I Saw United 93.

I hadn't planned to see the movie. I'm not at all interested in the dramatization of what happened in the plane. No movie can be more dramatic than the day itself to me.

But I have long been fascinated by the logistics of it all. Air traffic controllers, the military, etc. Was this a big focus, or a few scenec here and there? Because I'd like to see all that.

Dawn and/or Lindsay, did you see Flight 93 that the above poster said will be on A&E tonight?? I am going to go ahead and watch it and then am considering going to see United 93 tomorrow. How would you compare the two??

Flight 93 was presented as a documentary. United 93 had "tension". I felt stressed watching it, wanting it to end differently. It had a more dramatic effect on me. It brought me back to that day and tied in all of the events together.

It was a big focus. I would say that it was almost half of the movie with the scenes going back and forth from the plane to the ATC. I loved that part. It took me out of that plane for a while and it was interesting watching how it unfolded to the controllers and the military. These are dedicated people. They are focused. It is interesting what we "see" as individuals. That was a big part of the movie for me and the poster who didn't care for the movie didn't seem to mention ATC. I wasn't aware that it was a significant part of the movie until I saw it.

I have not seen Flight 93 but I have it set to tape tonight. I will watch it tomorrow.

Mouseworshipin, like Dawn said, there was a LOT about the ATC, military, etc. I was truly suprised at home much focus there was.

Yes, coming from someone who can't make dinner if there are dirty dishes in the sink. I hate clutter. If you ever get a chance to spend some time in a control tower, it is absolutely amazing. Not only what they do but the people who do it. I was invited back and I wish I went. I could have sat in the corner for 8 hours and just observed. Its a study in human behavior and watching someone execute their tasks perfectly. It has to be perfect. I think it is hard to get into a control tower these days since 9/11.

Dawn, I just want to thank you for your kind words about ATC. Seems everywhere I turn I hear criticism and how overpaid ATC is. I am a former ATC--12 years at an enroute facility--now medically retired--my last year as a supervisor. My husband is still a controller at Miami Tower in the approach control. 18 years for him. We are in the midst of a contract negotiation. Not to hijack the thread but did you see the thread I posted a week or two ago? http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1084932

In talking with my friends about that day, I know they went through a lot. It was a scary day. I wasn't working that day. I just watched it on tv same as everyone else.

Edited to add that it is hard to get into the facility these days. My 9yo is begging her father to take her, but they just don't approve of that these days. No "take your child to work day" for them on Thursday.

ATC overpaid? Are you kidding me?!? I think they deserve every penny they get!!!!!

Thanks for the reviews. Not sure if I will see it at the theatre, or wait for it on DVD. Will talk to DH about it.
This summer we will be staying right by ground zero at the Hilton Millennium (which suffered damage and reopened) on our NY trip. I'm sure that will be hard.

Bumping b/c the A&E version of Flight 93 is on RIGHT NOW

I won't see this at the theatre - I just can't... didn't see the Passion of the Christ at the theatre, either - actually have the DVD at home and still haven't seen it - again, I just can't.

Thanks Dawnct for posting your review. We plan to see it also, but were not able to make it today. I value your opinion, and was glad to read it before seeing it for myself.

Only in daring to remember will we change.

I would really like to see this movie, but we live in a small town and our movie place is not showing it :(
I think that is a shame.

The closest place we can see it is almost 2 hrs away.
We will probably wait until it comes on DVD and watch it then

I am a person who will wait until it comes out on video before I see it. I can still remember, see and feel all of that pain from the tv. I'm not sure that I'm ready to watch it on the big screen. I think that it is an event that you will never forget!

I only have one question...how bad was it to see the towers being hit on the big screen? Ok, 2 questions...did they show the actual news footage of that or was it special effects?

That is the only thing that might stop me from seeing this movie right now, I'm not sure how I would handle seeing those images on the big screen.

It was shown in a control tower on a video screen (actual footage) and then there was footage of smoke coming from the first tower. It wasn't too overwhelming.

Tina, I know what you mean. I couldn't watch either flick in a theatre. Too much emotion.

I have yet to watch "The Passion." Maybe one day, not yet though.

I'm transfixed enough by 9/11/01 footage that I'll have to see this movie eventually, but it'll have to be at home where it's private.

Thanks Dawn for posting the review and Lindsay for posting her views on this movie.

We will be going to see this movie soon in the theater. It is something we feel we have to do because if we didn't see this movie what would we say to ourselves. I hope I'm making some sense....

Courageous doesn't even begin to describe the heroes on that plane.

I just got back from watching it. It was numbing. Not the best movie to see for a night out. You are right. The theater was very quiet. They kept the theater very dark when we walked out at the end.No one said a word. It brought back memories of 9/11. WOW. Can'nt say I would recommed it. I think I would have rather seen it at home. You almost need to be by yourself to process it.

I wonder how well this movie will do in the theater?

I will probably go see in a week or two if I have the time. I think that it's an important film in many ways.

I went to the 9:45 showing. I thought the theater would be paced on opening weekeknd. The Theater was less than half full.
