I booked with the room-only code that expired on 2/28. I booked CR GW-GV and my total was $1,113.74. As far as I can tell the non-discounted price is $1,650 pre-tax. This is less than 60% on the room. But 55% of $1,650 is $907.50. Add in the 12.5% tax and it is $1,113.75. A penny more than my total. Now I also booked an AS Sports room for the same nights and it was over $5 more than it should have been with 35% off, unless I am off on the tax.

Did anyone else have the same experience with the 35%-40% code that expired on 2/28?

$1650 x .40 = $660 (the discount)

$1650-660 = $990 final room price

$990 x 1.125 tax = $1113.75.

You got 40% off.

I don't know exactly what you did above, but $907.50 x 1.125 in tax does NOT equal $1113.75.

I've read on this board (although it was in 2009 and nothing recently) that tax was figured on the rate rate. $990 + $206.25 (12.5% on $1650) did not add up to $1113.74. But $907.50 (45% off) + $206.25 is $1113.75.

Good to know I was misinformed about how tax is applied, as I have been taking that into consideration when deciding to upgrade to Tower.

You must be book keepers or something related to business! There is no way I could just figure that stuff up. Thank goodness for the Dis! I love that there are people here who have varied skills to help others!:thumbsup2

I think it would be illegal to charge tax on anything other than what you actually pay. The only time you pay tax based on the regular price would be if you're bascailly exchanging a voucher for a night's stay; in this case you would pay tax on regular price.

So then maybe I got that from 4/3 thread back when Disney was running the promo and assumed it applied all discounts. I was checking out Swan/Dolphin rates and found this in the terms and conditions for their current 5/1 deal "Full room tax, resort charge, and additional person costs must be collected on the free nights". Did they do that with the 4/3?

TWO YEARS I have thought this is how it works...Wow :rotfl2:
