Sadly, I had to cancel my first ever Christmas trip to WDW with my two sisters. Our Dad was very ill so we had to cancel our vacation. He is OK now though, although frailer. I would have had to cancel anyhow as my doctor told me I had to have a total knee replacement right away. I had the surgery on Oct. 20 and despite some very rough weeks, I am mending nicely now. I just wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes.

I will have my other knee done in the spring and then hopefully WDW in Dec 2011!! For any of you who have had knee replacements - how long afterwards did you wait to go to WDW and do you use a wheelchair and/or ECV? I am not sure if I will ever be able to do the 8-10 miles a day we did in 2008 anymore.

Sorry to hear about your need to cancel. Hope everyone has a great Christmas, even though it won't be where you planned it to be.

For the question about an ECV and Spring, I guess you will have to play it by ear. Even if you are doing very well, your everyday life is not likely to include as many miles as a day at WDW. So, I would plan on an ECV. If you choose to park it and walk in an area before getting back on and moving to a new area, you will have a lot of options.

Hey deanie, I had mine done in mid July and am just now getting back into the swing of life. I am pooh sized and went back to work (3 jobs-don't ask, lol) way too soon--at 5 weeks. This set my healing back about a month. We are going for our 25th anniversary in 26 days. I was just saying to DH that I am not sure I can do the 8-10 miles a day that I used to do on my bad knees. He said that he knew I would need a wheelchair and not to worry about it.

Our plan is slow and steady and to have fun! I, too, will be having my other knee done, but next summer. It is awesome when the weather changes, all I have now is surgery pain on that knee--the ache is all gone!!!:thumbsup2 Good luck and be gentle with yourself. Everyone heals differently.
