I took an Imitrex an hour ago

Ugh - that stinks. I take Imitrex too, and once in awhile, it just doesn't work. That is soooo disappointing. Do you take any other painkiller along with it, like Excedrin or Aleve?

Nope. As soon as I'm done working I'm going to go home to take a nap. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. *crossign fingers*

Can you repeat the dose 1 time?

Sorry...that stinks!!

No medication has EVER worked for my migraines. The only thing that does is cheddar cheese and a Coke.

Then I take a quick hot shower, wrap my head tight with a towel, and go to sleep with lots of cold fans on me.

Something with the cold/protein/hot/caffeine does the trick every time.

A friend of mine struggles with migraines, too, and after I told her about my "routine" she started doing the same and it works for her, as well.

I can take another pill at 5:15.

minnesota, that sounds interesting.

I used to use caffeine-coke, coffee, lots of chocolate to ease mine. Then I found out a large glass of cheap wine and aspirin worked really well too. Something to do with the vascular system. I also needed cold. I'd put my head in the freezer and breathe really cold air. Good luck Jules. I'm sending you a quiet, peaceful, cool wish.

Have you tried treximet? I have struggled with migraines for over 20 years, treximet is the medication that works best for me.
I really hope you find relief!

So why is my stupid migraine getting worse????? *sigh*

feel better jules, I know migraines suck big time. I take imitrex also. I found the new excedrin for migranes is pretty good also. It's a combination of aspirin, caffine and ibuprofen. Generally if I take 2 of those and can lie down I'm good to go.

I also suffer from nasal inflammations mainly due to allergies so some times if my allergies kick in for days on end it will trigger a migrane.

I take Excedrin too along with the Imitrex. But the Excedrin Migraine is the exact same formula as the extra strength Excedrin. They just changed the name on the bottle. It's a combination of aspirn, caffeine and acetaminophin. I also like to lay down with a very cold washcloth across my eyes. It seems to have a calming effect.

Rx meds have never worked for my migraines either. I hope you are feeling better soon and the migraine gets better.

I read a long time ago that some migraines are linked to a magnesium deficiency and talk to my Dr who told me it was OK to take a supplement and see how it went. It took about a month on it but I then went from 1-2 migraines a month without magnesium to getting them maybe once every 4-6 months. Huge improvement for me!

I have heard magnesium supplements help. How much do you take? I already take 2 tabs a day and I don't think it has helped me (migraine wise).
The leg cramps are better with magnesium however.

:headache:Ugh Imitrex does horrible things to me, so I don't take it anymore. I usually drink a coke, take 800 mg of ibuprofen, a xanax (yes, I have an rx for it), and close the window shades and turn the lights off. Eventually it goes away....:headache:

I take 133mg a day..you can take it I believe 3x a day (the ones I buy) but I have found that 1x works for me. It's a calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement. Plain magnesium did nothing for me for some odd reason but the calcium/mag/zinc did. No idea why but since it works I stick with it.

How long have you been taking the magnesium? I know I read it can take some time for you to no longer be deficient and work to reduce the migraines.

I have noticed lately that when I take Imitrex my migraine does get worse before it gets better. Usually around the 30 minute mark tho not an hour.

Good luck the last one I had earlier in the week I had to take 2 also before it helped, must be the time of the year. I also think laying down after taking them does help.

I get migraines and my Dr told me if they don't subside within 60-90min of taking the Imitrex to go to the ER...

Feel better!

Me too. I took it *one time*. Only one. It gave me crushing chest pain and nausea. If i hadn't known it from the Imitrex I would have thought it was a heart attack. I tried Maxalt after that. It gave me terrible hallucinations of geese flying around my ceiling and a 6ft tall bloody pig by my bedroom door. Scared me half to death, it was so real--I was afraid to move for 5 hours. I'm allergic to Advil, so NSAIDS are out. Now I just take Tylenol, get an ice pack for my head, pull down the shades and try to go to sleep. If i can sleep, that usually breaks it up. Even so, I'm always hungover and wiped out for the next 10-12 hours.

Migraines suck.

This is exactly what works for me. Doc did give me a script a while back for Midrin and it seemed to work ok after the max dosage but my own little deal works better.

I hope you are feeling better tonight.
