I think we are ready for a cruise!!

After going to WDW many times, I think I am ready to plan our first cruise;maybe for next summer. Is this a good time to book ? Are prices competitive or are they pretty much the same no matter who you book with? What do you think I would be paying per adult in a cat 9 in the summer months? Thanks for your help!

We are in the same book (get it?). I'd love any of all these experts advice on the basics. When is the best time to go? Is Eastern or Western best? Should we spend the $ for a veranda? Can you survive in the inside staterooms?

I know these are alot of questions, but you all have "been there, done that." Who knows better than this group of experts. Should I believe all I read in the Passporter?

As a veteran cruiser, I can honestly say that the Passporter is accurate. I have met David and Jennifer personally and can assure you that they have thoroughly researched everything for their book. IF the book has any additions, changes or deletions, you can access their website for updates.

I only wish that I had mine before my first cruise, but even now I find a lot of information in a very easy and accessible manner with their handy guide.

Regarding booking - book as early as you can to get the discounts, and if you book on ship you can also receive onboard credit. I like sailing in May and October best. Have been Eastern several times - Western was diverted last year but we have two chances this year to get there!
We prefer the 7 night cruises to the 3 and 4 night ones (we have had all three at least once).
We had a Navigator's Verandah for our first cruise (3 night), but have opted to get the full verandah for the others - for many reasons we prefer it.

Depending on how long you will cruise for your first time, you might just see if you like being in an inside stateroom. Because once you get a higher category, I understand it's difficult to take a lower one.

We were privileged to spend time with friends in the Walt Disney Suite and WWOOWOWW! Incredible!

There is some sort of "first time cruiser" stateroom credit. Unfortunately, we didn't know about it until AFTER our first time cruise! Make sure you ask!

Typically, it will be cheaper to sail during non-peak times....think of the school calendar. When kids are in school, it's cheaper. When they are out, it's more expensive (Christmas, spring break, summer) The exception to this is hurricaine season, which, correct me if I'm wrong, have pretty good rates.

We didn't know about that credit either! Oh well. That's why I believe in and support these boards - they are a vast resource.

Even in hurricane season, DCL is always concerned with safety. Our diverted Western had seas as smooth as glass and wonderful weather - so while Hurricane Lili pounded Grand Cayman and Cozumel, we were in Puerto Rico and St. Thomas basking in the sun!

I know it is costing us a whole lot more in points to cruise in August, but it's the only time DH can cruise and hey, I'm not going to quibble about it since Mom, Michael and I cruise twice a year together while he stays home to "guard the fort".

What I like best about booking while on boad is the onboard credit since you can still cancel or change or even transfer to points at a later date.

I also feel more secure in having a year in advance so DH can plan for coverage.
