I thought room requests are not guaranteed so why...

...was I told when I made my ressies at OKW that my 2br would be a lockout because that was all they had left? If I arrive early will I still have a chance of getting a dedicated?

Room types are usually reserved and not a request.

That seems to be guaranteed which is why I had some problems lately. Where the lockout is, is not a gurantee!

To keep track of inventory available, they have to assign a reservation to either dedicated or lockoff. They need to know how many lockoffs have been reserved as 2 bedrooms and how many are available to split up between a studio & 1 bedroom to two different reservations. From what I've heard, they book the dedicateds first, leaving lockoffs available to go either way. On the other hand, they may make some last minute switches, which may not make it totally guaranteed.

i think i remember reading that if you have a Dedicated room booked, then that is what you will get.
however, if you have a Lockoff room booked, sometimes they will switch you to a Dedicated room if they need to at last minute.
a room assignor who used to work at OKW posted this info about half a year ago.

Lockoff 2BR Villas are comprised of a Studio and adjoining 1BR Villa.

There will be two exterior doors, the 2nd BR will have a kitchenette and a balcony/patio.

In the dedicated 2BR, there will be one exterior door to the villa and there won't be a balcony for the 2nd BR. There will be no kitchenette in the 2nd BR, but there will be an extra closet in it's place.

Both will have a full kitchen, washer/dryer and jacuzzi tub. In both cases the room id/key will open all exterior doors to the villa.

A "lock-out" is really a one-bedroom and a studio where the connecting door is unlocked forming one 2-bedroom unit. The second bedroom is the same as a studio with the kitchenette and small balcony and a front door to the outside. A dedicated 2 bedroom is always a 2 bedroom. There is no outside door and no kitchenette. I'm pretty sure there is no balcony off the 2nd bedroom but I'm fuzzy on that one.

And yes, they are booked at the time of reservation rather than being just a request.

I am a new DVC member and still trying to figure this all out.

So when I call to book my reservation , I have to specifically ask for a dedicated 2 bedroom? And will I get that or could they give me a lockoff??

Is one easier than the other to obtain?

It depends on the resort. BWV has no dedicated 2 bedrooms, they are all lockoffs. The other WDW resorts have a mix. I'm not sure about HH or VB. You can request one or the other when you make the reservation, they will check availability and let you know.

To throw in another possibility....some of the dedicated 2 bedrooms at BCV have 2 queen beds in the second bedroom and some have a bed and a sleeper sofa. This is another option that can be booked, not just requested.

We had a 2BR dedicated at OKW and at VB, they were great especially since we have a 4yr old who might try and open the "2nd" door if given a chance
