I think that my solo trip spoiled me

Well, last May I took WDW trip where I was solo the majority (10 out of 12 days) of the time. I had an awesome time on that trip. In October I went for a long weekend to WDW with my sisters and while I had a good time, I kept missing my solo trip.

Next year I am planning 3 trips: a long weekend in May with one of my friends, a long weekend in November with my sister, niece & nephew, and an 8-9 day trip in December. Well, now I am hoping that no one invites themselves on my December ('08) trip so that it can stay a solo trip.

I think that I have been totally spoiled by my solo trip :rotfl2: and I will have to make sure that I get at least 1 solo trip each year so that I can do what I want.

love solo trips myself!

but going in Dec and not expecting other guests....

well considering in my opinion - Disney is at their best during Dec - good luck.

"Silence is golden" is my approach!

Do what I have done. I don't tell anyone I am going, other than my boss who approves my vacation time, until a few days before I leave. No one has time to "invite" themselves to join me.

I know the feeling....I took 2 solo trips this year and loved it! But it will be 2009 before I can get another one in...But I can't complain because I am going to NO,LA for the first time in April, and I couldn't afford to sneak in a solo trip.

Hmmm... I may have to try this approach. Its too late for 2008 but for 2009 and on, I may have to remember to keep my trip quiet until right before I go.

NO, LA? Awesome! Have an incredible time!

I will be leaving in two days and, until today, only my husband and daughters knew about the solo trip. I swore them to secrecy because if my best friend or stepmother found out, they'd both invite themselves.

I mentioned it to only two co-workers because I am sick of being called a freak every time I go on another trip to Disney!:rotfl2:

If they knew I was going ALONE to Disney, I can't imagine what they would call me!:lmao:

I have traveled solo for business many, many times. From doing that, I gained the courage to take some vacations on my own. WDW is one of my favorite places to go solo as there are always others to talk to while waiting in line, on the bus, at a restaurant. I have found that WDW is one of the few places where people at the next table will strike up a conversation with someone dining alone. In most places, that just doesn't happen.

I want to try cruising by myself. Since you end up at a table with other passengers, I will always have company for dinner!

Yup, I am going to New Orleans for PyrateCon2008pirate:
I'll be travelling solo, but once I get there, I'll be amongst thousands of POTC fans!

I have been on partial solo trips before but in those cases I did a tour and then spent a few more days on my own (Ireland, Oregon). After planning my solo WDW trip for last May, I decided to go to Yellowstone solo and went there in September. I was very nervous about going to Yellowstone solo before I got there but I had an awesome time!

Based upon those 2 experiences this year, I love WDW solo and I think that I really won't limit my non-Disney vacations based upon if anyone wants to go with me.

I told my husband about this thread a few days ago. He said that he thought going to Disney World alone would be scary. I was surprised that he would say so since it is not like Disney World is in some isolated area where a tourist might be injured with nobody knowing about it for days or more. After I asked him why it would be scary, he said that Disney seemed like a place for families and couples. I guess it does, but I wouldn't let being alone stop me from going if that were the only reason to not go.

Excellent point! Especially since the lodging is "ahem" free.

So can I come in December? ;)

I agree with that feeling. Shaun isn't much of a traveler but he knows I love to travel so it may be done solo but that is something I feel comfortable doing too.

I found that I am not nervous at all in WDW. I can get nervous by myself in cities, but then again, I am not really a city person. I would rather drive to the white mountains than drive to Boston.

I really didn't feel out of place solo at WDW at all. I enjoyed watching all of the kids and really enjoyed being able to walk away when a kid got cranky! :rotfl2:

Since you like to travel and Shaun doesn't definitely look at some solo vacations. In your case, I would probably alternate vacations or so. Take some with Shaun and some on your own to places that he isn't interested in going.

By the way, I was on-campus on Friday. I was in Worcester doing an errand and decided to stop by WPI and visit my sister at work. The new building on the quad really looks nice.

I am considering a solo trip. i would love to take the kids, but they have sports and I have 1 free flight-not 4, so I got this idea for a solo.

What are some of the best things to do solo?
Where is good to eat?

Saw this thread and I just couldn't help myself! I've been to WDW 4 times now as a solo traveler. There is a certain freedom in doing whatever you want when you want. As we all know, when traveling with others, you have the concern that everyone is getting to do what they want, and making sure everyone is happy. Alone you don't have those concerns to pre-occupy your mind! I traveled for business many years and made the transition to solo vacation scheduling because I just needed "away" time. I have also cruised alone - that's cool too. : )
