I rebeled against Carvel and made my own ice cream cake!

Okay, here is the picture of the cake I made. As I said, it's nothing really fancy or professional looking but I'm thinking it will be DELICIOUS!!!

(don't mind the shadow from me taking the pic! LOL)

oh gosh! That pic is huge. :/ How do I make it smaller??? sorry folks.

okay, here is the pic....only smaller!! LOL

Good for you! :thumbsup2 I did the same thing a few years ago when my (then) 6 year old wanted an ice cream cake for 26 friends. They were asking $52.00 :scared1:
So I made a large ice cream cake using ice cream sandwiches as the outside and 2 layers of ice cream with hot fudge sauce in the middle. YUM! And less than $15.00
I am going to try the copy cat recipe for carvel crunchies cuz that would be awesome!

that sounds yummy!!!!! I may have to do that this summer for our 5 year old's birthday!

Aw, it's very pretty, I'm sure she'll be excited to get at it with the coloured sprinkles all over!

Cookie Puss is a Carvel cake (it's a standard pre-made one along with Fudgie the Whale). That was the special, somewhat terrifying St. Patrick's Day version I believe, heh. Regular Cookie Puss is less green.

thanks. :cutie: I'm sure we'll all love the taste of it. I've never seen either one of those types of Carvel cakes but it's cute for sure!

I make one for DH too. I can't see spending $30 when I can make it for under $10. My friend makes her cookie crumbs but putting oreos and magic shell in her food processor.

Great job! I too made one today for dd's birthday. But I make a brownie/ice cream cake, its so good!

Ice cream cakes are good, but I'm old-fashioned: I just top a big ole piece of chocolate cake with a big ole scoop of vanilla ice cream fresh from the container. Oh wait - maybe I'm just cheap, not old fashioned :lmao:

You guys are the best....I made an ice cream cake for Easter with all of your suggestions ....in a springform pan...ice cream sandwiches on the side...mint chocolate chip on the bottom...homemade carvel crunchies....vanilla bean on the top...hot fudge....then covered with cool whip. It was awesome. I wish I had taken a picture but we ate it too quickly. Thanks for all the tips:goodvibes

Sounds so YUMMY! Wish we could have seen it before it was devoured!!!

Here is the essential "Carvel" Crunchies recipe for our budget minded Ice Cream Cakes....:) Sorry it's in Grams, but I think 50 grams is similar to 1/4cup.

Chocolate Streusel

50 grams unsalted butter
50 grams sugar
50 grams almond flour (finely ground almonds..just put in spice grinder)
40 grams flour
10 grams cocoa powder
pinch of salt

Cream all ingredients together until a ball forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze until it hardens. When it is solid, grate it with a large grater or even through a food grinder. You will get little pieces of streusel. Refrigerate right away.

When the pieces of streusel are hard again, spread them on a sheetpan and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 12 minutes. Let the streusel cool and store in an airtight container until ready to use.
Do these taste like the crunchies from Carvel? If they do I'll be making them in a heartbeat!
