I want a tattoo

We all have our own opinions regarding tattoos....I hated them for a long time, but my opinions changed and now at age 50 I have one!! and am planning my 2nd one soon! At this stage of life, it's my turn to break bad and I don't care what anyone thinks!! As I told my dd's it'll give the nurses something to talk about when they put me in the home..... this one is Tink and my next one will be Jovi related........I thought long and hard before making the decision, but I love it and have no regrets.....If that is what you really want...go for it!!! Here's my right leg.....

Don't do it!! Its just a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

Ah geez! I have 5 tramp-stamp permanent reminders of 5 permanent feelings. I love love love all of them (I posted them awhile back - including a DisneyQuest Mickey head....)

I'm a stamped tramp. :thumbsup2

Flame me if you must but I think of them as "tramp stamps".

Ha! Thats funny, I have a few tatoos and I'm as far from a tramp as they come. I've been with my husband and only my husband. We started dating as children. I didn't get my first tatoo until I was 28 years old and I don't regret it.

You have every right to not like tatoos but to say something like "tramp stamps" is a very uneducated and outright wrong statement.

Looks like we have two things in common. I have a tink tattoo too and JBJ and Richie both make me weak in the knees. Going to see them July 15 in Philly. Can't wait for the Meadowland dates to be announced.

I'm a tramp! I never knew it, but my tattoos are proof!!! LOL.

A good tattoo is a piece of art. Not all artisits should be using a needle, some should be back in art school.

Not every one likes them, and that is fine, but to say that I am a tramp because I have them is a bit overboards. However, I consider the source.

"Tramp Stamp"--how clever--it even rhymes!

There are some temporary feelings I wouldn't mind branding myself with permanently.

I like the 2nd Pooh, the one sitting down. I am thinking of getting one for my 40th in December. I like the artistic Mickey Head that Mickeyfan1 has under their name.

I love my "Tramp Stamp"!! I got my 1st tat last year at the age of 42. And to top off my "Trampness" it is on my lower back! LOL I am now looking for art for my next tat. DH had 2 tats and 1 of them really shows how trampy I am. His tat is a well known flash art piece of a 1940's nude "bomber pin-up girl" and she looks like me.

I understand people who do not like tattoos, but it is my body that I am putting ink on and it really is my decision and no one else's. And as for what will I think about it when I am 80? I am sure I will remember how much I liked it when I was young and I am sure I will still like it.

A couple of things from me....

First 'Tramp Stamp' is only slang for a lower back tattoo. It doesn't apply to any other location. (and no, I am not calling anyone a tramp...I am just teaching the correct vernacular ;) )

Second, I am someone who wishes I didn't have my tattoos. I have said this on many many threads here on the DIS. All 3 are Disney. All 3 are characters I still love love love. BUT, tattoos are so commonplace now. Everyone and their mom has them. Also, there are times when I'd like to wear a dress or shorts or a tank top without showing them off. JMO. If you want one, by all means, get one.

I have always wanted a small yellow rose on the inside of my ankle but have been too chicken to get it.

Get it!!! Its not that bad - I swear!!!! Super-Dooper Girl Scout Honor swear! :thumbsup2

For anyone thats scared of the pain its really not that bad!! I would compare it to if you have a sunburn and someone scratches it. My best friend who has one says that it feels like a dog scratching your leg. Its more of an annoying pain than intense pain. Also you would not even think of it as a needle. Its nothing like the needle you would use to get a shot! If you want one go for it!

Oh and I have a tattoo on my lower back. But atleast I'm a tramp that has a job, pays my own credit card and cell phone bill and got a 3.6 GPA last semester at UNH

It really didnt hurt to get my tattoo - the laser treatments to get the tiny little rose on my ankle removed however was worse than labor pain - brownie girl pinkie swear. :teeth:

Its a personal decision, and also a mighty tough one to reverse! :sad2:

The term tramp stamp is harsh, but to demonstrate how my once childish fondness of tattoos has done a complete 180, I endured months of agonizing, expensive treatment to remove it - ouch

I know OP didnt start this to be a tattoo controversy, but I wish someone had talked me out of getting mine. :guilty:

While I do understand that you are entitled to your opinion and respect that, I think that the word tramp is alittle harsh. I am considering getting one and I am as far from a tramp as you can get. Maybe just saying that you don't think it is a good idea or you just don't like them would be a better way of saying it without degrading anyone. Please don't think I am flaming you, I'm not.

I wouldn't think for a moment that you were a tramp, nor would I think that of the OP. That doesn't change the fact that tramp stamp pops into my head when I see a tattoo. A woman in her late 50's attended DS graduation a few years ago and sat in front of me. She had a HUGE Harley Davidson tattoo right in between her shoulder blades and she was wearing a tank top type neckline dress. At that age, after having it for probably 20 years, there was absolutely nothing attractive about the big black blotches with fading colors probably stretching in places that it didn't originally. The long red rose, stem and all that went from her outer calf to her ankle was equally disgusting. I definately question someone's judgement when they disfigure themselves that way.

For the people here who've had laser removal, would you share how much it costs/how long it took to go away/is it gone completely???

Sorry, don't mean to hijack, but I am soooo ready to get rid of these things. :goodvibes

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: "Very uneducated" I guess I am. Briarmom has educated me and now I know that a tramp stamp is a lower back tatoo. Glad we got that cleared up. As for outright wrong? Nope, that's what lower back tatoos are. :rotfl:

I have heard, although I don't know from experience, that the average tattoo is between $1500 to $2000 to remove. I do know that black is the easiest color to remove, while greens and yellows are hard, as well as red.

well, you must just breathe a sigh of relief every night that you don't have to associate with people like that. :thumbsup2

Ugh, women with tattoos...what is this world coming to?:sad2:

I wasn't going to interject, but surely Dawn, you do know that tattooing originated from Polynesia and the maritimers (sailors, etc.) adopted the art form and brought it to the Western world, right? Polynesian women have been known to get tattoos on certain parts of their bodies. I see no problem with women getting tattoos.

To me it stands for co-opting an art from from a native people and making it part of our contemporary world. I really have a problem when people are using Asian words (I am part Asian) as tattoos which don't usually translate well or aren't gramatically correct. That's really bad.

Women have been doing this for ages. :wizard:
