Hi Mary Ellen
What nice changes! Have you ever stayed at the Grand Floridian? I thought it would be nice to stay there, until I saw the prices. Yikes!

Nora! Thanks for joining in!
I have never stayed at the GF before, but I have used my DVC pool hopping privileges there. Plus I have eaten there a couple times. It's such a gorgeous resort. I look forward to staying there.
Hi Mary EllenSorry that Denny had to have a medical procedure and stay in hospital. Isn't that always the way? Murphy's Law - especially since you work for a cardiologist. Lucky that you work in that area and knew what was going on and were able to question the release.
Murphy's law is right. I actually work with a cardiac surgeon, but all our patients come from the cardiologists, so I know quite a few of them. I am very glad that everything worked out as well as it did. It could have turned out very differently.
Our biggest fear, when travelling to the U.S. or any other country, or while on a cruise, is a serious medical issue. While we do have travel medical insurance, and trip interruption insurance, most often the facility wants to be paid up front and it could run into thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of dollars! We have read horror stories. My DH developed a medical issue (luckily not serious) while we were in Florida in 2009 (I think) and we called our insurance company, who gave us the addresses of two doctors in the area. After seeing a doctor twice, the insurance company would not allow any other visits, and we had to cut our vacation short and come home, paying for the doctor's visits, prescriptions, and new plane fare ourselves, to be reimbursed afterwards.
That sounds like a very frustrating and un-nerving experience. Good thing you got a few visits covered, but how unfortunate to have to cut your vacation short. And how terrible to have all those extra expenses. No one ever plans for that.
We lost one week's vacation, plus one week rental on a condo, but felt it was the best thing to do. It turned out that he has an extreme sensitivity to antibiotics, which he had taken before we left home, and coincidentally the U.S. doctor had given him the same meds. He knows now to be very careful with antibiotics.
What a shame. So an allergic reaction to an antibiotic sidelined him? How often. I am glad that he recovered quickly, but sorry you had to go through that stress.
We're in our 60s and are trying to take as many trips as we can (afford) before we can no longer travel. We just tuck the worry about health issues while travelling into the back of our minds, and have fun, hoping nothing happens. Can't stay home all the time.
You are so right about that. I feel the same way. I try not to worry about the "what if's" I do feel fortunate that we weren't on the cruise when Denny needed his stent. Now that would have been problematic.
How many years until your 25th anniversary? Enjoy the planning. Loving your trip reports. Good luck on the
AAA TA position. You are one busy lady!
Nora
Our 25th is October 2014. Since we already had partial plans for this year, the cruise seems like a good choice for next year.
Getting caught up on TR's today.
A PP's have said, even though I knew what was coming, it was still scary to read about Denny's Hospital experience. Thank goodness you followed your gut and that the cardio agreed with you. At least you were able to extend so he could enjoy the rest of the trip. Glad to hear he is doing so well now.
Thanks. He really is doing very well. Stents are pretty amazing. They really do present heart attacks. When they work right they are really a modern marvel.
Too bad you cancelled your Cruise in Oct but great you will be going in 2014. That sounds like a nice trip with the GF stay.
I was really torn as to whether to cancel. In fact, I had no intentions of it until we bought that add on and our friends dropped out. After that, it just seemed to make sense to change things around a bit.
The October trip sounds nice though, even without the cruise. You have some nice resort plans.
I think this October's trip is going to be a blast. I have to admit that I want to spend a bunch of time in the parks. I considered going to Vero for 4 days, but don't want to be away that long.
Can't wait to hear more about this trip and your June one too.
I'm on it.
Your plans sound magical. As does your purchase of the Grand points. Our 25th is next December (2014), we haven't made a plan yet. So, you are doing great on the planning for next year already!
DVC does really encourage early planning. I like that. I am also excited that we are doing the cruise for our anniversary next year instead of Denny's birthday this year. Does that sound selfish?
YGlad Denny is doing well. Is hard to believe that was just shortly after we met you at UD.
I know, right? The first warning signs started the very next day. Crazy.
YAnd of course love your update, sea creatures and pretty pictures. Very nice!
Thanks! I really did enjoy the beach walk and Bluffton. That is an area with do much to do. It's amazing.
Congrats! No, I hadn't seen that yet. I'm sure you'll find ways to use it! Very cool.
I plan on using it. I guess its sort of like an empty nester gift. What's crazy is it must really be the biggest impulse buy I have every had. I never buy anything without careful consideration. Not this. It was like, "Ok where do we sign". Well, maybe not THAT impulsive, but close.
But elsewhere there was a couple sunbathing and you didn't take their picture?
I thought I took pictures of the sunbathers, but alas, I guess not. As far as the picture I posted. That view was pretty accidental. I was going for the horseshoe crab. I didn't expect the cleavage.
