goes away.
2. You will need this break after being a solo parent for almost 2 months, so enjoy it.
I have been a parent for quite some time, my oldest child will be 27 at the end of July. My youngest will turn 7 at the end of april, I know it's quite a spread. In the 27 years as a parent I have been away from my children overnight for a total of 27 days, and 18 of those overnighter's were for business. Having said that there is nothing better than taking a break to recharge, it's good for the body and soul.
I myself am about to take a big break, the biggest break I have ever had.
DH and I only had 4 days for a honeymoon away from children when we got married. So we are now doing a week away just the 2 of us. Well not exactly we are going on the ABD trip next week. :woohoo: I am just so excited about this. Right now I have no mommy guilt I might later, but after 27 years of parenting and almost 11 years of marriage I deserve this break.
Have a great time on your trip, SSR is not that bad don't sweat it. Enjoy your trip, and remember you are recHarging so you can be a better spouse and parent. I remember that first trip you took with Lillian last year, I was one of the people that told you to go. I tried to help you through that trip. I was happy it turned out for you and your little Lillian. So keep me posted! :)

That's fantastic! Shall I add you to the list for the meet? :goodvibes

We all work hard in our careers (SAHM counts), at home keeping things going and with our children, family and pets. So taking a break is a good thing- time to recharge and come back with full energy to take on those responsibilities with focus.

i left my 18month old at home with his dad for a full 7 days while i went off on Podcast cruise 1.0 (and a few days in WDW before). I went with my parents and cousin. I did miss my little boy terribly, but really enjoyed the break too. And to be honest, i don't think my little guy even realized i was gone. I mean, he was only 18 months, he doesn't have a good sense of time just yet. It was great and i am so glad i did it- plus it gave my DH a chance to experience being a 'single dad' for a week and bond more with our little guy. good experience all the way around.

so go for it! you'll be glad you did.

Thanks! I thought about the safety aspect too and I requested a room in the Springs area, highest floor possible. I may call back and request the Grandstand area instead. As I said, I've never stayed there, but from looking at the map, it seemed like the Springs was close to the main areas.

I also called and got waitlisted for BCV. I doubt it will happen, but I figured why not try at least!

Glad you are doing your solo trip!
Thanks! I'm super excited.

Ya, I'm getting that feeling. I feel guilty just being at work today because my kid isn't feeling well today.

Thanks so much for your support last year! That trip turned out to be a lot of fun and I appreciate the encouragement to do it. SHe did great on her 2nd trip to WDW last month, so I know this kid is going to be as much of a Disney fan as her parents are. :) I hope you have a great ABD trip! It sounds like a fantastic opportunity.

Woo! Yes, please do! :cool1:

Thank you so much. Lil will be 13 months old when I go away for 5 days and I have a feeling that I'll miss her more than she'll miss me. ;) I know she'll be in great hands with my spouse and it will give them a chance to just be together without my interference. I tend to take over when I'm home. Just one of those things that Mama does. :)

I am glad you are going!! We did our first trip away from my oldest daughter when she was 11 months. she had no clue and loved spending the time with her grandparents. I will admit that I called 3 times a day to check up on her and was excited when it was time to go home but you need the time.
I know mommy guilt is hard but you do need to take care of yourself. I am struggling with that now since I just had another child and just got back to work.
As for staying at Saratoga Springs- we stayed their last year for the 1st time and I liked it. We were in the Springs and it was very close to everything. If you stay at the grandstands- it can be a long walk to the main areas if you wanted to go get something at the resturant etc but it would be quiter.
