I am kind of digging "Stonewall Manor". But maybe that sounds too serious.
Throwing in Grey Gardens......

Hmmm. Names, huh?
Pity that "Barbary Lane" is already taken. I really like that one.
Off the top of my head here are a couple
Stonewall House
Yellow Brick Road
Harry Hay House
Maupin Manor (probably not, seeing how Armistead Maupin's cousin Elizabeth Maupin is the local theatre critic, but I liked it, so I'm throwing it out there)
Harvey Milk House
None of those are terribly inspired, I'm afraid. I'll keep thinking . . .
You are all over where I want to be. I like Stonewall, Milk... I keep coming back to "House" but don't necessarily want that connotation. "House" tends to be indicative of rehab in the Central Florida area, anyway.
I think the name needs to convey instantly that this is an LGBT positive home. I don't want the word home though. Community conveys a little more of the sense... but it sounds a little too 60s... This could be the biggest challenge!!! LOL.
I look forward to other suggestions you may have O G-D Of The Theatre!![]()
I'm thinkin' I like something along the lines of Stonewall Gardens... triple entendre if you think about it.
Barbary Lane... I totally get it, but it's a bit piratey for those who wouldn't. Not too sure but it might be that specialized so that it doesn't send an immediate "in culture" message? Not sure about that, but that's what my first thought was.
Kind of like using "Coral Dawn Manor" you know?
On second thought... that's kind of catchy too...![]()

how would you advertise for this, if you did not hire someone you knew? I would think you would open yourself to a host of issues if you limit it to only "family". I think you may miss out on someone who would be a perfect fit for your place by limiting yourself like that. plus it is kind of insulting to those of us who work in healthcare and treat everyone equally. It would be a gay centered ALF. For any third party involvement (doctor, ARNP, ect.) I would first look for "family" to be sure the culture was preserved. However, if I couldn't find a professional who is gay, then I would certainly open the concept up to anyone who was gay positive.
I like grey gardensThrowing in Grey Gardens......
I don't catch the "Coral Dawn" reference.![]()

I like grey gardens
there is a science fiction book "Daughters of the Coral Dawn", I think thats the name.
a bunch of women leave earth for their own planet or something like that.
I don't know if that is the reference but it came to mind
I appreciate what you are saying, but I'm committed to not only having an LGBT positive ALF, but supporting as much of the LGBT community with employment as possible.
I will use word of mouth once I'm ready to hire, and actually, I have several people in mind at this time. Since my wife and I make a concerted effort to support LGBT business, it's not something new to us.
I'm sure my position will be interpreted as biased, and I'm fine with that. If I need a chef, and one of the professionals I know aren't available then I'll go with the open market.
There are several credible studies that show gay positive health care is most effective (particularly mental health care, and other support therapies) when delivered by a member of the LGBT community.
This isn't the place for the discussion, but it really does matter that one be a member of a given group for certain things. We'll save that for another discussion in another place, eh?
The point of this thread was to gauge the opinion of the posters to this board, and to get some suggestions for names.
Rob, it's a reference to a lesbian fiction (KV Forrest) book, well loved and well known among some circles. The reason I used it here was to point up the limited sphere of reference...
I get what you are striving for.
but in a way you are doing exactly what you don't want the heterosexual community to do to you.
but I do understand what you want to do.
and I will leave it at that![]()
PghLybrt, community or family is a good idea. Community right now can cause a bit of confusion because when you get into public funding for payment there are "community" designations that mean something other than the ALF. I don't like the "facility" part of the ALF, and there is talk about moving the name to Adult Living Community, so that might help (it won't address the potential for red tape confusion though).
Family could really, really work though... have to think about that one.
Stonewall Family Community... hmmmm...
How about: Stonewall Landing Community Commons Family Garden House!![]()
Eh, Inn makes it sound like a B&B.
