"I Wanna See My Castle!" October 2013 TR *COMPLETE* **NEW TR LINK!!** 7/3

Day 5 Continued: Saturday October 26th

When I left off, we had come to a fork in the road, so to speak. The line for Sorcerer Mickey had grown atrociously long in the time we had left to go search for something else to do, none of the shows we wanted to see were starting anytime soon, and we were just standing in the middle of the animation building trying to figure out where to go next.

Then, we noticed the brand new (ish) meet & greet area for Minnie right there beside us, with only one family in line for the start of her meets at around 10 am. Originally when I'd heard about this new meet & greet opening, I wasn't all that worried about checking it out. I figured we'd see Minnie somewhere else during the week, maybe Pete's Silly Sideshow or something. But this was new, there was no line, and we were right there, so why not?

The queue is simple, just some chains winding back and forth, but there are some cute movie posters on the walls to check out while you wait.

While we were waiting, we saw Sorcerer Mickey pass by on the way to greet his first guests of the morning!

After a wait of just a few short minutes, we were led into Minnie's ADORABLE dressing room to meet her! As we walked in, I was suddenly really excited we had decided to meet her here (I think this ended up being our only encounter with Minnie for the week, anyway!). Everything is so perfectly Minnie in there! There are sparkles everywhere, including her dress, and everything is just so girly and fancy.

As we were walking in and I was videotaping, the mom in the family behind me started asking about DS's autograph book. That thing really got a lot of attention! Thanks to all the lovely DISboarders who made it possible with their design talent & willingness to share, because I certainly couldn't have made it all on my own!

(Whose TR was I just reading about their dad bending down to pose with all the characters? JessM?? See, I do it too!)

05-051 by disneymom1024, on Flickr
I should have been keeping a tally of all the high 5's this kid got from the characters!

We spent a few more minutes letting DS run around the animation building, and as a result, he found this movie poster for Planes, which got him very excited! This was the first movie he ever saw in theaters, and he just loves Dusty Crophopper and the gang!

05-052 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

After leaving Minnie's dressing room, we decided that while we were on a character hunt we might as well go over and meet Mike & Sulley. Their meet area had been overtaken by Monsters U, which was fun for DH and I to check out since we had seen the movie and loved it. We had ended up not taking DS with us to see it in theaters because we didn't think he'd sit through it. But he did get the movie on Blu Ray from Santa this year, so he has since seen it and enjoyed it.

We were next in line when Mike & Sulley had to go in for a break. It was actually pretty funny, because Sulley was grabbing the wall and shaking his head vigorously that he didn't want to leave. The PP photographer kept telling him that he needed to go, and eventually he accepted defeat. He dropped his head and walked off slowly, dragging his huge hands behind him. It was hilarious! He got a collective "Awwww!" from the crowd as he made his way off.

While we waited, DH got a picture of the backdrop unobstructed.

05-062 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Soon enough, they were coming back out!

05-063 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

DS had been asking and asking if it was his turn yet, so when they came back out and I told him it was finally his turn, he went running out to see them. First he came to Mike, who gets an awkward side hug because he is really REALLY awkward to hug!

Day 5 Continued: Saturday October 26th

After hugs, DS was ready to pose for a picture and gave us his best Scarer roar!

05-068 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

05-069 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Then DH and I jumped in for a picture, and DS wanted us all to hold up a 3 for his birthday.

After leaving the meet & greet with Mike & Sulley, we decided to split up for a moment. It was about 10:50 by that point and we had an early lunch ADR for Sci-Fi. I went over to the restaurant to get us checked in while DH went to get us some FP's for Tower of Terror. Apparently while he was gone, he caught sight of some streetmosphere happening as well.

05-072 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

05-073 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Within just a few minutes, he was back hanging out with DS and I outside of the restaurant while we waited for our name to be called.

05-076 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Pretty much as soon as they started seating people at 11 am, we were called in and brought to one of the cars to sit. We got a booster for DS and all 3 squeezed into the front seat with DS all the way to the inside, me in the middle, and DH on the edge. DH had a lot of fun photographing the inside of the restaurant this time!

Family selfie!

DS was not too interested in the movie trailers, so we pulled out DH's old phone loaded up with movies and he watched Cars on it while we waited for our food to arrive. DH went with the Picnic Burger again, which is a hamburger topped with a hot dog, while I went with a plain old cheeseburger. DS had the kids macaroni & cheese with a side of goldfish crackers.

The Picnic Burger

Some of you may have read Lia's TR from (I think?) her May birthday trip when she went to Sci-Fi and encountered a hilarious server who insisted on taking a million pictures of them and kept getting the "perfect shot" with certain scenes going on on the screen. If you didn't, you might not realize that this guy was pretty frenetic and, let's face it, a little crazy. Well, he wasn't our server, but he was serving the table in front of us. The entire time, I kept wondering why this family wanted SO MANY PICTURES of themselves eating! It boggles the mind, really. But when I read Lia's experience, I realized it wasn't the family, it was the CM! So while he wasn't taking millions of photos of us eating, he was letting them know when certain key moments would be coming up on screen, so DH used him as a reference to take those photos himself.

Such as...

Mickey in a spacesuit

05-082 by disneymom1024, on Flickr
The Sci-Fi logo

05-083 by disneymom1024, on Flickr
And Walt Disney himself!

All in all, it was kind of hilarious watching this guy run around and take pictures of them from every angle, and then sometimes just stand there with the camera ready while the guests sat there smiling for what felt like forever waiting for those images to pop up on the screen behind them. I'm sure they just wanted to eat their food while it was still hot! Speaking of which, we also ate our food pretty quickly and got ourselves out of there. It was nearing time to leave for DS's afternoon nap, but we wanted to get in a couple more things before we had to make our exit! Most importantly, we wanted to get into the next Disney Jr. Live on Stage show at 12:10. After a quick bathroom break, we hustled back over to the animation courtyard and kept our fingers crossed that this show wouldn't get cancelled again!

UP NEXT: More DHS fun and a trip outside the bubble!

I love Minnie's M&G area so much!

Aww, Sulley is so adorable! That is so sweet that he didn't want to go.

Mike is definitely a tough character to interact with, just because he can only move his arms so much.

Haha, I loved hearing about that CM in Lia's report! That's too funny, and great that you were able to get the same pictures!

I don't know, there is just something so special about seeing the characters come out for their set. I love seeing that happen.

I am now so very bummed I missed this greet. I love Minnie and her backdrop is perfect.

I do love the Monsters U set up except for the fact that the regular Monsters set up never had any lines. I miss that, lol.

Wow, from someone who has never eaten there before, those are some of the best photos I've seen of Sci-Fi. Almost like being there.

Haha, so funny you saw that server. At least now I know she wasn't lying, lol.

Minnie's new meet and greet looks ADORABLE! I have to be honest here, I didn't even know she HAD a new meet and greet. So, good to know! Such cute pictures with Mike and Sulley, too!

Omg, that server at Sci-Fi... is that for real? That's just hilarious!

Good to see your review about Sci-Fi. We are eating there during our trip in June and I'll look for the amateur photog CM! Forewarned is forearmed! Keep up the great TR!

What an adorable Minnie meet and greet and I love the Monsters U pics too!

Super cute pics

Lunch sounds entertaining if nothing else, how funny about that CM!

It's really very cute, and so very MINNIE!

It was so funny seeing this humongous character shaking head so vigorously and holding onto the walls to not have to go in, and then finally admit defeat. :rotfl: Yeah, Mike is just a bit awkward with those arms...

It definitely worked out for us that the server was not pestering us to take pictures, but DH knew when to be ready on the camera shutter. :thumbsup2

I love it too! Almost like a celebrity on the red carpet. :rotfl:

It's a really adorable meeting area, and it's nice that Minnie has a fancy space all to herself now.

:rotfl: You are right about that!! It was one of the longer character lines we waited in, but still not terribly long (and still shorter than Sofia! :scared1:)

In case you didn't notice DH's Sci-Fi t-shirt, I'll point it out to demonstrate what a HUGE fan of Sci-Fi he is! So he was definitely excited to get such clear pictures inside his favorite restaurant when the rest have always come out too dark.

I was dying laughing as I read Lia's experience with him because I could picture it all happening SO CLEARLY in my mind after witnessing him myself!! I'll give him one thing, he is VERY energetic about his job!

I only knew about it from the boards, and I wasn't too terribly excited about it at the time. But it was SO adorable, I'm glad we checked it out!

Is that for real? is basically what I was thinking the entire time! So strange!!!

Good to see your review about Sci-Fi. We are eating there during our trip in June and I'll look for the amateur photog CM! Forewarned is forearmed! Keep up the great TR!

:lmao: That would be so funny if you saw him! He's definitely hard not to notice as he is racing around the car snapping the camera. Enjoy your meal! It's our favorite lunch spot in DHS. Thanks!! I'm off to check out your October TR! Based off of your plans in the first post, it doesn't look like our plans crossed any days, but I still love reading TRs from the same time we were there. :goodvibes

What an adorable Minnie meet and greet and I love the Monsters U pics too!

Super cute pics

Lunch sounds entertaining if nothing else, how funny about that CM!

Thanks! They were all super adorable that morning, so I'm glad we went a little character crazy and met them all.

He was pretty hilarious, although a little strange, to see in action! I was just more glad we were witnessing it vs. experiencing it first hand. :rotfl:

OMG - I hope I don't get that server at Sci-Fi! The last thing I need is someone running around trying to take tons of pictures of me. :rotfl2: But it would be fun to have someone point out all the best trailers on the screen.

Love your pictures from Sci-Fi. It looks so cool in there. I haven't been in there in about - hmmm 10 years, so it should be fun.

I absolutely love all the pictures of Paxton with Minnie and with Sully and Mike. I think he could just buried in all of Sully's fur.

Great update!

That Minnie meet and greet area is so cute! Where do Mike and Sulley meet? It's not in the animation building now is it? We met them a few years ago and I'm thinking it was back by the LMA show area. We didn't make it into the animation building though last May so I'm sure a lot has changed! All of the photo pass pictures turned out really cute.

I love Paxton's expression in the picture outside Sci Fi with that Goofy toy.
Your DH's pictures inside Sci Fi turned out really well! Your update reminds me that I didn't finish my Sci Fi update ;)

We saw that new Minnie meet and greet line and asked a CM what it was all about because the line was super short and we didn't have the patience to meet Ralph and Vanellope or Sorcerer Mickey! But I get a little nervous at M&Gs, of course, so we didn't go. The CM said that not many people knew what it was about and that it was a great way to get more one-on-one time with Minnie. Howard and I enjoyed your recap and the pictures because we forgot to look it up when we got home!

As always, great updates!

I love the movie posters outside of Minnie's M&G, especially the Minnie Poppins one! Actually I just love that greet in general, it's so adorable.

Cute pics with Mike & Sully!

Such a funny story about Sci Fi, at least it wasn't you guys that got him! And DH's pics of the restaurant came out so good!

But this was new, there was no line, and we were right there, so why not?
I think this is the first I've seen of this particular M&G. Seems like a great idea to me! Can't beat meeting a character with no line.

Everything is so perfectly Minnie in there! There are sparkles everywhere, including her dress, and everything is just so girly and fancy.
I'm sure DD will have about 500 pictures taken of her with Minnie here if DW has her way... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

While we waited, DH got a picture of the backdrop unobstructed.
Wow. I really like that! Hard to notice the detail with Sully standing in front of it in the other pictures!

DS was not too interested in the movie trailers, so we pulled out DH's old phone loaded up with movies and he watched Cars on it while we waited for our food to arrive.
Great idea... DW has an old smartphone sitting around somewhere. We might just need to load it up with some games and movies.

All in all, it was kind of hilarious watching this guy run around and take pictures of them from every angle, and then sometimes just stand there with the camera ready while the guests sat there smiling for what felt like forever waiting for those images to pop up on the screen behind them. Ok. Yeah. Neat pictures, but I'm not sure I'd have the patience to have him for my server. :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

I wish we could have seen Mike and Sulley in their Monsters U themes but they were refurbishing their meet and greet (aka tearing down the Monsters U setting) in January. Oh well. And you're right - Mike is kind of hard to give a decent hug. Bony is the word that comes to mind. :lmao:

I really need to make time to try the Picnic Burger at Sci Fi!

That's really neat that characters come outside of the park to meet guests before opening. Those dapper ducks are too cute! Darn that sun though!

That pic of Paxton with the thumbs up next to Lightning is perfection!

I just love those unplanned moments when "what to do next?" leads to the perfect choice! Your M&G with Minnie was adorable!::MinnieMo I had no idea that area existed... I went back and looked and it opened just two days before our trip. Her sparkly dress is fantastic and I'm sure that my girls would have loved it. I'm sad to have missed it.

Love the pics with Mike & Sulley too! :sulley:

You guys had such a fantastic morning in HS! When we were planning our trip last trip I was under the impression that there wasn't a whole lot to do at HS (besides the obvious TSM & Fantasmic)- not sure why I thought that :confused3 But we really ended up loving the park and we quickly realized that there is a ton to do!! I'm really looking forward to going back. :thumbsup2

I absolutely love all the pictures of Paxton with Minnie and with Sully and Mike. I think he could just buried in all of Sully's fur.

Great update!

We definitely got the better end of it in that DH knew when the good photo ops were coming, but we weren't having a million pictures taken of us while we were trying to eat. DH just kept the camera set up on the table and ready to go!

He definitely disappeared for a second when he went in for that hug with Sulley! :rotfl: I love how my kid is so raised on Disney he doesn't really bat an eye at some of those huge characters like Sulley and Baloo.

Your DH's pictures inside Sci Fi turned out really well! Your update reminds me that I didn't finish my Sci Fi update ;)

Mike & Sulley still meet in the same area you are thinking of back by LMA, they just rethemed it to Monsters U. The only big changes to the Animation building are the Wreck-It Ralph meet where they usually have the more current characters from movies, and the Minnie meet was put in where the computers used to be where you could see what character you were, etc.

I liked his expression in that one too! That's why I included such a random picture of him. That was some candy tube my MIL gave him that has the moving propellers so he wanted to carry that around all the time. He still plays with it, and he still has never realized there is candy inside. :rotfl:

We saw that new Minnie meet and greet line and asked a CM what it was all about because the line was super short and we didn't have the patience to meet Ralph and Vanellope or Sorcerer Mickey! I used to get nervous at character meets too, but having kids definitely changes that. You don't really need to have anything to say because the kids do all the "work." :goodvibes If you didn't know it was there, it's really easy to miss because the only part you can see from outside is the queue. Seems like they should have made it a little more obvious what it was!

Thanks!

The movie posters are so cute! I love when they do things like that with the main characters. :goodvibes

His pictures did come out the best he has ever gotten inside there, so thanks! I was definitely glad we didn't get that server. He was just a tad too enthusiastic for us!!

I think this is the first I've seen of this particular M&G. Seems like a great idea to me! Can't beat meeting a character with no line.

I'm sure DD will have about 500 pictures taken of her with Minnie here if DW has her way... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

It's on the newer side, and not much fuss was made about it when it first opened, so I'm not surprised many people didn't know it was there. I think I remember reading that it may eventually be FP+ only, which would be a real bummer.

I'm with your DW on this one. It's such a cute meeting area that if I had a cute little DD like yours, I'd want 500 pictures too!!! :lovestruc

Wow. I really like that! Hard to notice the detail with Sully standing in front of it in the other pictures!

It's very well done, but hard to see with that gigantic monster in front of it! So we were kind of lucky they went in for their break when they did.

Great idea... DW has an old smartphone sitting around somewhere. We might just need to load it up with some games and movies.

That's exactly what we did! DH had just upgraded his phone, so we loaded up his old android with movies and games for Paxton. He had puzzles he could do, coloring games, and movies when he just needed to chill out. Our Universal day after he only got that short nap and we weren't doing much but walking around after dinner, he rode around in the stroller watching Despicable Me 2. He definitely needed to decompress and focus on one thing instead of ALL the stuff going on around us in the park! We didn't use it as much as we thought we would, but it was nice to have when we needed it. He can be very loud, especially when he's bored, and those movie reels at Sci-Fi weren't cutting it as far as holding his interest!

Ok. Yeah. Neat pictures, but I'm not sure I'd have the patience to have him for my server. :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

:rotfl: ::yes::

I'm surprised they are already taking down the Monsters U overlay! It seems like they would have kept it that way for awhile longer since it's a more recent movie and Monsters Inc was so long ago. :confused3

DH swears by that picnic burger...

That's really neat that characters come outside of the park to meet guests before opening. Those dapper ducks are too cute! Darn that sun though!

The sun was a killer that morning! But it was really cool that they brought the characters out before opening. I have been wanted to meet Donald & Daisy dressed up like that for the past two trips and it never happened! So it was cool we got to do it with no wait and no park time used up. :thumbsup2

:sulley:

Isn't it?! So funny how he just did that on his own! :lmao:

I always try to go in with somewhat of a plan, but I don't like to have a minute-by-minute itinerary. And like you said, sometimes those "what to do next?" moments lead to something really awesome we might have otherwise skipped! Kind of like last year when we took him to meet the princesses for the first time and it was amazing.

The Minnie meet seems pretty permanent, so I'm sure it will be there by your next trip and you can check out her fabulous sparkly dress & dressing room!

We had a really hard time navigating DHS on our first trip with Paxton when he was only a year old. He didn't have the attention span for long shows or attractions, so that eliminated a LOT of things! We felt like he spent a lot of time in the stroller, and that was never a good thing because he'd get too bored. It was much easier to enjoy that park with him the next year when he was 2 and could sit through a little more! It's always been DH's and my 2nd favorite park after MK, so I'm glad we gave it another chance with DS so to speak on our 2012 trip. We realized we can spend a lot more time there now that he can make it through longer attractions! That's why it was the second park we chose for our short May trip when we only have 2 park days. It's great when you can find stuff your family can enjoy where you didn't expect it and open up a whole world of possibilities you didn't think you'd enjoy! We have still never taken him to Fantasmic, so we are hoping to do that this time around and have even more to do there!

I really had wanted to get another update in before this weekend, but this week totally got away from me! I worked 12 hour shifts Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday so that I could take the weekend off and not use my paid time off. Then yesterday, I had a big job interview for a position I have been wanting for about 2 years! They are opening an outpatient infusion center at our hospital for our pediatric hematology/oncology patients, and since first mention of it, I have wanted to work there! Now it's finally opening and they are going through the hiring process. I interview with the doctor running the center next week, so fingers crossed!

The reason I wanted to update before the weekend is that we are going to New Orleans for a long weekend of Mardi Gras fun! We should be leaving the house in the next few hours to check into our hotel just off of the parade route. We have parades tonight, all day tomorrow and Sunday, Monday night, and of course, Fat Tuesday. I'm so excited for our mini-vacation! I'll try to post some pictures from that when we get back, and then I should have a post from our trip. Look out for those probably on Friday since I will have to work for a couple of days as soon as we get back from our Mardi Gras weekend. I may post some pictures live from this weekend on Instagram, so if you aren't already, you can follow me there @disneymom1024

See ya real soon! party:

Best of luck on your interview!! :goodvibes And have a wonderful time on your mini vacay, sounds like it will be such fun!!

Good luck on the job interview and maybe we'll see you in NOLA...I'm sure it won't be TOOOO crowded the weekend before Fat Tuesday especially with Morpheus, Endymion and Bacchus this weekend!

Love the family selfie at sci-fi. Devyn has to have the The ipod/ my iphone at restaurants as well. He will get out of control if he has to just sit there and wait for food. I was just thinking about my next trip and How I really want to meet the characters in Hollywood studios more. We always have just enough time to do the attractions and a few characters but we always miss the ones in the animation building. The photos with Paxton with Mike and sully are just too cute!
Good luck on your interview! I have been going through the interview process myself lately and I know that for a job you really want it can be stressful. More so than usual. I know you will do well! I enjoyed all your madi gras pictures!
