Is it too much to ask to get a happy, cute, fun movie in the theaters for little kids? Preferably with a pretty girl/princess in it? princess:

Seems like every kids movie, Disney or otherwise, that has come out in the past few years has not fit the bill for my little girl. With the exception of Curious George. Just went to see The Wild this weekend and what is up with all that wildebeest stuff? I'm sorry, but nasty looking wildebeests having cult-like things inside a volcano is not fun for a little one. Lion King II is awfully dark-themed too. She doesn't mind the occasional villian but we like the general feeling of a movie to be a little lighter.

So when is a little girl movie going to come out? Disney hasn't done an African princess yet, they've got one from almost every other continent, isn't it time? I want another princess!

From what I saw at the animation station at MGM it appears as though a Rapunzel movie is coming in 2009, I hope it actually comes true as they are advertising in there.

I agree with you. I'd love to see another movie that was as big as The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. :thumbsup2

The simple majesty of movies like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Mermaid are things of the past, thanks to Disney's insistence on moving to purely CGI formats. I'm sorry, but you just can't do the same things in CGI that you can with the classic, hand-drawn animation of those movies. Toy Story was great, no question. But great as it was, it didn't have quite the same "magic" that those other films did.

I'm hoping that the new head of Disney's animation department will change Eisner's idiotic policy, but I'm not holding my breath. The simple fact is that it really is more expensive to produce a fully hand-drawn feature film. My opinion on that, howqever, is that you get what you pay for. So long as Disney insists on going with the cheapest option, technology will always win out over art.
