I switched to suave shampoo about 4-6 months ago and my hair seems to be falling out

How did the Dr figure this out? Do they do allergy tests on your scalp? I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm really wondering. My Aunt has an appointment with her Dr next week because she's losing hair in clumps too. Did it grow back?

Mine was thankully not falling out in clumps. I was at the Dr for a physical and just mentioned that I thought more hair was falling out than normal and when he looked at my scalp he noticed it was a bit red and irritated. I was allergy tested a few years ago and they found I was sensitive to many fragrances and he thinks that it was the fragrance that was causing it. I am not allergic to it but sensitive.

Suave is the ONLY shampoo I use on my hair anymore. I used to use the higher end products from the salons and they did nothign for my hair. I started buying PAntene at the store and that was a disaster. When I switched to Suave, I got my shine back and my hair always feels and looks healthy.

I started losing my hair last summer in large clumps. It wasn't the shampoo. I have a hormone imbalance as well as some other things going on. My suggestion would be to call the Dr. ASAP.

Agreed.....Make sure they check your TSH and T4 and free t3 and t4 and your other pituitary hormones also get a Vitamin d and B12 check......your levels might be off:confused3. Hope they figure it out. Also, you could be anemic :confused3. I know stress can also cause that issue, but usually it is just breakage not really too bad..... Hope you find out what the cause is, Hair loss is the pits!:headache:

Just wanted to post an update.

It was an issue caused by a chemical in the shampoo. Basically the doctor said that it seems my skin is sensitive to harsher products. I don't have anything medically wrong with me except for an allergy to what I was using. I went back to using my normal product and tossed the other crap in the trash and my hair is fine now. I'm getting lots of new hair growth so things seem to be getting back to normal. My hair is back to being soft and not so "straw" like. My doctor said she gets people in with the same issue and sometimes its because of new birth control pills, different medicines that the person might be taking. But not in my case since I'm not on any sort of medication, no recent stresses or major life changes and have no medical issues.

All of this was because of a friend leaving her bottles of shampoo here so that she didn't have to transport it back on a plane to go back home. I felt bad about just tossing it so I used it. Never again-anything left at my place is being tossed.

Not to be nitpicky and petty, but the shampoo that caused the allergic reaction is not "crap"- you are just allergic to an ingredient in it. Many people use that brand and are happy with it, so calling it crap is, IMO, a bit harsh. You wouldn't call peanut butter "crap" just because you found out you had a nut allergy, would you?

If someone is using the shampoo and is happy with it they shouldn't really be concerned with my opinion about the product. I wouldn't be offended if someone called the brand of soap I was using "crap" because it caused a rash on them. Because after all to them it was just that piece of junk that did this and that to them.

Well next time, you can just offer to let your friend use your shampoo instead.

I used to use suave, without a problem. But I decided to go back to my old shampoo from long ago. It's so concentrated, that I barely have to use any and the small bottle lasts me a lot longer than suave did. So it's even cheaper than the cheap stuff.

Thanks for the update.I wouldn't blame you either:rolleyes1

I've used Suave and my hair looks as good as it does with the expensive shampoos from the stylist.

ETA- stop using it if it doesn't work for you. Get checked by your doctor because you may have either an allergy or illness that is causing your hair to fall. It could be your thyroid or other hormones.

Well, I'm glad you found out what the problem was. I can use any kind of shampoo, but the conditioner makes a big difference for me. And expensive isn't always better, but I do love a slightly pricey one from the health food store. It makes my hair so soft.

BUT. . .I wanted to say that lately my hair had been falling out a lot! I have long hair and so usually shed quite a bit, but you could have knitted a sweater with all the hair I was losing! :scared1: My Mom kept telling me it was stress, and I thought maybe it was hormonal. . .BUT I noticed my multi vitamin didn't have iron in it, and I've had anemia issues before, so I started taking iron again. Well, it's been a week and no more massive shedding! Yay!

So always best to get it checked out. Hair loss can be caused by lots of different things.

I agree with Nacy, Suave has been in our family for over 20 yrs, and don't seem to have that problem, i don't know what to tell you.

I've switched to one of the suave shampoos that is apparently a generic for a shampoo that promises up to 87% less breakage and I'm loving it! I've got long hair and it definitely helps keep it from breaking off plus my hair looks beautiful and shiny.
Unfortunately die to some health issues I can expect to soon start losing a lot of hair. I am so dreading it! I'm doing all suggested by my doc to prevent it but still very nervous.
