For years, I've used JC Penney's "home" brand of bath towel and they've been fine. But over the past year or so, I've noticed that they just aren't holding up like they used to. The ends shred, etc. (and I don't wash towels dailey. We use them for 3 or 4 days before I do a load of towels).

I bought Nate Burkus brand from Linen & Things when they were going out of business and they held up a little better, but still have some end shredding.

I also tend to stick with cream color because they don't "shed" the color all over. I have tried chocolate brown towels, but end up with brown "shed" all over myself when I dry off.

Does anyone have a brand of towel that they love? That holds up, doesn't shed or shred? I really don't care about the price at this point, I just want some nice towels!

I still have the towels I took to college. They are thin but never shredded. In the last 20 years, I have not found a single brand of towel that did not ultimately get tattered. Good luck. I just cut the strings off for a while then delegate them to the boy bathroom where no one cares about their towels, lol! I have not experienced towels leaving lint on me though. I usually shop for a while looking for absorbency and a sale.

I have had very good luck with the towels at Target. I haven't had issues with them shredding. If you buy the more velour type they will shred more. Stick with the looped cotton ones.

Abyss - best towel from Wall Street Journal and I think Oprah has mentioned them before too.

They sell them at Bloomingdales. They are amazing.

I have been purchasing the "Big One" brand from Kohls and been very happy with them. And they are inexpensive enough that replacing them isn't a big deal....although in all honesty I have some that are probably 10 years old and still in good condition....maybe a little faded, but that's because I use bleach in them occasionally and they were a light yellow to start with.

The Restoration Hardware towels are amazing. I have a house full of them. If you have a store nearby, it is well worth a visit. They often have a fall bath sale too, which makes them a little cheaper.

We have them in dark colors (navy, chocolate, dark sage) and have never had a shedding problem. We've had the navy ones for 6 years and the other colors for 4, and they're like brand new.

Don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets with any towels, it ruins them. I got a whole talk and flyer when I bought the towels about it!

We bought the JC Penney Masterpiece towels for years.
2 years ago we purchased the Vera Wang towels at Kohls. We got them in white (so I can bleach them). They still look new, they are still big and fluffy and they have outlasted the Ralph Lauren towels from Macys we bought at about the same time. The Ralph Lauren bath sheets have snagged and in general look and feel cruddy. The Vera's still look new. We love them!

I do use fabric softener, I personally never did until I bought these, but it keeps them nice and soft.

Have to say I am very happy with my Charisma towels from Costco. Giant and fluffy, we've had them for over a year and they are still like new. Plus you can't beat the price.

I was just about to mention my Costco towels as well but I could not remember the brand name. Those towels are great!

I splurged and got some Pottery Barn towels about 5 years ago, because they matched the bathroom perfectly. Those are the towels the whole family gravitates towards using. They're thick and soft, they've never pilled and they still look brand new. I normally would not blow that kind of money on one towel, but I'm glad someone gave me a gift card and I chose them.

I agree about the Costco towels, also couldn't remember the name. Have had them over a year and are big & fluffy! I love them -

Speaking of Costco towels:

Costco sells a bundle pack of Martex towels. They only come in white and are about $19.99 for the 6 pack. Sometimes they have a coupon. Anyway, I bought these for my DD last year before she went to school. When I washed them they sort of fluffed up and felt good. I was surprised how well they held up. I bought myself some and have been using them at home and they are a really great, nice feeling basic towel.

We love our Ralph Lauren towels. I think we bought them at Macy's-- we've had them for two years and they're still super plush.

OP here! Thanks for all the suggestions. I"m going to make a list and check them ALL out :)

ITA-we love those towels!

I just checked out the Bloomingdales website for the Abyss towels. All I can say is WOW, maybe when the kids leave home I could find it in my heart to spend $75 each on a bath towel, but after seeing the way my kids treat bath towels, I would die everytime I saw one crumbled on the bathroom floor!

Until they leave home I will stick to the Big Ones I can get on sale at Kohls for under $10 each!

Kohl's "Luxury Collection" towels are the best moderate-price ones I've found. They're $19.99 regular price, but you can always find a deal at Kohl's. I paid about $8 each for the ones I have. My DH and have them in our bathroom and have been very pleased.

The "Big One" is not bad for a cheaper towel. It's what both my boys have taken to college and what my sons use in their bathroom. You can often get them for under $5. They are significantly thinner and somewhat smaller than the "Luxury Collection" ones, though.

I love the Vera Wang towels at Kohl's "Simply Vera" is what they are called. They are the best ones that I have ever owned.
