Southwest released their schedule and fares for the end of the year and people are not happy. I can understand why SW is raising their rates. I have to wait until I get home to book my trip because I forgot to bring the Disney Visa with me to work. But I'm going to book the much higher fare and hope for a Ding to come out later. I'll just use the credit for my air fare for the cruise.

Southwest is making me crazy today. It will let me book everything, but not my companion pass. I have been on hold for 30 minutes trying to talk to someone. I actually called right away when the window opened to complain. I didn't realize that was the only time I was going to get through our I would have complained about both things at one time. I was already logged on and trying to book my reward flight within 30 seconds of the flights coming online and there were none available. They say there are not blackout dates, but I am starting to think that is a lie.

I know...the fares are sooooo high. I was watching them for a friend that wanted to go home to Philly for Christmas. It was close to $600 per ticket for the dates they wanted.

So when do you think SW will release their fares for May of 2009? I plan to get our airline tickets as quickly as possible once the fares are released!

I looking for May 2009 too, they should come out about 6 months out.

I'm worried though, seems like checking the new rates through Jan. 09, unless you are flying on Tuesdays or Wednesday the rates are really high. I was messing around with it and if you fly out on Tuesday, one way is like $129-$159but if you try for flights on other days, some went up to $251 one way!

I checked for a random Saturday - Thursday flight and it seemed somewhat reasonable...guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Don't forget to check Airtran. They release their flights sooner than Southwest and are sometimes cheaper than SW.

Will Airtran be in business by that time? lol...that's what scares me anymore about these airlines. One day they're here, the next day they're not!

We did fly Airtran to catch our cruise last August. Pretty nice airline overall! Are they nonstop to Orlando though? Off to check!!

Very true about the airlines still being in business in May. Airtran hasn't released their May 2009 flights yet, but they should soon. Typically, Airtran has 3 non-stop flights out of Indy per day.

I just checked AirTran and they didn't go to Orlando? Did I look at the wrong thing? do you know their website?

The increases were bound to happen.

I checked from Houston to Orlando and there is about a 20 dollar increase on most and some others are quite a bit more.

People sooner or later will quit traveling as much and maybe things will level out some and the demand goes down.

Hi Kim,

www.airtran.com is their website. They fly non-stop from Indianapolis to Orlando. Typically 3 non-stop flights per day; however, that number may decrease with the recent fuel price increases.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I would think that people should have realized this was coming. I can still understand the cathartic value of throwing a fit over it though!! :furious:

These hikes have been on every news channel for months. Higher airfares and additional fees are going to be the norm unless people just stand up and say enough! I realize many people have to fly for business, but with web technology like Web-Ex and Go To Meeting, etc., that has to be taking a chunk out of business travel too. We use Web-Ex extensively in my office now and it saves our salesman from having to hop a plane several times a week to attend a presentation in our main office.

I am very interested as well in seeing the financial results for Disney Parks for the 3Q and 4Q of this year, not to mention the first half of next year.

While it's more expensive (just booked my flight) it's not ungodly so like some other airlines. US air has real crappy times, lots of layovers, and crappy prices from PHL to MCO. Airtran, every flight is a layover! If you want an early AM direct flight, it's $600 roundtrip for good times for the PHL to MCO route!

SW actually has some nice dings still and decent midweek times. I should have thought of that when I booked our trip! :confused3

I always try to leave on a Tuesday and come back on a Tuesday. The fares are better.

I did warn DW, unless X-mas is spectacular down there, I don't see it happening again! There are too many other good deals for flying down in Jan-Feb, early May and Oct.

So, this is the once in a lifetime X-mas at Disney/Uni trip!
