I want to camp, DH doesn't!

We are going down to WDW to stay at Pop in October. We are definitely staying at the resort bc my grandmother is going with us, and our TT is not large enough for us all to sleep in it.

However, I am dying to stay at the Fort! I actually tried to talk my DH into the Cabins, but he said no way to that.

His whole thing is, we can stay at a value resort for the same price as a full hook up. He also says he doesn't want to have to worry about pulling the TT down that far. (We live about 8.5 hours away, but would take longer pulling the TT.) We use to pull the TT with a Trailblazer, and it was really too small, but, we now have a Yukon XL, and it will pull much easier. By the way, he has pulled the camper 6.5 hours with a huge Ford truck, so I don't know what the issue is! LOL!

Anyway, so, give me the advantages that I can tell DH! You don't have to convince me, I'm convinced, he just sees it as work for him, not vacation.

Pop century is no match for FW. 1st of all when you bring your TT you don't have to unpack setting up does not take that long. 2nd of all you sleep in your own bed. Do you bike? Biking at FW is awesome, go in the evening on the trail between FW and Wilderness lodge and there is all kind of deer! FW is soooooo relaxing.There is alot to do there including the campfire and movie they have everynight and fishing. We have a MH and drive 6 hours, we have been camping there for 6 years (x multiple times a year) and will never stay at the resorts again! Everybody is so friendly you just can't go wrong. As far as transportation you have internal buses and ride a boat to MK. GOOD LUCK

I don't bike, but, I do run, so that would be a great place to run! I just think my DD's would also love all the "nature" and relaxing atmosphere.

Setting up doesn't take that long, and lets be honest, I do a lot of it! (All but hooking up the cords and tubes outside.)

Do you find yourself cooking mostly, or do you eat out a lot. That is my only concern, cleaning up after meals is not always fun....

Also, I am confused, do we have to take our gray water somewhere, or are the "full hook ups" sites that we don't have to tote the poo? (My Dh's words on that one!) Because we have a Yukon now, we wouldn't have anywhere to haul our poo hauler....

Tell your DH that you will not really be spending the same. Because you will have to pay outrageous prices for the food there. And not to mention i have heard that the those "Value" resorts are like cheap motels.

I remember staying at a Moderate and the noise outside was loud as we overlooked a so called quiet pool. Kids were playing untill midnight. As far as meals go we usually do just breakfast, easy cleanup. I always figured its vacation time and you shouldnt have to bother with cooking and cleaning...
The cost can be cheaper with a AAA discount, we just got back from April and payed $ 77.00 a night for a Preminum site..

We were at the fort for 6 days thru Memorial Day, and never left the campground once! We enjoyed the quiet, relaxing atmosphere, friendly neighbors, biking, riding our golf cart and all the things the fort has to offer. I could never sit in a hotel room for that long! It's great to enjoy the outdoors, while still having my home on wheels (my bed, my bathroom!) Tell hubby to try it once, I highly doubt he will be disappointed! There really is no other place like it. We do cook a lot in the rv but mostly by crock pot (with liners) the grill, and/or microwave, so cleanup is minimum.

Think about location as well. You can watch the MK fireworks from the beach at the Fort...

As others have said, just the cooking alone will save some money. IMO eating every meal out (unless you're on the dining plan) is a waste. Usually just my daughter and I go to Disney and if we don't make food at the camper I shell out a lot for food.

If you make and freeze some dishes this saves time. I usually take my crock pot and make a roast or casseroles of some sort. Also making burgers on the grill is a good meal as well. I buy the already made potato salad and other side dishes from the deli. You'd be surprised at the savings you will have when it costs you $20 for a complete meal rather than per person. This leaves us $$$ to go to a nice restaurant.

He looked through a lot of pictures and such with me last night, so we shall see.

Honestly, I believe his biggest concern is pulling the TT that far. He reminded me about us going to Gulf Shores and blowing a tire on the TT bc we were driving too fast (so my dad says) and what a huge pain that was. He also talks about how much time it would add to us actually getting to WDW. If we fly we are there within 2 to 4 hours, if we drive 8.5 to 9, and if we pull the camper who knows how long. Ugh!

Again, we shall see, I know I have some time to think about this, and get him on board. He said if I really want too, he will do it.

Pulling the TT shouldn't effect your travel time much if any. I understand the convienience of flying but I would think driving would cost less and you would have a vehicle. We always take food and drinks but cooking every meal depends on different situations. You may not feel up to running back to the TT for lunch but lunch is not that expensive in the parks. Plan easy meals such as the crockpot recipies and grilling (yumm). Make him a great grilled steak dinner for 1\4 the price of any restraunt! If he enjoys adult beverages they are much cheaper from the convinience of your TT. Ask him what other concerns he has and we will try and put his mind at ease. Once he stays at the Fort he will be hooked.

Our number one reason is you don't have to go to bed when everyone else does - it's great cause my DS can go to sleep inside ( we are staying in a cabin this visit but same with our popup) we can sit outside and enjoy the night air, play a game of cards, sit relax and talk about the day and not disturb him from getting a good night sleep!!!

That's totally worth it to us instead of being cooped up in a motel room all together - last time we did that my husband and i sat in the bathroom and played cards on the floor and we had to whisper- super uncomfortable!!!

Tell your husband that a trip to the Fort is cheaper than a divorce!

Also what may be the main reason..... Since you're going in October, the other campers at the Fort will be going all out decorating for Halloween. Not sure the exact dates you're going, but we have gone in October for the last 8 years, and this has been our most favorite time of year to camp. This time of the year is AWESOME. You're just not gonna get this at any hotel.....

Go back and search for halloween posts from the past and look at the pictures that have been posted and you will get the idea...

With a family of 4, the money we save on food alone allows us to stay extra nights! In fact, our 2 week trips end up costing around the same as my cousins 1 week trip! Who do you think is happier when one is making the long drive home and the other still has another week at WDW ahead of her? Me Me Me!

You live 8.5 hours away from the Fort and you live in GA? We must practically be neighbors. We're just across the Savannah River in SC and our drive is around the same. Usually pulling the TT it takes around 9-10 hours, but last year we somehow made it in 8.5 in spite of towing....and with two kids to boot!

We blew a tire last year, it wasn't the greatest thing, but it wasn't too bad. Cost us about a half an hour. Still worth it! After hubby's first stay at FW he NEVER wants to do Disney any other way. If you can just get him there once........the "Magic" will do the convincing for you. As many have already said, there's nothing like stepping out into the fresh air, sitting under the awning w/a cuppa coffee while the kids are still in bed in the morning or after they've gone to bed at night! My favorite time under the awning is during a good rain storm! The kids love that one too! Bikes, golf carts, playgrounds, fishing, exploring, petting zoo, swimming pool w/a slide and on and on and on....Can't beat it!

Now that is soooo NOT my idea of fun....cards on the bathroom floor eyelevel with the throne! This must be the greatest argument for staying at the Fort that I have EVER heard!

You know....sometimes you have to lose a battle in order to win the war. Pop Century is cute, but the rooms are very small and it is a noisy place. Just this one time, let him win this battle & stay at Pop. While you're there, after about the 2nd day, go visit the Fort. Don't say anything sarcastic about "we could be enjoying this...." Every so often heave a big sigh & get this dreamy, wanton look on your face. Ride a bus to Settlement to get a drink and sit on the porch awhile. Keep making those "isn't this the most relaxing place on earth" and "it is so peaceful and beautiful here". If my hunch is right after all of that, your DH will never want to stay in a resort again.

The "flat tire" and "takes longer" is simply B.S. You can get a flat tire on any vehicle, not just the trailer and it may take an extra hour to pull the trailer so "Whoop Dee Do". Don't let him pull this crap over your eyes.

I stayed at the "POP" resort and it was VERY NOISY. Also, if I recall, some of the "value" resorts at Disney had or have some "Bed Bug" issues.

I would just TELL him that you are pulling the trailer and staying at the Fort, period.


PRO'S:

Your own sleeping facilities.

Less noise.

Option of cooking your own food.

Enjoying the outdoors.

Friendly neighbors.

Sitting outside with nature in the early a.m. enjoying fresh brewed coffee.

Far more activities in the campground than just the pool: Bike riding, Looping(with golf cart or bike), rent a canoe, fish, rent a boat, horseback riding, wagon ride, Hoop Dee Do Review, fireworks and electric light parade, campfire marshmellow roast with sing along and movie...in the outdoors and the best for last...the simple pleasure of doing nothing under your awning of the RV and sipping your beverage of choice.
