I think this is wrong!

I have a friend who is going with her family during free dining. She has been the last 2 years. She currently has 2 seperate reservations booked. She booked one at CRO and one online. When I asked her why in the world she did this, she said it was because they could not decide between the top 2 resorts on her list, and they wanted to make sure neither got away before they made up their minds! She said they did this last year too. I politly told her I did not agree with what she is doing, it seems unfair to me to hold a room that way, but she said it wasn't any different than holding one room in the hopes of getting to go. Am I justified or am I maybe just feeling this way because I am jealous I don't get to go this year?

Eh, who cares. She will cancel one and someone else will get it who may not have had a chance otherwise. Not a big deal.

It doesn't bother me that she's doing it at the slowest time of the year, she'll have to pay 45 days before and will most likely cancel by then...many people actually plan their trips within that 45 day window (not go nuts like we do planning 2 years ahead! ) so I don't think she's harming anything...I might feel differently if she were planning it around spring break or summer when people might actually be affected...what about companies who block out rooms for conventions then cancel? They're blocking hundreds even thousands of rooms...it has happened, I used to be in an industry that held several conventions...we would plan one in anticipation of a new product rolling out but when it got delayed by the FDA..we'd have to cancel with less than week's notice..stuff like that happens..

I hear what you are saying about the 45 day mark, but what bothers me is that by that mark for the Sept trips, the Free Dining booking window will be gone and no one can get the promo. KWIM?

I think that is wrong, b/c the CM I spoke to said that when people who got FD with their res. cancel, those res's go back as regular non FD rooms.

This is what I was told as well. Sometimes you can't really trust what CMs tell you is accurate, but I can see where this would be true .

The CM I talked to told me Disney sometimes releases more rooms for the promotion. But there is no garauntee they will do that.

I think it's wrong because as a pp said, if she waits until the 45 day mark to cancel or cancels after the booking window for FD ends, there's no chance for anyone else to pick up that room with FD. Just my opinion....but I don't think it's right

I don't think it's right either. Decide where you want to stay before you call. We have a few families going and we each had different places we wanted to stay. It took a while and some compromises but we all decided on a resort before we called. Some people make a resevation, then their situation changes and they need to cancel, but they had every intention of using that room when they booked it. This person has no intention of using 1 of those rooms. She needs to make a decision. As my late grandmother always said...."S--t or get off the pot!"

At some point, someone who REALLY does want one of those resorts may be told it's sold out, and settle for their second choice.

The room probably won't go empty, but someone who should have had first dibs on it will lose out because of someone else's selfishness.

It's like mom told us all when we were little: take only what you'll use.

I don't see how it's any different from any other type of reservation ... ?? ... People book travel plans all the time, then cancel. Life happens.

if she pays both deposits its her rm until she cancels...thats how it is,if she does NOT pay both deposits the rm goes back in 14 days...no harm..

It may be a loophole, but Im sure one that Disney is aware of. The selfishness comes in that they are doing it to guarantee that THEY get the free dining and at the same time, guaranteeing that someone else doesnt. Kinda questionable.

I personally know there are several people out there that do this(perhaps even hundereds)...I almost did it. In my case, we want a Deluxe or Moderate and another family we are going with wants a Value. So I booked the Value, and hoping that if this other family cancels that there is a Moderate or Deluxe available for our dates. The CM I spoke with said -that was the safest thing to do since the Values would sell out first...and the others would probably have availbility anytime.

Now I have had 2 ADRs at the same time(usually for different numbers of people/different restaurants: park vs resort) due to the indecision of other people we are traveling with. Again-so this makes me understand why someone might have to do it. But we alwayscancel it and making it available for someone else -the couterous thing to do IMO.

Some people have reported Disney cancelling Adr's(and I am sure they could do that to resort stays too) if there was a problem.

I don't think it's a big deal, either. I'm not convinced that the room doesn't go back into the "free dining" pool. Two years ago I called and called and called to get my in-laws a room at POP. Finally, after about a week one was available.

In fact, almost booked two rooms this year myself. I have POR reserved and I was thinking about downgrading to ASMv and paying for the Deluxe Dining Plan. I even went to the Disney website to check for availability. BUT ... I thought I would just stick with the moderate instead and as of today all the values are sold out. Of course if I change my mind, I could just call and call and call again, LOL!
