I think Ke$ha's lyrics set the women's movement back 50 years...

Seriously- what you see isn't always a "persona" Amy Winehouse for example was exactly what she portrayed. I don't care enough about Ke$ha to find out if that is the case withher or not- I think she is talentless and turn her off whenever she comes on the radio- what I HAVE had to listen to is because of my teenager....

WHAT exactly did Amy Winehouse 'portray?' Get your teen some earbuds, for heaven's sake. The grownups own the outloud music in my house. Kids can be seen but not heard, lol! (They actually prefer it)

I acutally thought that was a mad up pop girl name from the nick show Victorious. It was re running for about the 15th time this month on Nickelodean and when she sang her song I thought it sounded too familiar to just be in my head from the show.. I asked my wife if that was a real song and she named off a couple more Kesha songs I had heard.

They are what they are. Just dance toons to get your drank on. I can dig it.

I hardly think these lyrics are so inappropriate they warrant a DIS thread on them, this might be one of the silliest threads I've read lately.

:lmao: Do topics have to pass some kind of artistic merit test to warrant a thread on The Dis? Have you seen some of the threads started on this board? Heck, a couple weeks ago, a lady started a thread about the fact that her son just threw up. I kid you not.

Agreed! Love Zooey Deschanel. I could listen to She & Him forever. :lovestruc

I would rather stick a fork in my eye than listen to that. Not my type of music, but I do see the talent, I just hate the music.

Ke$ha probably doesn't have that much talent, Katy Perry I am on the fence about, but their music is fun and has a beat. There is nothing I hate more than that folk type of music.

Thanks:goodvibes It's not like we have a lecture every time one of these songs come on and kill the joy in the music, but we do manage to talk about the lyrics often enough to keep the conversation really going--and hoenstly there are SO many things to cover with teens and preteens these days I might just forget one or two if I did not have great reminderes like music and the DIS (lots of DIS threads are jumping off points in our house too:rotfl:).

I agree with you 100%. My parents were very conservative, but my music was my business and they taught me enough to know that words to songs were just that, only words. I listened to HIghway to Hell, Hells bells, Dirty Deeds among other things, and they didn't do any damage to me. I equate this right up there with parents of pre schoolers not being allowed to watch certain preschool shows because some of the kids are brats on the shows. WEll excuse me, but if you, the parents, taught your kids not to be brats, then they wouldn't be. I am sorry, but if lyrics to a song is going to make your teenager go out an do something that you don't want them to do, they were probably going to do it anyway, so maybe this would be a good opportunity to explain the good, bad, and the VERY ugly of teenage sex. I actually use graffic pics of what can happen, it seems to have worked well.

PS, didn't quote your other post, but we still have Darling Nicky, DH loves it. That is one I haven't let the kids listen to yet.

Ke$ha performed at the Delaware State Fair the other night. I didn't pay to see her, but you could hear the music and see one of the video screens from outside the fence near the grandstand. Wasn't very impressed, but then again I suppose she sounded no worse than many other currently popular performers. She covered Gwen Stefani's "I'm Just a Girl", which was the reason I stopped to watch and listen for a bit.
