I STILL haven't gotten my Girl Scout cookies!

I ordered some from my niece, and when I inquired about them last week knowing everyone else had gotten theirs, my SIL told me that their troop takes all the boxes that people order and sell them outside of Walmart, and then reorder ours later! If it wasn't my niece, I would have told her not to bother and bought them locally from some girls here. My MIL and I couldn't believe that was what they did... we want our thin mints!!!!!

Is that unusual, or normal for troops to do?

That doesn't sound "legal", but what do I know. I know if someone told me that I would not be happy. I would buy them from someone else. Not a good way to do business, if you ask me.

From a business perspective, doesn't sound very smart.

But just think, when all of us have eaten the last crumb of our Thin Mints and Samoas, you will still have your boxes left, then we can be jealous of you! :goodvibes

I'm trying to find a local Girl Scout, as DH is annoyed that we ordered 3 boxes of thin mints and only one box of Samoas. :rotfl: :rotfl: (I prefer Thin Mints)

I have never heard of this and I have been selling cookies for over 30 years. Your nieces troop has a unique way of doing it! Next year tell her you will just drop by the store front sale so you get them earlier.

i've never heard of anyone doing this either but we just got our girl scout cookies so maybe you haven't been waiting as long as you think.

:)

It is quite common around here. It is often recommended as a way to have a risk free booth sale. You take orders, order the cookies, have the sale, and replace what you sold with a "catch-up" order. That way you're not stuck with a lot of extra cookies after the booth sale. Our cookie delivery was Feb 15, and our catch-up order came in March 4. It is very legal, as no one has paid for their cookies in advance. I have a few customers we can't find at home who we still haven't delivered to. You really can't wait a couple of weeks for your cookies?

Do you disclose this information to those ordering from you??

I'd be peeved also! If I wanted to wait until the end of the sales I'd buy in front of the store.

I just wish they would have been upfront about it - esp since we have been asked by so many other people about buying them, and turned them all down thinking we'd have some coming... My MIL sold them to several of her friends, and when they found out how delayed they would be, they canceled their order and bought from someone else. They should have just told their customers that in advance, I think.

I would not order from them again and just buy them outside the food store where the girl scouts sell them on the weekend! My daughters troops hasn't even started to sell theirs yet, we don't start selling until March 17th so hopefully everyone who got theirs from other troops will be done with them and ready for more by then!

Another troop leader here and I have never heard of that practice. We have to submit our orders by a certain date and from what I undestand we can't place another order at a later date. Sounds a little odd to me. :confused3

You haven't gotten yours and I've eaten THREE boxes.... that doesn't seem fair does it????

That is odd. I'm the cookie chair for our troop, and I ordered an extra case of each cookie for the booth sales, on top of the girls' orders. If we need more, we go to the "cookie cupboard" and get them there.

Technically, what your nieces troop does is true, if you don't sell the boxes you ordered on the TI (original order form turned in for the troop), you have to find a way to pay for them; thy're non-returnable. But if you get extra from the cupboard, those you can return if unsold.

However, the way they handled it is bad business. The leader didn't make the greatest decision there. :confused3

Our entire COUCIL is doing that this year. They wanted us to use OUR ordered cookies and have booths before distributing them to our patrons. I just ordered LOTS extra for the booth and let my parents and girls hand theirs out this year. I think that it is a STUPID idea!

I'm used to waiting 2 months for girl scout cookies. I order from one of my coworkers to be nice...and I'm used to waiting a while for them. I haven't seen ANYONE around here yet with GS cookies

It would really make me angry if I ordered cookies, then they were selling them outside stores before I got mine. I probably wouldn't order anymore.

We sold cookies to friends, family and neighbors first. Then we delivered their cookies to them. AND THEN... we went to the bank to sell cookies. If we needed more cookies for friends and family who didn't order enough the first time, there was time to get the cookies to them before the sale ended. I don't blame you for being upset!! What if you want more?!??!?!

Another cookie mom here....... :flower:
We did our preorders and ordered additional for booth sales. Pre orders are delivered first. For the second booth sale we use the cookie cupboard to fill in where we're low.
