After having my little dog "Buckalew" --better know as Bucky--for 16 years (He is at least 17yo) I've decided that it is time to put him down. I will probably do this next Friday before I leave for WDW.

Bucky came to me as a stray. I prayed for a dog exactly like him and he just wandered to my sister's and I received him as a Christmas present 16 years ago. He is a Lhasa Apso. He has been the best little dog and best friend I could ever ask for. I can't really imagine life w/o him. I have had DH for a husband as long as I've had Bud for a dog...

He still eats and drinks but has no quality of life. He can't see too well and his hearing is pretty much gone. He walks crippled up most of the time. For evey good day he has, he has about 4 bad days... :( He sleeps most of the day and night only getting up to go outside.

I'm sure I'll post about this again next week. I'm just trying to prepare myself for one of the most dreaded days I knew that I would face.

I'm so sad to post this. I love this little dog.
Thanks for listening.

:( It's very unselfish of you to love him enough to help him go peacefully.

I'm sorry, but it sounds like it's his time.

{{hugs}}

I'm so sorry you're faced with this decision. Sometimes loving our fur babies means loving them enough to let them go, but it sure hurts. :(

I know this is so hard for you, but I think you have made the right decision. Last summer my cat was diagnosed with cancer about a month before we went to WDW, she lost a LOT of weight, wasn't eating and I was trying to give her chemo. I should have put her down, but I wanted to do everything I could to help her since I had her since she was 2 weeks old. My mom agreed to care for her while we were at WDW and Tigger died the day before we came home. I know my mom tried to do everything she could for her, but I still feel guilty that I let her suffer, even if it was for a short period of time.

I'll be thinking about you - I know what a painful time this is for you.:(

So sorry you're facing this. It's not an easy decision to make but when we love our pets we have to do what's right for them. Our head tells us it's the right thing to do..If only our heart understood. :( Hugs!

I am very sorry. :(

Oh Buck, I'm so sorry! It's so hard, but it's the right thing to do for your buddy. :(

I'm so sorry. :( I use to have a Lhaso Apso named Pali. She lived to be about 16 too. Her hearing was totally gone, she couldn't go outside to potty, her legs were wobbly and sore, it was painful to watch her. We had her put to sleep... it was so hard. But you have to know you're doing the right thing.

So sorry you're having to go through this, but you'll have all those years of wonderful memories with your dog, and hopefully lots of pictures too! :) ((hugs)) to you.

So sorry you have to go through this. But if the little guy is hurting, you are doing him a kindness. Hugs!!

Brenda, you have my heartfelt {{HUGS}} from Chicago! You KNOW you're doing the right thing but, I know you're grieving, also. :( That's a long time to be together and, 'little Buckalew' is lucky to have had YOU all these years!

More {{HUGS}}!! So sorry. :(

This is just heartbreaking. I'm so sorry, Brenda. I hope all the fond memories of your Buckalew remain in your heart.

Oh, Brenda:

You know I went through this with my 17yo cat, Rambo. I remember telling God that I would NEVER find a cat like him again, NEVER. He was the most gentle, sweet, animal, I called him my "forever puppy"...

Well, once again, God proved me wrong and sent me 4 of the sweetest kittens. Each one of them have a Rambo trait. Through my losses of this pass few months, each one of them took time with me and licked away my tears.

You know our God, Brenda. He always sees us through and holds us up because He loves us. He also promises us at least double for our trouble.

I know the pain of losing a pet, it's like losing the unconditional love we've learned to depend on. Know that you will be kept through this and will prosper after.

Love you,

Robinrs

Brenda :( It is hard to lose a pet. I had a Lhasa Apso; they are adorable dogs. I'm so sorry. ((((hugs))))

So sorry to hear about your dog. It's a difficult decision to make, but you are doing the right thing.

Buckalew you are in my thoughts. These are never easy decisions. Best friends grow to be so much a part of us. Some will say he's only a dog, but their wrong.

A sprinkling of pixie dust to ease your pains.
