to hold my luggage somewhat together, rather than locks. Is this ok with airport security? I figure they can get into it if they want to, but it at least gives me a little peace of mind that it may not pop open. I just wanted to check with the experts here before I head to the airport like that. Thanks!

Also, they now swell TSA approved locks that they can get into if they need them with a key if they need to but they give you a little added protection.

I use cable ties (get them at the Dollar Store) - no one can get into them unless they have scissors (which are not allowed through airport security), but if they need to inspect my luggage, they can cut them open, and I just retie them for the trip home. I usually pack my mini folding scissors in the front zipper pouch of our suitcase in the checked luggage so I can cut them open when I unpack.

I do the exact same thing and I have never had any problems. I have also used twisty ties.

What a great idea to use the zipties. Makes mental note to self.

CATSA does not allow any scissors, but TSA DOES allow scissors with blades of less than 4 inches.

To ensure that American readers understand that they are allowed on domestic flights within America...

We use cable ties, too. We pack scissors in our carry-ons and once we get our luggage, we just snip the ties.
