he had to go to the vet again last night to express his bladder, he went home, and didn't move all night, he keeps trying to pee, but now he's just laying there and leaking....he can barely move.

micky is bringing him to the vet now, they don't know what's causing this, but he's not getting better just worse, and i've already spent close to $800 so far and i hate to say it, but i can't afford hardly anymore.

he's only 6!!!! i'm soooo sad. i can't even be there because i started a new job and don't have time off yet.

keep little phil in your prayers please.

I am so sorry! I totally understand what you are going through, my kitty is at the vets right now. He had surgery yesterday to try to find out what is causing his problems! This is costing us $1000. Believe me, we don't have that kind of money but the vet is letting us make payments...will your vet let you? Sometimes just asking the vet & telling them your situation they will let you make payments.

Prayers that they will find out what is wrong & be able to fix it!

So sorry about your kitty. I hope they find out what's wrong.

Prayers and Pixie Dust to you and your kitty.

I'm hoping for good news! Keep us posted!

Prayers for you and your kitty!

It is so horrible to see them sick. God knows I've been through this enough times....

God bless,

This started with my male cat when he was around 6 also. Your cat is not going to die, because there is a good and effective way to treat this. You need to get an IV bag of SUBCUTANEOUS fluids from your vet. Get extra IV needles too. Have the vet tech. show you how to give your cat fluids. If they are willing, have them infuse them bag with vitamin C. You will need to give your cat the fluids every day to keep him peeing. If his bladder has been expressed, he is straining in the litterbox merely because he is irritated. You can feel for his bladder. If it is hard and distended, get him to the vet asap. Have the vet tech show you how to do this also. If it is soft, he is irritated. If he is passing any urine (even drops), he is likely just irritated down there right now. Feel the bladder to know for sure.

After the acute period passes, mix vitamin c powder into his food every day. The acidity helps to keep the irritating crystals from forming. We just use a pinch in our guy's dinner.

Did your cat pass urine when they expressed his bladder? Did they use a catheter? If so, he is very irritated. It took my cat 2 weeks to recover from the catheterization :( The next time, have them use ketamine to sedate him, and then gently express his bladder. This works every time for my cat.

Also, putting him on a "clean" diet will help. We use Petguard canned petfood that we get from Whole Foods (or petfooddirect.com). You can use any number of the natural diets, though (wellness, LickYourChops, etc.). This was a big one for us...our cat got a lot better on the clean food.

Please PM me if you have any questions. We've been through this a zillion times with our cat, and he finally seems to have turned the corner. This does not need to be an $800 problem, either.

Wow chrissyk. That's incredibly helpful to all of us cat lovers. I will remember that just in case for the future.

Oh poor little kitty.:( I have a 5 year old male cat so I can only imagine the misery you are in right now. Prayers for a positive outcome.

Any update OP? I'm thinking about your poor kitty, since we've been there so many times with our little guy. Hoping for a good update!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Mom's cat had urinary troubles. He often had blockages. they ended up having a surgery done on him that redirected how he urinated. They had to teach him to squat and it sounds like a faucet being turned on everytime he goes. They also have to keep him heavy so he doesn't lick his backend. Mom actually cleans him every few days to keep everything nice and clean. He was only 2 when all this started. I don't recall what the actual name of his condition was but I know they said it isn't always dx'd correctly and the surgery is one of the better options. Probably not the cheapest but it has helped keep Little Boy alive. (BTW Little boy weighs in at about 15lbs!!)
I'll keep you and your kitty in my prayers!

If it turns out to be crystals blocking/irritating the urinary tract, then I've been through this twice with my male kitties. Most recently this past January with our Sam.

Everything chrissyk said is great advice. To it I'd add:

If your cat doesn't like the vit C powder- I've used 250 mg. tabs from the health food store and given them to him (not on an empty stomach) just like I would any other pill. Cranberry tablets are also a way to beneficially acidify the urine. They are sold wherever vitamins are sold.

My vet stressed Water, Water, Water! He said that recent studies have shown it to be more important to urinary health than the pH factor. I now add water to the dry food and then some canned so it makes like a gravy. All three of my kitties will eat this and it's good for all of their kidneys to get the extra fluid.

I credit this to be my "miracle"- when Sam came home from the vet (after 3 days and $500) he wasn't much better than when he left. The vet said that the chances were good that he would "re-block" in the next 2 weeks. Well, I couldn't afford another $500 stay so I got pro-active. I went on a homeopathic website for cats and started reading. They recommended Cantharis. It supposedly soothes the bladder and calms spasms of the urethra. It only cost $3.50 at my local pharmacy so I gave it a try. Well, he had been home a day and a half and was straining and moaning everytime he'd pee and only pee a very small amount. I folllowed the directions on the Cantharis vile-put the tiny pellets in his mouth every 15 mins for 1 hour and the results were dramatic. After the hour was up he peed a huge amount without any straining or moaning!! I was so happy I cried! He was fine from then on.

Hope the advice you get here calms you and will help Phil!

Keep us posted.
