I *used* to like Rosie O'Donnell

I just finished watching it and that seemed like anger to me. I do know they don't go into these discussions totally cold, there's always some discussion before they come out. I think she came on angry. They all were going out their way not to set her off.

A little OT but good on Nichole for stepping right in and taking over for Whoopi when she broke down.

I am loving Nicole. She is a voice of reason I'm finding.

Rosie really upset Canadian's when they talked about the shooting we had at our Parliament buildings....she commented on something someone can't remember who that said it is called Wed. here. And Rosie went into a whole mental illness thing and shooting and that she had a point.

Nicole said we have to remember a man was shot and had a son. Said other things too and was very compassionate and Rosie just brought up people are shot in the U.S everyday and the whole nation doesn't morn. We have shooting all the time here in Toronto too but this was totally different and Nicole saw that.

I felt really indignant about that comment too!

Just another idiot celebrity who thinks their opinions are somehow meaningful and important simply because their job puts their face on the TV screen.

I used to like Whoopi, but she has this annoying habit of eating during the show and talking with her mouth full. Drives me crazy!

I don't normally watch the show, so I'm not sure how she normally behaves, but I caught it today while in the waiting room of my doctor's office.

To me, it looked like she was very upset and about to cry at any minute. I don't know her history (if she is a rape victim?) but it seemed very personal to her.

I didn't think badly of her after watching it, just that it seemed she was very emotional about it. Again, I don't watch the show, so don't know if she is always like that or not.

She has talked about being sexually abused in the past. I think whenever the topic of rape or sexual abuse comes up we're going to see her expressing very strong emotions.

Rosie has been annoying for the past 10 years.

Much longer than that really. I lived not far from her when she was just starting out and doing the club scene. Life in Commack NY was not the down trodden place she loves to portray in her " woe is me " telling of her life.

I never met her. Some of my younger siblings knew her. I'm 60 I think she's 52or 53. She's a loud mouth overly opinionated and comes across like a bulldog. Real chip on her shoulder. Is what they said. I think they were right as that is certainly the persona that comes across over the airwaves.

Does anyone else remember when she had the radio show on Sirius Radio? It was during the last census, because I was putting in really long days of driving so would often listen to her (and sometimes the replay as well).

What struck me most was that she seems to be "stuck" at about a preteen age when it comes to her emotions and sensibilities. On her radio show there were absolutely NO limits, she broadcast out of her home, surrounded by her handpicked friends, and would talk endlessly about her kids, her DGF at the time, and the DGFs kids, etc. I was *shocked* at all of the details she shared. (I love satellite radio, listen to a lot of other stars on there, and THEY don't share like that!)

We have a good friend, about the same age, who has some serious mental illness, and there are similarities that I see....(and Rosie has freely admitted in the past to medicating and self medicating for some of the same).

While I can understand rape or sexual abuse upsetting her because of her experience, Rosie seems to have had anger bubbling under the surface for several years. She's very snippy most of the time and constantly primed for an argument.

I love her. I didn't see the particular Toronto shooting episode, so I don't know the context or specifics of what she said. However, I agree with her at least 95% of the time. I am not a bully, I don't think she is a bully either. Whoopi, IMO of, was doing what mean girls in high school do. The under the radar stuff like eye rolling, sighing, etc. then when called on it they play innocent. RP is trying not to offend other celebrities. RO speaks her mind and was annoyed IMO a that no one wanted to believe Bill Cosby could do such things. That is why victims don't press charges. Her comment about wondering if Nicholle read the info was probably because she was either insinuating or flat out stating that victims hadn't come forward before. I like Whoopi's acting but am not a fan of her opinions on most issues. She seems to excuse a lot of abuse, it's not just these rape allegations.

This is how that show played out about the Ottawa shooting. As a Canadian it did not offend me in the least.

Christy Teigen tweeted on the day that our soldier was shot something to the effect of *There was a shooting in Canada today, here we call it Wednesday*.

The other hosts were on it and Rosie said but her (Teigen's) point is correct though. Teigen was being sarcastic about how there are so many shootings in the US and many are becoming completely numb to it. Rosie was talking about how it's become so sadly normal.

Nicolle Wallace stepped in with but today is not the day.

I saw both of their points. Christy was getting death threats for her sarastic tweet and Rosie was defending what she was trying to say, the gist of it. And Nicolle was trying to say "not today" when a soldier was taken down - a soldier with a son and a family.

That's funny! I am watching thinking how much I like the View now that Rosie is back.

I am disliking Whoopi more and more. I wouldn't be sad if she left the show.

Me too. I really liked Whoopi, there's been a change in me.

I understood what was getting under Rosie's skin today. And I think it started with Nicolle saying there was no new news/allegations since yesterday to even discuss.

I'm not a huge Rosie fan, nor against her but I certainly understood.

I don't think it was about not listening to others with alternate viewpoints either - today. She does struggle with that at times.

Anyway, besides the tension today I think it's a good season after a tough start. Besides this discussion, I'm loving Nicolle.

I'm certainly not missing Sherri and her baby Jeffrey. :lmao: ;)

Yes! Several others mentioned it up thread also, but I am so enjoying Nicholle Wallace. She provides the voice of reason on the show and is clear and concise when stating her opinions. She also comes across as funny, intelligent and as having a great deal of empathy. I had never heard of her before she started on the show and wasn't expecting to like her. In a few short months she has become my absolute favorite. I think she's the best thing to happen to the View since Meredith left years ago.

As for Rosie O, I generally like her, but on certain issues she just can't seem to tolerate dissenting opinions. And in this case, the other ladies weren't even disagreeing with her, but were reserving judgment. She then comes. across as a big mouthed bully. She was not pleasant to watch today

Totally agree. :goodvibes :thumbsup2 Nicolle is such a breath of fresh air.

Reserving judgement is what drives her bananas on this specific issue. It does for me too. And I'm not alone with family and friends here in my life. That's what happened today.

You all would have hated me.

We have a similar situation going on in Canada. When one or two women came out there were some who rallied behind the man here and some who went off on social media. But when it was one woman after another that came out no one that I know even thinks it's possible that he's innocent. And some of these women had relationships with him. And those who rallied the first day or two, apologized to the victims. Because when there are multiple women speaking out, to some of us, the words *alleged* victims is difficult to stomach. The man was fired from his position at one of our national TV/radio stations, CBC, and he has not been charged with anything as yet.

Facts and proof being hard in today's world but not happening back then during the Cosby time period. And certainly not happening now that there will be no court cases.

Have to agree that I too USED to like Rosie, then she turned bitter and had to fight over everything. It's always her way or you will hear her shout louder about her way.

But reserving judgement is not proclaiming someone as innocent. Fluff show or not, they have to use words like "alleged." I get why that would infuriate her but it's that way for a reason. Innocent until proven guilty protects all of us, it wasn't made up on the fly just to protect Bill Cosby.

For the record, I think he's guilty as hell. These kind of allegations have been around for decades. By all accounts he's a frightening man not to be messed with. I 100% agree with her that these woman having nothing to gain by making it up. I will go further and say I don't think there should be a statute of limitations on rape and sexual assault. I believe them and I believe they have no reason to lie. And yet, it still has to be proven, that's the law, we're all entitled to due process. We can't cherry pick who is and who isn't. Where I and I think others may have a problem with Rosie O is that she refuses to accept that and directs her fury at others who do.

I agree with this. I too think he is probably guilty. I also think there are probably a lot of powerful people who know more than they are saying about this and that code of silence may have helped to set Rosie O off. She definitely advocates for victims and I like that about her. I still think her on air behavior yesterday was boorish. We have a legal system for a reason and although not perfect, it is what we have to work with. Unless newer allegations come out that are still within the statute of limitations and therefore investigated, we will probably not know definitively and I think that is what the other 3 were trying to point out.

For the record, there is a lot about Whoopi that I enjoy, but I think she can be boorish as well. I have seen the sighs and her seeming to not pay attention when there is a guest/topic she is not interested in.

I completely agree with this statement. I am sorry that my wording came off differently, honestly. I didn't mean that the hosts should have not used proper legal wording. That part was not well communicated by me.

What I meant that is that some of the hosts have gone further than that kind of speech when discussing. Acting like there is a good possibility that the man is being railroaded.

And you don't have to be a personality like Rosie to state what many of us feel is the obvious with the multiple women.

Kit Hoover (Access Hollywood) who is the antithesis of Rosie - all light and sunshine ;), made a comment one of the first days that she has a very hard time believing that all those women were lying and she thought it was probably true because of that (I'm paraphrasing). She was on another show. I think that is what drives Rosie nuts; that more people aren't saying this when they are giving opinions. On TV or not.

(Sharon Osbourne does this on The Talk. She just out and out says things. And she still has her job. And I doubt Kit Hoover will be fired for her statements/opinions. That's what I mean.)

Same thing as above, I think it goes further than that with some of them. They've discussed it on another day. And that's where I have differing opinions from both of you. I think they backtrack somewhat as well. I do think they've made statements that go further than we will probably never know definitively. And that's her issue. And mine. Even if we are not being fair. I believe that I'm a very fair person but I have an issue with thinking that many women are lying about rape; that's all. I too was uncomfortable with Rosie but I understood it. And sometimes I'm grateful for people who are that passionate in life.

Also, I think she seemed that angry because she was trying to be better and keep it in/not raise her voice etc (a la Elisabeth and her). Honestly, I think her trying to do that made it seem worse. We have a show up here similar to The View, I think that some of our hosts just would have let it all out, the rest would have dealt and it would have been over. I've seen them do it.

As for the second sentence Whoopi has often said that is one thing her mother, when she was alive, got on her about. Looking and acting disinterested when she definitely was in that place.

She definitely advocates for victims and I like that about her.

Did you see the show where she had the young man on that refused time after time to say he was guilty just to get out of jail early? And Rosie kept telling him how proud she was of him.

Both touching and frustrating to hear his story.

Rosie is sensitive for sure. Above in the most beautiful way with this young man and then overly sensitive in other ways.

I share that trait (I just realized that means I said in the most beautiful way about myself :rotfl2: ;)) and it's sometimes tough to get a good balance.

I get that her heart is the right place but from my perspective she's going about it the wrong way. You cannot try to force someone to think the way that you do, especially with anger. Years ago my Dad very wisely told me never to give a man an ultimatum because even though you may be right he'll choose the opposite just to piss you off. This is what I see her doing time and time again on issues she's passionate about. Whether she means to or not she's backing people into a corner and they're going to push back, even if they agree with her. If you ever hope to turn someone to your way of thinking or at least get them to see your point of view, you absolutely must be willing to hear theirs, kwim? Others saw highly emotional in her, I saw seething anger. The whole time I kept thinking I'd hate to be one of her kids on the other end of that. The funny thing is, more than half the time I agree with her on a lot of things. I just don't like how she goes about it.
