I want a DO-OVER!

Have you ever had one of THOSE trips? We did and got back last week from it. It was our second trip to Disney. We first visited last year and it was wonderful and magical. I am not sure what I expected the second time, but it just didn’t have the same feel. I left wondering how people visit WDW multiple times a year, or even yearly! I was tired of the smiles and was grumpy!

The trip started out bumpy as we had to leave for the city we were flying out of a day early because of an impending snow storm. Good thing we did or we never would have made the drive the next day. On the way to the Twin cities, DD, age 6, is screaming in pain. Yes, it is 10pm at night and she has a raging ear infection. Just what you want when you are going to fly on a plane in a little over 24 hours. Luckily, I was able to make some phone calls and get her some antibiotics and ear drops early the next morning. The first few days of the trip were rough as her eardrum ruptured and she was tired and grumpy. I would be too.

So, we made it to Orlando safely. Let the vacation begin! We get to our resort and there is an issue. Our reservation has been lost somehow. It took over an hour to sort it out….I was really frustrated. No idea what happened as they wouldn’t tell me. Just lots of whispering and glances over to us going on. The kids lost it and I was about to lose my patience too. They were hungry and I wish they would have told us it would be so long…I would have taken them to get something to eat as they were starving. Not a great way to start our trip.

Finally, we got our room. Everything seems good to go. No, it wasn’t. When they re-booked us, they forgot to click something that would attach our fast passes to the new bands they had to issue. So, we were rejected in the parks. Worked it out…but had to return to the hotel and wait another 45 minutes to get it fixed. Got it fixed. Well, after we got that settled, we went to the dining center to get a snack and our PIN did not work. Whatever she did to fix the fast passes, wiped out our PIN. ARRRGGGHHH. The concierge was now closed so we had to wait till morning to get it fixed. Spent another 45 minutes in line the next morning getting the PIN number issue fixed.

Finally, all of our reservation and magic band/pin issues were resolved. They did give us 3 anytime/anywhere fast passes, so that was nice. That came in handy at Epcot.

I am not sure who is predicting crowds for early February, but the parks were crowded. We chose February because I dislike huge crowds. It was crowded! Plus, the weather was really crappy. Cold and rainy for most of our trip. I guess I did not prepare for that mentally. We had 70’s and sunny all of our trip last year. We were coming from the Polar Vortex and I was ready for some sun and heat. :(

My other issue was rude guests. How do you deal with them? I just have no patience for rude behavior. People were stopping in the middle of a walkway suddenly, sitting on stairways in the parks, leaving trash on tables when they should clean up, pushing and shoving at Wishes, etc, etc. I tried to block it out, but I wanted to scream. My biggest issue was the large tour groups who had no manners. Seriously, 50 girls blocking an entrance to a ride. They could care less if you wanted to get through.

I know WDW is not for everyone. I am starting to think it is not for me…but I loved it my first visit. I could not wait to go back this year. How do you block out all the crowds and rude behavior and not let it spoil your good time? At one point, I had to tell a man to please stop shoving his arm in my face to get a picture of his kids…he was that close to me. He ignored me and kept doing it. This was during a parade. The woman on the other side of him asked him to turn his flash off…he did not listen to her. A cast member had to ask him to turn it off. He ignored her. So rude.

I guess our trip did not start off on a good note and we never got into a great groove. We did have fun, don’t get me wrong. Lots of great memories. But, I want a do-over! Of course, the day we left, it was 73 and sunny! I am trying to talk DH into a Disney cruise for next year. I need something different maybe. Thanks for letting me vent!!

Can relate completely. We've had 3 of those in a row, and every time we rebook and come home feeling the same thing. So this year trying something new.

We must have been there the same week! Crummy weather, unexpected huge crowds, rude tour groups...I was over it! Then it rained the last 3 days and I wanted to cry! I can take cooler temps or an afternoon shower or storm, but the constant drizzle sucks! I know obviously no one can control the weather but looking at nothing but sunshine and 70's there since the day we left makes me a little sad. Has anyone figured out why it was so crowded? We go the first week in Feb every year and it has never been so crowded and wait times have never been so long. We're talking 15 min waits for the tomorrowland transit authority, 50 min for buzz lightyear, 20 minutes for stitch!! Rides that I have never waited for before. There are always cheerleaders and tour groups there at this time but I just felt their presence a whole lot more this trip. Overall it was disappointing.

Yes, the constant drizzle is what was horrible. It never let up on the days it rained. And it was chilly.

The cheerleaders did not really bug me. It was other tour groups. While I understand there are different cultural behaviors, some behaviors were downright rude. I am over it and writing this post helped! Glad I wasn't the only one that felt the beginning of February was crazy there!

Yeah, it was really crowded towards the end of January too. Glad I wasn't imagining things -- I couldn't figure out if I was expecting the wrong thing or what. Now I'm convinced: it was packed.

We also had the bad weather but at least it didn't rain.

UCA High School Nationals were Feb 8th and 9th...:cheer2:

I noticed that they & their gigantic groups were in the parks still up till the 11th (i left on the 12th.) I told my husband "don't they need to get back to school"?! ugh.

We just had our first trip where we didn't really "feel the magic." People have become so self-centered and un-caring. It's almost scary to go out in public anymore. They text & drive, drink & drive and take our lives into their own hands and if you call them out on it, they think you're the crazy one. Sorry you had this experience.

I was MUCH busier than the crowd calender said this last week too. My guess is last minute visitors to escape the snow that came in.

In fact, after finishing MK, I went ahead and paid for Touring Plans and it really helped for the way we "tour" the parks.

My trip on the whole was pretty good last year, but we did run into some instances of rude people. While waiting on 7DMT line (yes, I know, it's always a long line and crowded!), people behind us kept trying to cut us! It was pretty much whenever we'd go around a corner, they'd try to get to the inside or outside and cut. My friends and I had to make a wall so they couldn't continue! It was so frustrating!

I think we were lucky with our last trip. Everything went perfect, no meltdowns and all plans went smoothly. But I could Easily see how a less than perfect trip could happen, and I saw it all around me, families yelling at each other yelling at workers, etc. You could tell they were not having that perfect family vaca. Im sure the more we go we will run into "worse trips" at that point I would take a year or 2 off and try something different, like Florida to the beaches or a cruise, something more relaxing. I did notice during parades and fireworks though people do try to come in at the last minute and shove you out of the way, that was my biggest pet peeve.

We went in 2006 and 2007 at christmas no less and had a wonderful time then we we couldn't go again until 2012 we went again at christmas had a horrible time we drive from michigan I kid you not it took longer that trip then the other two trips we stopped every hour on the hour unbeknownst to me I was getting sick I woke up day to travel home I was so sick it was horrible weather all the way home and said if I never went back to Disney it would be too soon lol but we went back last year at christmas and it was the best trip ever and looking forward to this Christmas going again so just need a break and then a redo
