I really wish they would announce sooner if they are going to free dinning this year .... Be impatient as always ... Who is with me??????????:worship:

ME!!!! I'm with ya! I booked with dining anyway, but it would save me a ton if they have the free dining again!:teacher:

I can't remember where I read this, but someone stated that they would not be doing the free dining this year. I hope they are wrong, but I guess we will all have to wait and see.

P.S. It was not on these boards where I read it.

We are waiting very patiently for the free dining also!!! I keep checking every day to see if they have announced it!!! If I don't book this trip soon, I may drive myself crazy!!!

You can always book your trip and add "free" dining to it if/ when it is offered.

I say "free" dining because when I added it to my trip this past September, I had to pay $135 for 2 people/ 4 nights in order to get it. Free? I don't think so! Just be sure that you do the math, and realize that you must pay rack rate for your room. Our $135 difference was the AAA discount, which we lost when we requested "free" dining. Don't get me wrong, it can be a good deal - especially if you have more than 2 people in your room - but it is NEVER free.

I think the announcement was to not expect their ongoing deals like they have had lately to continue later this year.

I really doubt they would discontinue free dining in its original time frame of mid-August to late September. Otherwise, they would never fill all of those rooms a) right after school starts b) in the ongoing late summer heat and humidity and c (most importantly) during the height of hurricane season.

I think they were referring to free dining not continuing into October, November and December like it did this past year.

I would not be surprised though to see free dining be slightly modified to offer only quick service free dining for the values, and regular dining plan for moderates and deluxes.

Free dining was announced in mid-March last year if I'm not mistaken. We took advantage, but because of the record heat this past, I won't do it again.

we went last year and stayed at movies and got free dinning and it turned out to be a good deal but we had four people so it did work out. This year my daughter and I will just be going so hopefully it will because I did some research and my daughter and I picked out our restaurants and looked at the menus and we added everything even with tax and from the package price with dinning we still were gona save on food .....But to each his own thats why you can either take part in it or not .....

We booked BB for Sept but now I want to move the trip back a week. Not sure if I should call and see if they'll move it back on the BB (doubt it..?) or if I need to wait for free dining to come out. Sigh!

We always stay off property, but I would really like to try free dining at least once. We always go on a pretty tight budget and have never tried most of the pricey on-site restaurants that I keep reading about. I'm hoping with all of you!!

I'm going to move this over to the resort code/rates/deals board.

We are also holding out for the FREE dining offer. We went last year for the first time and missed the FREE dining by 2 days ( I was not happy:mad:) Since it was our first time I chose to go ahead and pay for the DDP. It was a great experience but we think for our family of 5 (12 year old twins & 10 year old) we would get off cheaper paying for food, but we haven't "crunched" our numbers YET!! I am just hoping that they offer the FREE dining when we go Sept. 12.

Question:
As a military family, getting the $99 military tickets, we are going to be staying at the All Star Movie Resort and I am dying to make my reservations. Can I go ahead and make reservations and add the dining plan if they offer it FREE.

Katy

Nussbaum- did you miss FD because it ended right before you arrived? I can't remember if they let you have FD for the entire trip as long as you start during the dates they list.

Belle- AP holders have to buy a park ticket, but just buy 1 day regular tickets. Do the math if you have another code (20/30/40) and figure in the cost of that ticket that will be wasted. Well, if you never use your room key to enter a park, then you will not waste the ticket. That is what I did in 2008/ 2009. I was the only family member with an AP. When we arrived, I upgraded the rest of the family to 8 day park hoppers and kept my key in the safe and applied the value to my wife's ticket when we returned in February '09.

I'm hoping they keep it just a 1 day ticket. The 4/7 last year was a 1 day this year you had to purchase the 4 day. Also, when we had the free gift card in May all you had to do was book 5 nights at rack rate in ANY resort and a 1 day pass to get the card. In a value, it was reall worth it. Now you have to purchase the 5 day pass as well as not get 500 for any resort. Hope that's not the new norm. It really doesn't do anything for AP holders. I currently have 4 of those 1 day passes that we are going to use 3 of in Feb to get new APs.

For last year's free dining, all you had to do was check in by the last date of the free dining period.

Either FD or the GC would work for me.
I've crunched the #s for the time frame we're looking at going, and a split stay w/ the GC deal combined w/ our year long pin works out about $100 more than the FD at a mod, but works out much better if we stay at the AKL or WL.

Maybe this will be Disney's marketing scheme - so people like me will think, gee, maybe we should stay at a deluxe!!
