I think I learned the request trick

I always request near South Point and specifically buildings 45 or 46 each trip. I rarely get what I request, but I do usually get South Point. When we checked in last week (I did do online check in), I had requested South Point and Canal view thinking that I would have at least a chance of buildings 45 or 46, since the only other buildings with canal views are 55 and 56, and those would be fine too. When I went to pick up our packet, the girl at check in said only the South Point request was listed. It seems that if you make two requests, you had better have your main one listed first! At least that's the way it seems to be at OKW.

I thought I would pass that along, since I know requests are often difficult. Oh, and it seems they keep buildings 45 and 46 empty unless you push for them. I'm not sure why that is, but the building was less than half full the whole time we were there. In fact, there seemed to be only one 2 bedroom, our 1 bedroom and one studio next to us occupied the whole week.

Oh, and they tried to give me building 50 again like they did in March. I would stay there if there was nothing else available, but it backs up to the highway and is a long trek to the bus.

Maybe it's more cost effective (for utilities and housekeeping) to keep entire sections or buildings empty if the resort isn't at capacity?

Just curious, do you have any idea why they'd keep buildings 45 and 46 empty? At least that might explain why, in all our stays, we've never gotten those either of those two buildings.

We have noticed more of a mold/mildew issue in 45 & 46.

Interesting Diane, at Thanksgiving, as we're checking in around 10 am, I was told that our 2 bd villa was not ready yet (I had requested #43 Turtle Pond) but that they could get me in right away in building 50. I said no, we're in no hurry, heading to DTD to get tickets, then an early lunch and then groceries, just please text when the villa's ready! When we came back at 3pm, villa still not ready, another CM offered me #50 again, I said I'd prefer something else, I wasn't familiar with #50, so we took a villa in #34 instead.

I wonder what it is about building 50, it seems to be quite available?

Snakes and other creatures from the Trumbo Canal???

When we checked in last month, they tried to give us building 50 too. The friends we were meeting were in 64 and my uncle, also on our 'travel with' request had no building assigned yet. Our reservations showed the 'travel with' request but it was overlooked. They were able to get us in building 31 and my uncle in 32. Not exactly close to 64, but closer than 50!

We were assigned building 46 for our first DVC stay...beginners luck, I guess, I had actually requested Turtle Point for that trip, but we were very happy with bldg 46.

If you make multiple requests on your reservation, regardless of whether it's online check in or a regular check in, it's important to make a note of what is most important because when your reservation is being reviewed for selection into a room they look at your requests and do what they can, I can tell you that much. However room assignment is way more tricky than you might think, there are CM's dedicated to figuring out days in advance which reservations go into which rooms. It's not easy. And when you have a really common request that many others make, it makes it that much harder. It depends on your request, AND your travel dates. If there is a room that fits your requests but you are staying for 7 days, and another guest has the same requests but only staying for 3 nights and that room is available for 4 nights, guess which guest will get that room? Something I always told guests when working front desk with disney (I don't anymore so my knowledge is quite rusty) is that requests are NOT guaranteed! The only way to guarantee certain rooms is to actually pay for those room locations, IF applicable.
