I have been interested in DVC for about a year now (no idea how it works really) but I'm going to tour BC, AK, and BW during my trip in may. Do I just go to one of those booths and ask them for a tour? Or do I call and set something up?
Either would work. Every hotel/resort in WDW has a DVC desk, and the CM there will be more than happy to arrange a tour for you .
If you have a specific time frame in mind, you can call ahead and arrange for it. The DVC guides are very accomodating.
If you already know what day and time you'd like to tour, you can call and pre-arrange it now, if you wish.
However, the booths can give you a quick overview, and they will call and set up a tour time that is convenient for you during your stay. So either way will work fine. They will provide transportation to/from the sales center at SSR for your tour.
Those resorts all have booths where you can arrange a tour, but you can't "tour" BC or BW. Those resorts are sold out. You can only tour the resorts they are selling - SSR and AKL. Some people have managed to look at a room in sold out resorts by sweet talking the front desk at that particular resort, but it will depend on how busy the resort is (obviously they are not going to boot someone out of a room so you can see it), and if they have someone available to take you up to a room.
Thanks for the responses. Since BC, BW are sold out, I can't have my 'home' there? It looks like the CM is going to be super busy answering my questions!

As noted, the DVC tour is at SSR where the sales center and the models are located. There is also a model accessible at BWV for that resort (it's next to the Big River Grille).
You can visit BCV, VWL and OKW but there is no sales staff there to show you around. Many have just asked at the front desk to see a villa - if they have one vacant and already cleaned they are usually happy to let you take a look.
All DVC resorts may be purchased thru your guide, but they are most interested in selling SSR and AKV at this time. Some of the resorts might even require a waitlist for a purchase as points are limited at times.
I would definitley plan to take the tour at the sales center.

They have booths set up at every resort. DVC is well worth it. You will save tens of thousands of dollars in the long run. Some people do not see this. Example, factor what your lodging costs regularly. Then compare it with a DVC price/package. My DVC was paid off by the third trip. Now, my lodging is free every time I go. Where as If I was not a memeber I would still be paying BIG$$$$$. Not to mention the member benefits. It is worth it especially if you plan on going every other year or every year.
I'm trying to find where the thread is where it lists the points you need, for the resort and time you want to go. But I can't seem to find it...does anyone have a link?
Thank you for all the help!
I enjoy staying at deluxes so I know buying in would save me a ton down the road.

Ok I read this thread and we need to work on your resort letters . I know what you mean but you need to use BCV,BWV,or VAK for the DVC resorts since all are sistered to a WDW resort. BC and BCV, BWI and BWV and AKL and VAK. this helps newbies who are with the resorts Abbr. and me.
Taking a tour of the existing resorts is are great idea. You can buy SSR or AKV but you may like OKW, VWL, BCV or BWV better.
As noted above, you can see a model at BWV but DVC sales center is over at Saratoga. There you can see a studio, 1bd, 2bd and a grand villa model. They have also just opened a studio and 1bd mock-up for the AKV resort.
DVC is more then accomadating in picking you up for the tour and dropping you off. They will pick you up at your resort and drop you off at a park when your down.
I would suggest learning as much as you can about DVC before you tour. It will help you to have specific questions to ask the guides. I see that you're interested in BCV or BWV, you should know the ending date for those contracts would be 2042. SSR will be 2054, and AKV will be 2057. These boards are a wealth of information, and some of the people here know more about the program than the guides.
