I think I might actually be all "DISed Out"

Just got back from 5 nights at FW. This was my 5th trip this year, my 8th over the last two years, with another already planned for next month.

I can't beleive I'm saying this, but the spark was gone. I felt like we were just going through the motions. We didn't over plan this trip, just went were we felt like, ate what we felt like, but somehow, the magic is starting to fade.

I was really hoping the YOAMD would add some extra fun, but we never came across any magic.

The best day we had was spent at FW. We swam, then the kids played on the playground, then they had a pony ride.

Now that I'm home I a little sad, because planning for WDW helps me get through my stressful job as a hospice nurse and mother of an autistic child. It gives me something to look foward to. :guilty:

:grouphug:

Maybe just relaxing, resort days are what you need.

:grouphug: I'm so sorry! I'd be lost without my Dis addiction. One trip a year is about all I can manage though....however, I'm currently planning a trip to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea...maybe just little bit of change would be fun...
I can totally relate to the De-stressing effect of planning for WDW...I'm a small business owner...you know the kind where just because you go home...the work is home with you? DISing really helps...either that or a stiff drink!

Sorry to hear that the "bug" didn't bite you this time! Maybe a short break from it all? Perhaps you could plan a small trip somewhere else? Then the disappointment of a trip to anywhere other than WDW will bring you back! :thumbsup2

There was a time that DH and I felt that way too....we were going a lot so we scaled it back to 4 times a year max. We go for the F&W, MVMCP, the flower even in Epcot for sure.

DH likes to relax around the resorts and that has helped us too...no more all day events at the parks. We get up when we want and take things slow. It made all the difference in the world.

This was my 5th trip this year :

That's about 3 more trips than many people make in a lifetime. I think you can go to WDW often and enjoy every moment. Try going once or twice a year, and I think you'll enjoy it more. When you do go, try some different things including relaxing at the resort and having some nice leisurely meals without worrying about being late for a parade, show, fireworks, etc.:earsboy:

I can actually understand where on the 5th trip of a year where you might feel that way. There was a time that I couldn't imagine going every year, but I do that now and I love it, but it seems there is always something new that I'm excited to see or do...like for my upcoming trip I'm very excited to see the new Nemo show at AK and the new castle show, High School Musical show ect....but if you go that often, there's nothing new to see maybe?

Maybe break up your trips so you go when the extra things are going on like Flower and Garden, MNSSHP, MVMCP, Food & Wine Festival ect....

For my next trip, I'm planning a little less park time and budgeting some time in to explore the resorts more and DTD Westside...I've never made it there.
Something else to look forward to.

You are in trouble, leave now.

It might be cliche, but moderation is good in all areas of life. Hard to admit it, but you can even have too much Disney. Part of the fun with Disney (or any great destination) is the build up and anticipation, then the experience itself. Just my opinion, but it seems normal that you would become bored or disinterested if you have so many trips under your belt over the past two years.

I was struck by your last sentence, "it gives me something to look forward to"....that's true for many of us, and for many different reasons. The escape that planning for and going to Disney provides for adults is undeniable. Life is good, but we do reside in a sometimes harsh and cruel world, and many of us move through life at a frenetic pace and we all have our share of burdens (some minor, some just way too much).

Anyway, I'd say take Disney in smaller doses...try some other destinations and apply that same planning approach. Over time, I'll be that Disney magic comes back.

I'm sorry you feel that the Magic is starting to fade. Like others have suggested a change to Disneyland or even a Disney cruise might help. With you being a hospice nurse and the mother of an autistic child I feel you need all the Magic you can get!

From someone who has felt the special magic of hospice nurses, thank you for your care.

I always enjoy to hear how people feel on this subject because I find it quite interesting. Every time I am in Disney I have so much fun, the subject always comes up wouldnt you like to live in Florida so you could come here all the time, and to me I always say no. Part of the magic for me is the anticipation, the ride to the airport, the plane flight down from NY, MCO etc etc. and I also think if I did that more than 2 or 3 times in a year, for me the magic would start to wear off the whole trip not just my stay at Disney.

I have also heard the saying that repetition dulls the senses, so a little bit too much of one thing becomes repetitive and loses its luster. I can totally see how five times in one year could lose the charm for you.

Not sure my post conveys how I feel, but this is what works for me.

oh my, to have such a problem to have been to DIsney too many times! let alone to have opportunity to leave work on holidays that often!

ok seriously, time for a break me things. too much of any good thing is, too much. yes, even for Disney. try a new holiday. if your best day was at the resort, why not plan a caribbean getaway somewhere? or a few long weekends away to other resorts? not sure where u live, but i for one love going to the adirondacks for weekend getaways!

I understand going a lot. You can't see it all otherwise but then suddenly a little burnt out. I'd take a year or two off, allow time for more new things to show up. I'm feeling similarly. For me, I'm getting over the attractions. I still like the Disney feel of things and dining at new places and visiting resorts but do I care about riding Peter Pan again, not really, done it enough. It's a little fustrating how often the rides at MK and Epcot go down for repair too, IMHO. We try other parks and other Orlando area offerings as well. Since maybe its the planning that takes your mind off of things, maybe plan your next trip to do all NON Disney things on this one trip and see how it goes. After 8 trips you are a Disney expert but planning something different might be an interesting challange.

Maybe you are looking at a symptom rather than what is really troubling you. You might want to look inward. You are under tremendous stress and it may be time to help yourself. The stresses that you have been under may have triggered depression or anxiety. A well-trained professional would be able to help you sort it out. I speak as someone who has been through the same.

2 words: UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!!!!! :rotfl:

No, seriously....I agree with others who have already stated that maybe your visits are a little too frequent. (did I actually say that??? ) My son always says "Wouldn't it be great to live in Orlando so we could go to WDW all the time?" NO WAY!!!! Ruins the magic!!! Everything in small doses...stops the hum-drums from setting in!!

PS - Universal IS a ton of fun also!!!! :thumbsup2

I have a different opinion, other than frequency of visits, on why you may not have felt the "magic" this trip. My feeling is similar to balletomane's, speaking from experience, also.

Prior to moving here 2 years ago, I used to visit WDW every year since 1971. If we skipped a year, we would end up going 2x the next year. On our last 'trip' here, I just didn't feel any excitement & could not understand why. I also wondered if I had had enough of WDW. (BTW, I didn't enjoy Universal Studios that visit either ;) ) I even stopped visiting these boards for over a year. I didn't realize until months later that I was preoccupied with personal issues & worries & they were obviously festering in me without my even knowing it & this caused me to not fully appreciate our trip. I knew I had some stressful issues, but I didn't feel depressed, so I didn't realize that they were bothering me to the extent that they did & affected how I responded to things.

How can I be sure? Because we now live close to WDW & go, on average, once a week. In the past 2 weeks we've been there 5 times & I can say that, since we've moved here, I have not had a lackluster experience in WDW yet. I changed my s/n on the DIS [kind of like a 'new beginning'], began planning & researching more/different things to do in WDW & now look forward to each visit there - whether it be a 1 hr. visit, full day, or even staying on-site.

I would recommend trying again & maybe looking into doing some different things, along with some favorite familiars, but not until after you see if there are other issues keeping you from your "joy". I hope the best for you!

Good lord, five trips in a year? I should think you'd be burned out...take a break and go somewhere else next year. I love Disney, but there is a whole world out there beyond WDW!

It's all a matter of perspective and how you view the world on different trips over time.

In going often, you can't look at it like a novelty; like something you haven't done before or something that is going to surprise you every time you're there.

If you're a WDW veteran, you have to treat it like a SECOND HOME...embrace the feeling of COMFORT and FAMILIARITY when you visit. It's no longer about the WOW FACTOR...it's more about the relaxing AHHHHHH FACTOR!

Trust me, I know. I now live in Tampa (since about 96). The first day trip or two to each park WAS about the WOW. Then I got passes. Then it became home away from home. Now I go there 2-3 times a month, sometimes more.

It's all how you look at it.
