We had someone do that on our first day last year; she said she was getting ready to leave and just asked that if we could to pay it forward. We did, on our last day, too!
We have received and we have given. I think many people do. Sometimes you are just not hungry, or someone in your group does not show for the sit down meal. It happens even the best of planners.
Happy to report we were able to do it again this trip! We had a group of 8 and I purposely underbooked our ADR because you know how travelling with a group of 8 can be... We wound up buying lunch for a bride and groom at Yak and Yeti and breakfast for a family of 4 at o'Hana. I also gifted some snacks of Mickey bars and popcorn the last day. I think I love this way more the enjoyment of the meal and may under book on purpose when we use the dining plan. Everyone is just so thankful and it feels like you are helping being part of the magic.
One exception: A family from Brazil could not understand why I was buying them 3 boxes of popcorn. She kept trying to pay me. I loved the look on her face when she finally realized it was a gift.
Well, now I feel bad. I always bring stuff to give out to kids who are behaving well in line or waiting for a show to start. Stickers, glow sticks, etc. I always ask the parents first and they've always been appreciative. You make it sound like a bad thing!
OP, I love Lincoln, NE. I live a state away and was there on Sunday and will be there again on Thursday. Several of my cousins live there and my cousin from Lincoln and her family were at Disney 3 yrs. ago when my family made our first trip. We didn't plan it that way but met up a couple of times. Lincoln is a BIG city compared to my tiny town, but anytime we go we always meet kind, friendly and helpful people. I am so happy for your family. What a wonderful experience.
PS....we will have one member of our group who I already know will not use all his dp credits. I didn't know we could pass them on to someone else. We will for sure make good use of them now!
